While most sci-fi fans are over the moon about "Star Trek Into Darkness" and the whole J.J. Abrams reboot, you may be surprised to learn that there are still quite a few "Star Trek" traditionalists who decry the new films as a monstrous blasphemy. A self-professed "Star Wars" fan turning "Star Trek" into a shoot first and ask questions later action franchise? No way.

And that got us wondering: Which is actually better, the new "Star Trek" or the old "Star Trek"?

Of course, the two versions of Gene Roddenberry's beloved creation are very different in tone and story, so it's a little like comparing apples to tribbles. But one thing they do share is the same characters. So in order to decide which version of "Star Trek" holds the edge, we've decided to match up the old and new versions, actor against actor, mano-a-mano.

Let the battle commence.

Nyota Uhura: Nichelle Nichols vs. Zoe Saldana

Nichelle Nichols had a lot going for her in the original "Star Trek" series. A true television pioneer, her Uhura was one of the few — if not the only — positive representations of African-American women on TV in the '60s. Thanks to the times Nichols helped change, though, Zoe Saldana's version of Uhura simply has more opportunities to kick butt and take names. She's not just the mysterious beauty on the telephone; she's a take-charge force in her own right.

Hikaru Sulu: George Takei vs. John Cho

We love what "Harold and Kumar" star John Cho did with the role of ship's helmsman Hikaru Sulu in 2009's "Star Trek," especially the awesome action sequence where he and Kirk battled evil minions atop a big ... space thing. But while the shout-out to the original Sulu's love of fencing was cool, it wasn't as cool as, you know, the original Sulu's love of shirtless fencing. And as anyone who is on Facebook knows, nobody delivers their lines with quite the same verve as George Takei. The man is a true original.

Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott: James Doohan vs. Simon Pegg

"She canna take much more, Cap'n!!" Look, we love James Doohan's Scotty as much as anyone, what with his deadpan earnestness that you just knew was hiding some major inner snark. But in these modern times, we like to see that snark get unleashed from time to time, which is why we just have to give the edge to Simon Pegg. Sure, the broader comedy may not sit well with purists, but for the rest of us, we'll take Pegg wherever we can get it. And these days, we get it from the inside of a starship.

Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: DeForest Kelley vs. Karl Urban

Maybe the most underrated member of the original ensemble, DeForest Kelley actually had a long and successful career in westerns before joining the cast of "Star Trek." And while the rest of the cast was doing their Peace Corps in Space thing, Kelley's cynical Dr. Leonard McCoy was keeping things grounded with old-fashioned pessimism. Karl Urban is excellent in the new films, but he's essentially doing a really good DeForest Kelley impersonation ... which means that in this competition, he's dead, Jim.

Pavel Chekov: Walter Koenig vs. Anton Yelchin

This fact may be a bit lost in time now, but Ensign Pavel Chekov wasn't even in the first season of "Star Trek." Instead, Walter Koenig joined the crew in Season Two in order to give the kids a bit of youthful eye candy. So while he had his moments in subsequent episodes and movies, Chekov wasn't exactly the most important member of the Enterprise contingent; still, just standing around the bridge gave Koenig more to do than Anton Yelchin in the 2009 reboot. Seriously, Yelchin got like two lines of dialogue. Of all the battles in this throwdown, this is the most one-sided, mainly because Yelchin just never got a chance to shine.

Our Pick: By default, it's Walter Koenig (Old "Trek")

Khan: Ricardo Montalban vs. Benedict Cumberbatch

Ricardo Montalban is, of course, a worldwide icon. And he cemented his legacy with the all-time classic film, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," where he seemed to be sporting a set of fake pecs made out of pure Corinthian leather. Still, Benedict Cumberbatch can bring the intensity like few actors of this or any other generation; seriously, the guy looks dangerously insane every time he opens his eyes. He may not have the suave charisma of Montalban — hey, who does? — but when it comes to exuding menace, Cumberbatch has few peers.

