Back in the 1980s, Harrison Ford became an international superstar by headlining two of the biggest franchises of all time, "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones." And in the '90s, it was Samuel L. Jackson who became a ubiquitous presence in just about every major blockbuster, from "Pulp Fiction" to "Die Hard with a Vengeance." So which of today's stars can boast a similar resume?

Would you believe Bill Nighy?

Yes, it's hard to believe, but the respected and respectable 63-year-old British thespian has somehow become one of the hippest, coolest and most bankable stars in Hollywood. Case in point: He's about to appear in the upcoming fantasy epic "Jack the Giant Slayer." Unlike Ford and Jackson, however, he's managed to keep his ascendance on the down low, to the point where you may not even be aware that he is in literally every movie you like.

Don't believe us? Then check out some of these clips — and see why Bill Nighy has become the most unexpected superstar in film.

"Pirates of the Caribbean:" The franchise that really put Nighy on the pop culture map, "Pirates of the Caribbean" may be best known for the leading trio of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, but it's safe to say that some of the most memorable moments actually came courtesy of Nighy as the villainous Davy Jones. Take a look at this rare clip showing just how they added all those creepy face tentacles:

"Harry Potter:" of course, any hardcore Potter fan worth their salt knows that Nighy played the part of doomed Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour, who pops up in the seventh film to lend a helping hand (well... sort of...) to Harry and company. Here's one of his most iconic scenes, as the embattled Minister attempts to calm the magic world in the wake of Lord Voldemort's latest attacks:

"Shaun of the Dead:" One of the rare efforts where Nighy isn't buried under makeup or hidden behind animation, in "Shaun of the Dead" Nighy plays Simon Pegg's curmudgeonly step father Philip. The two don't see eye to eye until Philip's last few moments of life, where they finally have a touching heart to heart. And then, since "Shaun of the Dead" is a zombie movie, this happens:

"Love Actually:" This cult classic 2003 romcom nominally stars Hugh Grant as the Prime Minister of Great Britain. Yeah, whatever. The real star, of course, is Nighy, who steals the show right from the opening scene as an aging rock star selling his soul to get one last big hit. Here's the opening scene, complete with Nighy dropping some very choice and ungentlemanly words. We love it:

"Flushed Away:" Perhaps impressed by Nighy's ability to inhabit a character completely covered in octopus goo, DreamWorks hired Nighy to voice the character of the thuggish mouse Whitey in the 2006 animated hit "Flushed Away." Once again, Nighy is more than up to the task, as you can see in the trailer for the film:

"Underworld:" Reviews for the goth vampire series "Underworld" pretty much follow a simple arc: The films that prominently feature Nighy get decent reviews and the ones that marginalize Nighy get crappy reviews. Much as we love Kate Beckinsale's slinky killer Selene, we have to say that Nighy's complex and creepy vampire lord Viktor is out favorite. Here he is explaining why the fact that he murdered Selene's entire family was basically just an early Christmas present:

"Rango:" In 2011's "Rango," Nighy re-teamed with "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski and co-star Johnny Depp for an old fashioned Western that happens to feature talking lizards. And the chemistry between Depp and Nighy was a great as ever, as the two once again went head to head. Here are some of the top moments featuring his sinister serpent, Rattlesnake Jake:

"Wrath of the Titans:" Okay, so 2010's "Clash of the Titans" was an epic stinkbomb. But if you haven't checke dout last year's sequel, "Wrath of the Titans," you might be surprised to hear that it's not all that bad. Why? Well, most of the credit goes, naturally, to Nighy, who plays the deranged god Hephaestus with a twinkle in his eye. Yes, that's right: Nighy is so amazing he even managed to save this horrible franchise:

Death. Taxes. Keith Richards. Attractive girls being inexplicably interested in Wilmer Valderrama. And characters with vaguely British accents in fantasy or historical fiction movies.

We are brought up with the understanding that these things are the lone certainties in life. Today, we'd like to closely examine that last guarantee. Presenting 10 fantasy movies featuring characters with vaguely British accents who do not need to have British accents.

(Editor's Note: Yes, we know Ancient Greece and Rome were very real places, but "Gladiator" and "300" are hardly non-fiction accounts of them. So... humor us.)

1. 'The Lord of the Rings' Franchise (2001 - Present)

This is the most egregious offender of the bunch, if only for sheer mass. "The Return of the King" alone controversially broke the Guinness record for movie length by 418 hours and 29 minutes. But while many cite original novel writer J.R.R. Tolkien's influence as the reason for the Britishness of the film series, no one can explain the exponential degrees to which the actors spike the proverbial British football (soccer ball?) in the viewer's face. See for yourself at the :47 second mark of "The Hobbit" trailer below. ("I'M GEW-ING, ON AN AD-VEN-SHAAHHHH!")

2. 'Planet of the Apes' (1968)

The original "Planet of the Apes" memorably won its lone Oscar for "Movie Most Obviously Trying To Use the British Accent as a Representation of Sinisterness," and deservedly so. Charlton Heston (American accent) spends most of the film looking for his misplaced shirt and asking ladies which way the beach is, while his inexplicably British ape overlords lecture him about manners and whatnot. The scene at the 1:01 mark of following trailer explains the dynamic quite nicely.

3. 'Gladiator' (2001)

Everyone in the Roman Empire spoke Latin, so in a sense, "Gladiator" director Ridley Scott had carte blanche regarding the way his characters spoke, especially since it's the 21st century and exactly nine people on Earth can speak Latin. Still, we couldn't help but notice California native Joaquin Phoenix's out-of-nowhere British accent as the conniving Commodus. Then again, we admit it would have sounded weird if the line was, "How dare you show your back to me, bro?"

4. 'Underworld' Franchise (2003 - 2012)

The "Underworld" movies take place in Budapest, Hungary, in an alternate universe where vampires and werewolves have been at war for a thousand years, exactly nothing of which has anything to do with Great Britain or its dialects. Yet director Len Wiseman — native of San Francisco — has all of his characters fit with British accents. Listen, we're not saying Wiseman has to cast Jeff Foxworthy as Kate Beckinsale's love interest for future movies or anything... actually, yes. Yes, we are.

5. '300'

To be fair to Gerard Butler, he's pretty much just talking in his own voice throughout this movie, and that's to be expected. We can't imagine "acting" was any more important than "working out heavily" or "finding the proper-fitting red briefs" in preparation for his role. But when he boots that helpless Persian into the random hole to nothing that the Spartans (of Ancient Greece, of course) have in the middle of their city for some reason, we can't help but hear, "Madness? THIS. IS. SCOTLAND!"

6. 'Clash of the Titans' & 'Wrath of the Titans' (2010 & 2012)

It's almost as if the dialogue in "Clash of the Titans" was intentionally written in such a way that it can't possibly be said with anything other than British accents. Witness some of the lines from the trailer, posted below: Can you hear George Clooney (for example) saying, "It is time, for the mortals, to pay" in a George Clooney voice and take it seriously? It's tough, right? You would think he was saying it facetiously in a half-assed "Ocean's 11" sequel.

7. 'The Chronicles of Narnia' Franchise (2005 - 2010)

This one's a bit of a lay-up. Sure, the kids are from the U.K., but it's not like Narnia is a majestic, whimsical section of Liverpool or something. And as if trying to distinguish itself from its peers, the "Narnia" series gets serious bonus points for pioneering the notion of animals having British accents, too, even if Liam Neeson was a poor casting choice for the talking lion (only because his voice is so distinctive that it overrides everything; you go from, "Whoa, what a badass lion!" to "Oh, that's Liam Neeson" almost instantly.)

8. 'Street Fighter'

Did you have a feeling we were going to add Puerto Rico-native Raul Julia's random British accent as M. Bison to this list? Thought so.

9. 'Season of the Witch'

"Season of the Witch" throws a hilarious Nicolas Cage curveball at us by being EXACTLY the prototype for this list, except that Cage and co-star Ron Perlman choose to speak in their own voices for the duration of the movie. So we have all of these gothic characters speaking in loooonnngg drawwwnnn outttt Engliissshhhh sentences, and then Cage replying with the same voice he uses to place a second order of fish tacos at a truck in Venice. Simply superb.

10. 'Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country'

This may or may not have made the list strictly for the unreal clip below. Even the Klingons are randomly and inexplicably British! CRY HAVOC!

This week: "The Artist" -- the French silent movie that won five Oscars this year, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Costume Design and Best Original Score -- arrives on DVD and Blu-ray at last.

Also new this week are Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the hilarious action comedy "21 Jump Street," Sam Worthington going Greek again in "Wrath of the Titans," the Snow White interpretation "Mirror Mirror," and an anniversary Blu-ray edition of "Deliverance."