Spock: Leonard Nimoy vs. Zachary Quinto

What's cool here is that these two have become good friends in real life. Have you guys seen that cool Audi commercial where they go head to head? They are so adorkable together! We're really tempted to call this one a draw, except, well, there's a reason Nimoy ended up winning in the commercial. Because he's awesome, that's why. And we have a feeling that Quinto would be more than happy to concede the title of Top Spock to Nimoy for as long as Nimoy wants it.

Our Pick: Leonard Nimoy (Old "Trek")

James T. Kirk: William Shatner vs. Chris Pine

This is probably the toughest to judge of all the match-ups. On the one hand, William Shatner is a living legend, having brought us not just Kirk but also T.J. Hooker, the Priceline Negotiator and a surprisingly nuanced singing career. Plus, have you ever seen the 1966 horror movie "Incubus"? It's entirely in Esperanto! But this isn't about how awesome Shatner is, it's about how cool James T. Kirk is, and we have to say that Chris Pine has taken a character who had slipped a little bit into caricature over the years and made him fresh and vital again. Honestly, we just can't pick a favorite. They are both great.

Our Pick: Tie! Yes, we copped out.

Final Score

The classic "Star Trek" crew edges out the new "Star Trek" crew by a score of 4-3-1. But the new "Trek" could easily reverse that result if they find something for Anton Yelchin's Chekov to do. In other words, this game may be over but the rivalry is just getting underway.

Is that Zachary Quinto, the Chief Science Officer of "Star Trek Into Darkness," running from the horror of "Aftershock"? Ah, no, at second glance, that's actually Quinto's doppelganger, Eli Roth, the man who gave us "Cabin Fever" and shot Hitler full o' holes in "Inglourious Basterds."

Anyway, with "Aftershock" and the new "Trek" being released back-to-back, we figured this was the perfect time to match up our favorite Hollywood doubles as they compete for roles, attention and DNA. It's like looking into a mirror!

If you think your eyes are starting to play tricks on you, think of this like that Olsen Twins movie "It Takes Two," but without Steve Guttenberg.

Leighton Meester & Minka Kelly

Luscious "Gossip Girl" star Meester might be "Country Strong," but she more than met her match in Minka Kelly, who shone on "Friday Night Lights" as the lovely Lyla Garrity. The two of them actually got to face off, "Single White Female"-style, in 2011's horror thriller "The Roommate," when they entered freshman orientation together — but only one came out alive. Easy, ladies!

Logan Marshall-Green & Tom Hardy

After the one-three punch of "Bronson," "Inception" and "Warrior," Tom Hardy was the hunk du jour in Hollywood, but now a nearly identical upstart is nipping at his heels. After treading the boards Off- (and occasionally Off-Off-) Broadway, relative newcomer (and NextFactor highlight) Logan Marshall-Green began wriggling his way to the big time last summer via Ridley Scott's "Prometheus." Of course, Hardy's Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" could probably throat-punch an alien to death with his eyes closed.

Carey Mulligan & Michelle Williams

It's all about the gorgeous swan-like necks. Carey and Michelle could not be more different as actors; the former has an old-school, boisterous lightness while the latter, in both real life and on film, is introspective, reserved, even ethereal. We almost did a double-take in 2011 when Mulligan was seen on screen with Williams' "Blue Valentine" sweetheart Ryan Gosling in "Drive."

Javier Bardem & Jeffrey Dean Morgan

In their signature roles as Anton Chigurh in "No Country For Old Men" and The Comedian in "Watchmen," respectively, Bardem and Morgan pull off striking, bull-in-a-china-shop characters whose moral compasses have long since been flushed down the toilet. Oddly, strewn across their paths of destruction we find very real human fragments to latch onto ... and that's not on the page, it's in the performances. Still, we wouldn't want to run into either of these tough customers in a dark alley.