Box Office: $45 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 98% Fresh
Storyline: Set 1920s Hollywood, this silent romantic dramedy by director Michel Hazanavicius stars Jean Dujardin as George Valentin, a silent-movie star whose career is threatened by the arrival of sound. He sparks with an extra, Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), who is on the verge of getting her big break while George clings to his hope that "talkies" are just a passing fad.
Extras! Lovers of Old Hollywood will want to watch "Hollywood as a Character: The Locations of 'The Artist,'" which highlights the places used in the film that have a personality all their own.
We Say: "The Artist" won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and will appeal to those susceptible to charms like a whimsical love story, a cute dog sidekick and nostalgia for romanticized bygone eras.

Rotten Tomatoes: 85% Fresh
Storyline: Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum star as two former classmates who meet again at police academy and go undercover as high school students to bust a drug ring. Based on the '80s TV series starring Johnny Depp.
Extras! There are 20 deleted scenes (about 30 minutes worth of footage) on the DVD and Blu-ray that are actually pretty funny.
We Say: Even if you scoffed at the possibility that this latest adaptation of a TV show could be any good, believe us when we say that the unlikely bromance between Hill and Tatum provides some surprisingly hilarious moments -- especially when the once-popular Tatum returns to school and is confused by new social cliques like hipsters.

Storyline: A decade after the events in "Clash of the Titans," Perseus (Sam Worthington), the demigod son of Zeus (Liam Neeson) who defeated the Kraken, lives a quieter life as a fisherman with his young son -- until he learns that Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Ares (Edgar Ramirez) have captured Zeus and intend to use his godly powers to release Kronos, the ferocious leader of the Titans, from his underworld prison.
Extras! The Blu-ray has two Maximum Movie Modes ("The Path of Men" and "The Path of Gods") that are unique picture-in-picture interactive features with storyboard comparisons and film focus points.
We Say: This chaotic and fiery adventure is a marked improvement over the original and features much better effects on the Blu-ray 3D version than the notoriously problematic "Clash of the Titans."

Storyline: Director Tarsem Singh's interpretation of the Snow White fairy tale stars Julia Roberts as Queen Gertrude, Lily Collins as Snow White and Armie Hammer as the prince who only has eyes for the fairest of them all, even as the queen schemes to marry him.
Extras! The Blu-ray edition contains an interactive storybook as well as the "I Believe I Can Dance" dance-along.
We Say: This sepia-hued set piece offers some magical eye candy, and Roberts can be fun to watch as a scenery-chewing, insecure woman of power. But the story adds nothing remarkable to the original Grimm fairy tale that has been retold countless times already.

Box Office: $46 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 94% Fresh
Storyline: In this classic 1972 thriller directed by John Boorman, a peaceful weekend canoe trip turns into a nightmarish fight for survival when four friends (Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty and Ronny Cox) encounter some violent rednecks.
Extras! This Blu-ray double dip comes packaged in a Digibook with color photos and a new retrospective with the four leads.
We Say: This harrowing man-vs.-nature tale still resonates because of the incredible performances by its leading men, whose characters confront what they are really made of when all of society's comforts are stripped away. The city boys-vs.-hillbillies aspect of it has been copied in countless lesser movies, but nothing compares to the raw intensity of this story based on James Dickey's novel.

"The Hunger Games" phenomenon continues to dominate the box office — and pop culture in general — as according to Hollywood.com the year's biggest film crushed the competition again, taking in $61.1 million over the weekend en route to a staggering 10-day total of $251 million.

New releases "Wrath of the Titans" and "Mirror Mirror" were expected to put up a challenge, but thanks to "The Hunger Games," neither movie stood a chance; "Wrath of the Titans" finished in second place with a $34.2 million debut, while "Mirror Mirror" earned a disappointing $19 million.

So just how high can "The Hunger Games" go before this is over? For the full box office report, including figures for returning favorites "21 Jump Street" and "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," head to Hollywood.com.

According to Zeus (or at least the version played by Liam Neeson), godhood is a bit of a bummer. You have to be responsible for all creation, immortality is depressing, and being worshipped is exhausting. Apparently, all gods really want is to be human.

Well, we’re not buying it. Nowhere in "Wrath of the Titans" do any gods offer to give up eternal youth, superpowers, the sprawling temple in the clouds or their unworldly good looks. Instead, they seem riddled with insecurity, determined to strike down any man, woman, or child who is too good looking. (Don’t have a good hair day around the gods. You might find yourself sacrificed to a Kraken.)

We’ll spend our weekend worshipping at "Wrath of the Titans," and the rest of our days admiring these 12 gorgeous immortals. Devotion has never been so easy.

First there was fighting and we had "Clash of the Titans." Now comes anger and we have "Wrath of the Titans." When next year's English requirements force the Hellenistic Gods to take Poetry 101 maybe we'll have "Plath of the Titans."

And I, for one, look forward to it. This franchise (yeah, it's a franchise now) isn't exactly top-shelf, but it serves a need – the need to see enormous, villainous computer-generated beasts wreak havoc on Mediterranean fishing villages. Hey, once you get hooked it's hard to kick.

I won't lie and tell you that "Wrath of the Titans" is replete with clever plot twists, sharp dialogue or, you know, good acting, but it's got a list of awesome creatures as high as the mightiest doric column. Let's take a look at who lays in wait.

The Chimera

When Ares and Hades betray Poseidon and Zeus in their efforts to free Kronos, they know they have to take Perseus out. They therefore dispatch the Chimera to Perseus' hometown with a mission: smash that place up!

The Chimera is a two-headed dog that can fly and spew fire. It also has a tail with venomous fangs. Great. So now I have to be jealous not only of things that have tails, but things that have KILLER TAILS, too.

The best part about the Chimera is that the two heads work as a unit. One spews the slimy, lighter-fluid spit, and the other provides the spark. What with the price of gas rising, I suppose it is smart to try and have one side focused primarily on fuel.

The Cyclops

We've seen 'em before, but not this sweaty. We meet three of these giants in the woods, who have an elaborate series of traps for those that dare tread into their realm. Best is that "Wrath's" Cyclopes have their own made-up language that just sounds like a dude with a deep voice going "Oogada-boogada!" That's almost as much fun as the plural of "cyclops" being "cyclopes."

The Liam Neeson

This Universe-spanning creature is often-times seen killing boats filled with sex-trafficking Slavs or aiding wounded oil-workers to a peaceful, wolf-induced death. This time he appears as a blunt, bearded instrument of exposition shot from intimidating low angles. Later in the film he is tied up in chains and forced to dye his hair white. The Liam Neeson is also known to acquire enough wealth for a new Caribbean home every few months, and will next be seen shouting down space robots with commands like "A-6!"

The Minotaur

 Warner Bros.

The adventurers in "Wrath of the Titans" have to find their way through a labyrinth, and you don't have to have an advanced degree in Mythological Theory in Table-Top Gaming from Gygax University to know what's lurking around the bend.

Movie minotaurs take many forms – from the darn-near fuzzy in the "Narnia" films to the anatomically exposed in "Your Highness." I give "Wrath" props for showing us one that is more human-looking than the other leading brands. Perhaps forthcoming tie-in fiction will reveal that he is just some dude with horns Gorilla-glued to his head.

Pegasus

He's back and he's thanking the Gods he turned down that guest shot on "Luck."

One thing I don't understand is why, when he is soaring through the air, he gallops as well as flaps his wings. It doesn't seem to make sense from a physics point of view. It was a little distracting at first until I reminded myself that FLYING HORSES AREN'T REAL AND STFU!

Kronos

A mountain sized figure of ash and lava, Kronos doesn't say much, but his actions speak for him. Chiefly they say, "get the hell out of the way!"

The final bossfight in "Wrath of the Titans" is, no joke, quite awesome. There's so much bold color on screen that some shots look like a Kandinsky painting. Which is exactly what audiences have been yearning from Hollywood for years, I can assure you.

It’s been a couple years since they battled on screen in what became a huge blockbuster, 2010's "Clash of the Titans." Now, real-life friends Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are reprising their roles as Greek gods in "Wrath of the Titans." Neeson plays Zeus, king of the gods; Fiennes is Hades, his brother and god of the underworld.

These two acting giants first matched wits (and handsomeness) in "Schindler’s List," which scored them a ream of awards nominations and established both as leading men to be reckoned with.

Both were born citizens of the British Empire. Each has taken a different path in film stardom of late, with Neeson known for his recent man-on-a-mission roles and Fiennes renowned for his villainous turn as Lord Voldemort in the "Harry Potter" series.

You might think the 6'4" Neeson would come out on top in a matchup with the 6-foot Fiennes. But you might be surprised.