These doppelgangers have yet to cross paths on screen, but when they do, it's sure to be electric. Olyphant first captured our attention as the lead in HBO's foulmouthed fan-favorite "Deadwood," then graduated to playing men of dubious intent in flicks like "Live Free or Die Hard." Duhamel is more the average all-American Joe type, playing a soldier for the "Transformers" trilogy and romantic leads in fluff like "Safe Haven." Does the U.S. Marshal on "Justified" need a half-brother?

Palmer has nearly nabbed roles in "Justice League," "Mad Max" and the "Spider-Man" movies, but this talented blonde will forever be in the shadow of her movie duplicate, Kristen Stewart. Despite different hair, they share a shocking resemblance. Palmer may be catching up to Stewart, though, as she recently starred as a human who swoons over a member of the undead (a zombie this time, in "Warm Bodies").

When you first saw "Spanglish" (if you did at all), you might have been wondering how they decided to pair Penélope Cruz with Adam Sandler, of all people. When did nerds stop seeking revenge on their jock oppressors and start warring amongst each other? Okay, so technically these two haven't directly engaged in combat, verbal or Thunderdome-style ... but there are still many who believe that when it comes to Cera & Eisenberg, two men enter, one man leaves. Despite the current Jesse-positive climate thanks to that little "The Social Network" movie and the upcoming "Now You See Me," these are both super-young dudes with plenty of awkwardness left to give.

Chris Hemsworth & Chris Pine

Playing father and son in 2009's "Star Trek" may have tipped these two Chrises off that they kinda sorta look alike. Hemsworth made his film debut playing James T. Kirk's ill-fated papa George for a scant few minutes, but it gave him the oomph he needed to impress the Marvel brass to pin him as The God of Freakin' Thunder, "Thor." Pine had to delicately dance around the iconic Shatner characterizations to make the Starship Enterprise his own, but he did, and has been unstoppable ever since.

Pine's pointy-eared shipmate Spock was almost always a lock for Quinto, whom fans immediately pegged as a dead-on lookalike for Leonard Nimoy after he made his name on "Heroes." But Zachary also resembles our favorite bloodthirsty writer-director Eli Roth. When he's not hanging out in cabins or hostels, Roth occasionally moonlights on-screen for pals like Quentin Tarantino, for whom he relished machine-gunning Hitler in "Inglourious Basterds."

Zooey Deschanel & Katy Perry

Now that Katy Perry is acting (she played super-hot Smurfette in "The Smurfs") and divorced from a famous husband, there may literally be nothing that separates her from her big-eyed mirror-image, Zooey Deschanel. Though Perry may be the bigger musical superstar for now, the swoon-worthy "New Girl" has been known to belt it out when she performs as one-half of She & Him, so watch out, Katy.

Alan Cumming & Paul Reubens

And speaking of Smurfs, we finally found two fellas who have come to terms with their lookalike status by agreeing to be in the same movie. In "The Smurfs" Reubens played the gag-gifting Jokey Smurf, while Cumming portrayed the newest character, Gutsy Smurf. Although these were voice-only roles, it was only a matter of time before these two get together for realsies (like they did at the "Pee-Wee" premiere on Broadway). Maybe if the show reopens, Cumming could appear as the depressive younger brother, WeePee Herman, who cries a lot?

"The worst thing is that Zach likes to play these ridiculous vocabulary games," Pine revealed, "which he will tell everybody he wins, which is such a crock of bullsh--."

"I think we both have a healthy sense of competition, which infuses our dynamic a little bit with an edge of humor and spontaneity," says Quinto, kind of proving Pine's point by using a phrase like "infuses our dynamic a little bit."

[From MTV News] In our exclusive 30-minute interview with the cast of "Star Trek Into Darkness" and director J.J. Abrams, the conversation touched on just about everything under the stars. From Spock's eyebrows to laughing on set, the topics were as vast as the travels of the USS Enterprise.

While it's hard to cover all of the topics touched on during "MTV First: Star Trek Into Darkness" without giving a blow-by-blow, these five takeaways should give you a feel for what went on when MTV News' Josh Horowitz sat down with Abrams and the cast.

1. A laughing J.J. is a good thing.

Even on big adventure movies like "Star Trek Into Darkness," things can get a little silly from time to time on the set, and usually that's okay. Abrams said that he's usually chief among the slap-happy when things break down during filming, but one take on the 2009 "Star Trek" was too much for him. "It was the one time that we had literally been working forever, and it was the last night on the bridge," Abrams said. "Everyone started cracking up, and it was unacceptable."

The Force is definitely with these two ... Oh wait, wrong space franchise. Right. So, "greetings."

Kidding, kids. Don't go gettin' those tighty-whiteys in a wad, 'cause there's some fun to be had here.

It was absolutely bound to happen that Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Spock Prime (Leonard Nimoy) would come to a battle of wits, with "Star Trek Into Darkness" offering up an on-screen reunion of the two big-eared human-Vulcan hybrids, and now it has.

In this new commercial for Audi of America — which is totes better than their prom-themed Super Bowl spot — Spock Senior and his protege, so to speak, have a little race to see who'll pay for lunch at the golf club, because of course Spock would want to play golf with himself. (???) Since Spock Junior is equipped with a slick and quick little ride while the old man's sporting an apparently scoff-worthy Mercedes, it's no challenge at all.

But there's a reason the O.G. wins all the chess games. He's got the know-how to take down his opponent by pulling one of these signature maneuvers right quick.

Check, you said? How about a checkmate, then. Bam!

Little Spockito never saw it coming, though he probably should've.

At any rate, Nimoy also earned some additional geek cred in the video by letting his Tolkien freak flag fly as he rattled off lyrics to some Bilbo Baggins tribute tune. Ah, fandemonium. It truly touches us all.

And now the only matter left to resolve with these two is who pulls off the big line better.

We'll leave that conundrum for another day.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" hits theaters next weekend.

How pumped are you for "Star Trek Into Darkness"? You just can't wait until May 17 to see it on the big screen; you'll be the first in line! You've seen all the trailers and followed all the news, but how would you like to see a little sumpin' sumpin' right now?

Yep, for some reason the team behind "Star Trek Into Darkness" has released a whole nearly eight-minute reel of B-roll, a.k.a. behind-the-scenes stuff that barely even counts as behind the scenes. J.J. Abrams saying that something we don't get to see was great! Chris Pine (that's Captain Fine Kirk to you) sitting contemplatively in a chair while a camera slowly wheels around him! A shot of a camera moving! Meta. 

Still, it's kinda cool. Like you know those screen savers with the fish tanks? Hypnotic! You never know what's going to happen next! And yet nothing ever really happens. This is like that, except the fish are all wearing Starfleet uniforms and have all already gotten to see a movie that you can't even touch for weeks.

For your pleasure and enjoyment, we've compiled a few personal highlights from this Fishbowl Enterprise, but we highly recommend watching the whole thing as sort of a zen exercise in fandom.

Look, the beauty of the "Star Trek" franchise is how unabashedly geeky Trekkies can be. Those nerds just don't give a flying eff what anyone outside the Starship Enterprise has to say about them, so there's a ton of fun to be had with it.

Here in this "Star Trek Into Darkness" junket interview with J.J. Abrams and his cast — Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Alice Eve — quirky YouTuber Daniele Rizzo posed as  Spocko, a Vulcan-slinging weirdo with no qualms about asking tough questions like who this John Harrison baddie is and how the "crew" feels about the term "V.I.L.F."

Because...sure.

And while Captain J.J. looked pretty peeved about being demoted to craft services, the thespians among the crew handled the wannabe Vulcan's pressure pretty well.

Alice Eve and Karl Urban got cool points right away for offering up proper "greetings" at the outset, and Chris Pine earned some space cred too by throwing a "live long and prosper" into the mix. Zach Quinto and Zoe Saldana, meanwhile, did well to muscle through all the deadpanning and answer the odd inquiries with (mostly) straight faces.

That said, it's best to just live long and...watch the video.