Birth in the British Isles

Liam Neeson: He was born on June 7, 1952, in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, the son of a cook and a school caretaker. He’s the third of the couple’s four children, and their only son. Liam, by the way, is the Irish version of the name William.
Ralph Fiennes: Born on December 22, 1962, in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, he came into the world as Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton Wykeham Fiennes. He’s the eldest of six, whose siblings include actor Joseph Fiennes and director Martha Fiennes.
Advantage: Fiennes. He’s the eighth cousin of the Prince of Wales.

World War II Films

Liam Neeson: He cemented his status as an A-list actor with his portrayal of heroic German businessman Oskar Schindler, who saved the lives of 1,100 Jews by employing them in his factory as the Holocaust raged. The Steven Spielberg-directed "Schindler’s List" won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Ralph Fiennes: As the critically burned Count Almásy in Anthony Minghella's "The English Patient," he caused the hearts of women worldwide to flutter in a movie people either loved or hated. Among those who loved it: Academy Awards voters, who awarded the film Best Picture. In "Schindler’s List," he was the fear-inducing, gun-toting Nazi SS lieutenant Amon Goeth, who oversees the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto and who holds the fate of all its Jews in his hands.
Advantage: Fiennes. To play both a Nazi SS officer and a Hungarian cartographer nursed back to health in war-torn Italy in the span of a few years was a major World War II movie coup.

Also Check Out: Pledge the True Greek Fraternity With 5 "Wrath of the Titans" Clips

Popcorn Movies

Liam Neeson: In "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace," he starred as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn; later, in "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones," his voice was heard as the character. He starred as Ra’s al Ghul in 2005’s "Batman Begins" and will appear later this summer as the same character in "The Dark Knight Rises." Then, there’s also the recent box office success of "Taken," for which a sequel is in production, and last year's thriller "Unknown."
Ralph Fiennes: His portrayal of Harry Potter's archenemy Lord Voldemort, aka The Dark Lord, in four of the "Harry Potter" movies from 2005 through 2011 is acknowledged as one of filmdom’s fiercest villain performances -- as in the most evil and frightening.
Advantage: Fiennes. If the smashed-face Voldemort didn’t scare the hell out of you, much less appear in your nightmares, you have ice water running through your veins.

Awards

Liam Neeson: He was nominated for an Oscar for "Schindler's List" and also received a BAFTA and a Golden Globe nod. Neeson has been widely recognized for his roles in "Michael Collins" (1996) and "Kinsey" (2004).
Ralph Fiennes: He’s been nominated for an Oscar twice, as supporting actor for "Schindler’s List" (for which he won the BAFTA) and lead actor for "The English Patient." He’s taken home two Spike TV Scream Awards for Best Villain for his role as Lord Voldemort, along with a number of other critics' honors and nominations for his roles in films including "The Duchess" (2008), "The Constant Gardner" (2005) and "The End of the Affair" (1999). He even got a Razzie nomination for worst actor in "The Avengers" (1998).
Advantage: Fiennes. The breadth and depth of his awards recogntion outpaces Neeson's. Neither has taken home an Oscar, but it’s only a matter of time.

Women and Relationships

Liam Neeson: He was married to actress Natasha Richardson, who died after incurring a brain injury during a skiing accident in March 2009. They had been married since July 1994 and had two sons, Michael and Daniel. In the early '80s, Neeson lived with Helen Mirren after they had met on the set of "Excalibur." Before his marriage, he was linked with Julia Roberts and Brooke Shields. He’s recently dated British PR exec Freya St. Johnston.
Ralph Fiennes: He was married to actress Alex Kingston from 1993-97 before settling into an 11-year relationship with Francesca Annis. In 2007 he joined the mile-high club, reportedly having sex with a Qantas flight attendant in the lavatory on a flight from Australia to India, where he was traveling as a UNICEF ambassador to promote awareness of HIV and safe sex. He’s also apparently had relationships with Ellen Barkin and Amanda Harlech, among others.
Advantage: Neeson. Richardson, Roberts, Shields and Mirren (especially Mirren). Need we say more?

And the winner is ...

Fiennes, because sometimes the dark side has its rewards. Between Hades and Voldemort, there are few he cannot vanquish with his powers. And the sexy but sensitive romantic side he's shown in films like "The English Patient," "The End of the Affair" and even "Maid in Manhattan" give this Brit the added hot factor, as does the fact that he's branched into directing, with 2011's "Coriolanus."