[From MTV News] On April 14, the MTV Movie Awards will feel the thunder from Down Under as "Pitch Perfect" actress Rebel Wilson stars as host of this year's celebration of all things cinematical. But, as we've learned from Wilson's hilarious car-chase promos with "Magic Mike" hunk Channing Tatum, she could always use a little back-up (or feel up, as the case may be). And now she's getting it—the back-up part, at least—with a slew of presenters announced today.

Many of the year's most anticipated films will be represented by multiple cast members. There's Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto from "Star Trek Into Darkness," Seth Rogen and Danny McBride from "This Is the End," and Chris Rock and Adam Sandler from "Grown Ups 2."

Additionally, Steve Carell, Zac Efron, Melissa McCarthy, Amanda Seyfried and Kerry Washington will also hand out Golden Popcorns to winners in categories including Best Shirtless Moments, Best Fight, Best Kiss and Best Musical Moment.

Usually when a new international trailer hits the interwebs, fans carefully pour over it to parse out every small bit of new footage. And generally speaking, while there are usually a couple new scenes here and there to whet your appetite, the meat of the piece remains the same. For instance, if the clip is intended for British audiences, it's basically the regular trailer with maybe an extra five seconds of Big Ben or something. That sort of thing.

Well, J.J. Abrams has just said to hell with that, because Apple's new international trailer for "Star Trek Into Darkness" is comprised almost entirely of footage we've never seen before — and it's totally amazeballs.

Of course, there is still a bit of regional targeting going on here. But in this case that takes simply means that most of the trailer focuses on the sinister new mystery villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who may just be a cult star here in America, but is a bona fide big deal over in Britain thanks to his BBC series "Sherlock."

And that means we get some real juicy bits where Cumberbatch's ticked off double agent terrorist guy (or... whatever...) blows up ton of stuff in London, smacks the Federation around and intones all sorts of extremely threatening things while brooding intensely. He's kind of like Loki only without the cool hat.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" hits theaters in America on May 17, a day after it opens in Britain on May 16. But hey, we don't mind the wait. It just gives us even more time to study this cool new trailer. Now that's international cooperation at its finest.

Billy Eichner hosts "Billy on the Street," a gem of a television program on FunnyOrDie.com and on the Fuse Network every Friday.   He recently hosted Star Trek's Zachary Quinto for a delightful game called "It's Spock! Do You Care?," in which Eichner runs around Manhattan with Quinto and asks unsuspecting Manhattanites if they care that the guy who plays Spock is right next to them.

And though we at NextMovie might trip over ourselves to wax philosophical with the Star Trek star, it turns out most New Yorkers wouldn't, necessarily, with a few exceptions. In fact, most of the people in this video are just horrified.

That's a shame, because Quinto and others will be starring in "Star Trek: Into Darkness" in May and we'd imagine he has a lot to say about it. We care, Zach. WE CARE!

Now, this is what we're talkin' about. Following up on that ominous little one-minute teaser from two weeks ago, Paramount Pictures has finally unleashed a full-length theatrical trailer for its long awaited "Star Trek" reboot sequel "Star Trek Into Darkness."

While the first promo warned of the "illusion" of safety and peace on earth - with Benedict Cumberbatch introduced as the breathy foe - the villainy gets a little more personal in the two-minute trailer.

Looks like good ole' Captain Kirk (Chris Pine)'s gotta pay the piper for all that flare and hubris he's been toting around outer space since movie one.

He's warned, "There's greatness in you, but there's not an ounce of humility. You think that you can't make mistakes, but there's going to come a moment when you realize you're wrong about that. And you're going to get yourself and everyone under your command killed."

As the explosions, screams, gunshots and watery shipwrecks ensue, the toll is clearly being taken. The fact that his pals Spock (Zachary Quinto), Nyota (Zoe Saldana), Bones (Karl Urban) and Dr. Carol (Alice Eve) are so blimey distraught looking doesn't help matters for Kirk, either.

"You think you're safe. You are not," the Batch warns. Oooooh, this is gonna be good.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" opens May 17, 2013.

Just because "Star Trek Into Darkness" won't hit theaters until May 2013—and just because he doesn't have permission from either the director (J.J. Abrams) or the studio (Paramount)—doesn't mean Zachary Quinto can't show a little preview of the upcoming film on Conan O'Brien… right? Because that's exactly what the thespian did. Sorta.

During a sit-down with the late night host, the tall, dark and handsome star said he had "a lot of respect" for Conan and his audience, and as such, he wanted to bring something that was more than the paltry three frames of the film that Abrams had revealed the last time he was on the funny man's couch. (And why shouldn't he?) Claiming to not have told J.J. or Paramount, Quinto double-checked that Conan had a legal department (which Conan assured him, he does) before unveiling the clip.

We have to admit, we were skeptical at first, but the teaser did not disappoint. In fact, it's pretty awesome. We're 99% sure that this preview isn't really from the hotly anticipated movie, but don't take our word for it. With filming finally completed on the much anticipated and long delayed sequel to the 2009 megahit "Star Trek," fans have been eagerly awaiting the first footage from J.J. Abrams and company. And last night, Abrams delivered just that during an appearance on "Conan."

But the results may not be quite what you were expecting.

That's because the entire clip is a grand total of three frames long. To put it in perspective, most movies shoot at a rate of 24 frames per second, meaning this "Star Trek Into Darkness" tease is a grand total of one eighth of a second long. Hmm.

"Paramount is really unhappy with me at the idea of bringing anything," Abrams explained to host Conan O'Brien. "I told them, 'I really wanted to do it.' And they said, 'It's got to be really short.' 'OK, I can bring one.' 'It can't be longer than three frames.'"

Considering it's been over three years since "Star Trek" hit theaters, that adds up to just one frame per year. But at least they are somewhat cool frames, as they feature Zachary Quinto's Spock standing in the heart of an active volcano.

Winners were announced at a special live ceremony in Los Angeles last night, and the Jury Prize went to "Fishing Without Nets" by director Cutter Hodiern, which was cited "for its strong technique, stunning cinematography and for taking us on an eye opening journey to a world rarely depicted on film."

Sponsored by The Wrap, in conjunction with Film.com, NextMovie.com and MTV, The ShortList's Jury Prize was selected by a panel of industry experts which included film and television star Zachary Quinto and the Sundance Institute's Feature Film Program Founding Director, Michelle Satter.

Also going home a winner on the evening was director Chirstopher Kezelos, whose short film "The Maker" won the Audience Prize, which was voted on by over 11,000 online participants.

In addition to the two winners, a Special Mention was given to directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman for their documentary "A Brief History of John Baldessari" in recognition of "its irreverent voice and ability to so fully capture the nature of its eccentric provocateur subject in such a compact form."

The ceremony, which was held at the Sony lot last evening, was the culmination of an interactive online experience that ran online and through mobile devises from August 20 through September 4. "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" star Mary Elizabeth Winstead was on hand to present the Jury Prize, while "Catfish" lead Nev Schulman handed out the Audience Prize.

Rise and shine, young Hollywood — it's time grab a bite to eat with the President of the United States.

Many young actors had a different kind of early call on Thursday morning: a private breakfast with President Barack Obama, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

President Obama met privately at the Beverly Hilton Hotel with 25 of Hollywood's hottest young stars, urging them to involve themselves in his reelection campaign. The meeting was part of Obama's "Young America Effort," an initiative to build support among younger voters.

The attendees who shared the most important meal of the day with the President of the United States included Jeremy Renner, Dianna Agron, Zachary Quinto, Ben McKenzie, Jessica Alba, Bryan Greenberg, Adam Rodriguez, Zach Braff, Brandon Routh, Sarah Pantera, Ian Somerhalder, Jared Leto, Kal Penn and Sophia Bush.

The breakfast marked the end of Obama's two-day fundraising trip to Los Angeles. After the meeting, several of the guests tweeted their reactions:

Director Karyn Kusama's ready to get the party started.

The "Girlfight," "Æon Flux" and "Jennifer's Body" director's now pulled a cast together for her next thriller, "Invitation," which is expect to start production this summer.

According to Deadline, "Star Trek" star Zachary Quinto, Topher Grace, "The Big Bang Theory" star Johnny Galecki, and Luke Wilson have all signed on for the flick.

Wilson will star as a man who gets an invitation to his ex-wife's dinner party and quickly discovers she and her new pals are up to no good. Nope, this just isn't another "Dinner for Schmucks." This shindig's gonna be deadly.

No word yet on how production on "Invitation" impacts Kusama's other planned project for the year, "The Rut" with Chloe Moretz, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Ray Liotta. Filming on "The Rut" was expected to begin this year, with a 2013 release date anticipated.

Zachary Quinto's completed production on the first "Star Trek" sequel and a comedy film called "Dog Eat Dog," in addition to a reported season 2 return to FX's original series "American Horror Story."

Topher Grace has just finished "The Wedding," co-starring Robert DeNiro, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and Robin Williams. Johnny Galecki's still banging away at his TV show, and Luke Wilson will be seen next in December's "Straight A's."

You know those movies where people sit in a boardroom and just talk and talk and talk? An enclosed space full of motivated motormouths can sometimes be a trial to follow, even when its filled to the brim with world-class actors like Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto and Demi Moore as in last year's lauded Wall Street crisis indie "Margin Call."

The pressure-cooker drama took place over 36-hours at a powerhouse investment bank loosely based on Lehman Brothers and, in a crucial scene, a meeting is called with the top brass including CEO John Tuld (Irons). During the meeting Tuld reveals his risky plan to unload the company's toxic assets, but in "Margin Call - Boardroom Scene Awkward Recut" that's not so much the case.

The new YouTube video by Worm In Your Apple takes the talky confrontation and turns it into the most tense prolonged silence in movie history. Stripped entirely of its dialogue, the 5-minute scene becomes a hodgepdoge of glances, throat clearings, and semi-audible cell phone rings. It only gets funnier as it goes on, so strap in and watch as no one dares disturb the sound of silence. (Apologies to Simon & Garfunkel.)

The 21st Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards earlier this week honored some of the year's best independent films at Cipriani Wall Street … and was the place to be to meet the stars.

I made my way to the restaurant shortly after arrivals had ended and the ceremony had begun in hopes that the crowd would have dissipated and I'd be able to catch the celebrities as they left the big event. Unfortunately, I was wrong. After the crowd continued to grow, security put up some barricades, of which I'm actually a fan. Even though they can be over-crowded and make your pictures a little awkward, they create a safer environment for the stars to greet the fans, and that only encourages them to do so.

Lake Bell, Penn Badgley and Jennifer Carpenter were among those to leave on the early side. Then, during a lull, I noticed some hustle and bustle between some of the event staff and the security. I thought it might be for the evening's biggest star, Charlize Theron, and I was right! Unfortunately, they somehow managed to sneak her out the back door completely unnoticed. Bummer.

Peter Facinelli was my first picture of the night. He is always very sweet and very gracious with his fans, and last night was no exception. We didn't get to chat much as he was on his way to the after party. As he walked away, he promised people on the other side of the street that he'd pose with them as well – so nice!

Zachary Quinto also stopped for pictures. I couldn't believe how tall he was. I mean he is really, really tall! Like Peter Facinelli, he was also in a rush to get to the after party but not before accepting a ton of compliments about his short stint on the new show, "American Horror Story." I must have been the only "Star Trek" nerd in the crowd.

Jason Reitman snuck out the front followed by Gary Oldman, who showed off his award on the way out while saying goodnight to everyone. Elizabeth Olsen and her entourage made a mad dash to her car from the entrance, but she looked stunning in her gown. Shailene Woodley kept the departures rolling without even waiting for her car to come and get her and instead walked down the block to find it herself.

Last but not least of the evening was Hugh Dancy.

When he first came outside, no car was waiting for him, so he told me he would be back out in just a minute and disappeared inside. A few minutes later, he kept his promise and made his way over to me for quick picture. I congratulated him on the success of "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and he seemed very appreciative. We wished each other a good night and he was off.

And, needless to say, it was indeed a great night.

"Star Trek" and "Heroes" star Zachary Quinto dropped a bomb on entertainment news this weekend -- not with a bang, but a whimper.  While doing press for his upcoming Wall Street thriller "Margin Call," Quinto addressed his recent stage role in "Angels in America," saying, "As a gay man, it made me feel like there's still so much work to be done, and there's still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed."

The actor later made a statement on his own web site, explaining the sudden revelation: "I ... made an It Gets Better video last year in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time.  But in light of Jamey [Rodemeyer's] death, it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough."

We spoke to Quinto this afternoon and asked about his choice to announce his orientation quietly.

"I didn't tell anybody I was going to do it," Quinto told us exclusively. "I did it on my own terms, in my own time, in my own words, and that is absolutely the type of relationship I want to have to that information.  I did it because I recognized the way that it helped people, I did it because it was my time to do it, and yeah, it was definitely a deliberate choice to do it in that way."

He added, "It was all very thought-out, nothing was hasty."

Though Quinto's decision to come out was itself a reaction to homophobia, he has no concerns that his sexuality will negatively impact his career. "Absolutely not.  I feel like that whole issue needs to be looked at and addressed -- and the only way it's going to be looked at and addressed is if people are willing to stand up and defy expectation and that's certainly what I'm interested in doing, and willing to do and capable of doing.  So that's my intention."

Quinto says he had no idea what to expect in terms of the impact the revelation would have. "But I was simply overwhelmed, and remain overwhelmed by the worldwide and unanimous outpouring of support and gratitude and encouragement that I've received.  It's been incredibly humbling, but it also is incredibly empowering, and it shows me on a lot of levels that change is possible, and you know, within ourselves is where it has to start."

"That was a really encouraging part of the experience so far for me, as well."

Screenwriter Sebastián Gutiérrez ("Snakes on a Plane," "The Eye") has begun something of a little cottage industry making low-budge flicks starring a lot of he and girlfriend Carla Gugino's famous Hollywood pals, generally the buxomer the better.

The first of these, "Women in Trouble," debuted in 2009 while the sequel, "Electra Luxx," will be released on March 11th, coincidentally the same day Gutiérrez will drop another ensemble film titled "Girl Walks Into A Bar."

The twist? The new film is free. As in "free free."

Shot in 11 days on the hip new Canon 7D HD camera, Gutiérrez claims this is the first major film with bonafide stars (and, let's be honest, former stars) made exclusively for YouTube distribution. "We are excited to break the rules of feature films by letting people watch our movie for free online," says Gutiérrez.

"Girl" is a Robert Altman-esque sprawling piece of interlocking stories stretched out over 10 different LA bars, strip joints, and naked ping pong clubs. How is Susan Sarandon not in this? Our favorite Vulcan Zacharay Quinto takes the lead as a dentist who hires an assassin to kill his wife, which sets off a chain of bizarre events.

Besides Gugino, the movie features her fellow "Sin City" alum Josh Hartnett, Rosario Dawson, and Alexis Bledel, all of them looking like they're having a blast. Also look out for Danny DeVito, "Entourage" cutie Emmanuelle Chriqui and, as if it weren't Tarantino-y enough already, Robert Forester ("Jackie Brown"). Grant-Lee Phillips of '90s alt-rock staples Grant Lee Buffalo will provide the music all the lovely ladies will be gyrating to.

According to The Playlist, "Girl Walks Into A Bar" will also showcase at SXSW later in March, but you can get your first taste of this titillating treat with the trailer below… enjoy!