The sequel to 2010's "Clash of the Titans" is here ... with a vengeance. "Wrath of the Titans" picks up a few years after its predecessor, with Perseus (Sam Worthington) still denying his godly roots; but when his papa Zeus (Liam Neeson) is taken captive by Hades (Ralph Feinnes) in a plot to bring fearsome Titan Cronos back to power, he gets back in action faster than you can say "3-D glasses."

If you're wondering, yes, the IMAX 3-D is way good this time, and director Jonathan Liebesman does his darndest to make this new romp through Greek mythology bigger, grittier and more epic than the last.

1. Sam Worthington's accent shows through a little bit. Mt. Olympus on the barbie, anyone?

Sometimes a little wrath can be a lot of a good thing.

The 2010 remake of "Clash of the Titans" knocked the 3-D glasses right off our faces, and from the looks of the trailer, the monsters in "Wrath of the Titans" will make the Kraken look like baby krill.

Sam Worthington reprises his role as Perseus, who just wants to live as a chill guy raising his kid, not the heroic son of Zeus who defeated the Kraken. But when Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Ares (Edgar Ramirez) plot to overthrow Zeus (Liam Neeson) and bring Daddy Kronos and the rest of the Titans back to the throne, it's up to Perseus to save his dad and the human race from 'Titan'-ic annihilation. Guess the Greek gods tend not to get along at family reunions.

The ancient Greeks never go out of style, and you don't have to either with our godly awesome giveaway. We've got some hot items that will be the envy of every mortal, and they're thisclose to being yours.

Fans of epic video games can be forgiven for their confusion today, because the brand new teaser trailer for "Wrath of the Titans" is here -- and it looks like nothing so much as a tease for "God of War IV."

Which is a very good thing.

Quick refresher: Two years ago, the remake of "Clash of the Titans," which starred Sam Worthington as the half-god hero Perseus, did solid box office even though many fans and critics complained about the movie's poor 3D transfer and shady CGI.

Well, now Worthington and co-star Liam Neeson are back and judging by the latest tease, they've worked out all the technical difficulties, resulting in some awesome special effects in the form of the malevolent Titans. So will Worthington's fight against the Titans, which hits theaters on March 30, be as awesome as the one Kratos waged in "God of War?" Grab your controller and hit play on this clip from YouTube to see for yourself:

Here at Planet Fanboy we like to be prepared. We don't just waltz down to the metroplex and stare up at the marquee and go "uhhhhhhhh" like mindless drones who deserve to be shot out of an airlock into deep space.

This is serious business.

I don't know about you, but I've got my whole year of movie watching planned out. Feel free to crib from my sheet, and if we have the option to go to a theater with one of those soda machines with seven hundred flavors, let's go there.

Here's Part 1 of the 2012 preview:

The Rest of January:

A cold cruel month that isn't all that welcoming for quality fanboy cinema. Short of seeing Ra's Al-Ghul/Qui Gon-Jin battle wolves in "The Grey" on Jan 27, this is an opportunity to catch up on all those unopened Blu-rays.

February 10 – "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 3-D"

 Lucasfilm

Because we all need to see Watto's big anti-semetic stereotype schnozz in 3-D! We're going to this, but we're going to talk back at the screen the whole time. (Except for during the podrace and the Darth Maul parts.)

February 17 – "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance"

I've actually seen this movie already. It's horrible. It makes the first one look like "Iron Man." There's one funny part where Nic Cage goes all "not the bees!"-style crazy. You'll love that when you see it on YouTube.

March 9 – "John Carter"

Yay! The first real fanboy movie of the year, and its in the "300" calendar slot. Considering how well Pixar's Brad Bird made the jump to live action with "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol," I'm hoping Andrew Stanton can continue the trend. Frankly, the trailers only have me somewhat-sold, but considering how starved I'll be for giant interstellar beasts by March 9th I'll be lapping this up.

March 16 – "Wrath of the Titans"

A sequel nobody asked for by a director nobody likes. I have a theory. The theory is that this is actually gonna be a great deal of poppish, breezy fun. Let's wait and see.

March 23 – "The Hunger Games"

 Lionsgate

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sure it's gonna be great. And I'm also sure there's a good chance there's a girl who named her cat Haymitch who'll want to go with you. Just be true to yourself and be sure to make a few loud references to Kinji Fukasaku's "Battle Royale" on line.

April 23 – "Cabin in the Woods"

Here's another one I've been lucky enough to see and I can tell you that IT IS AWESOME. This Whedon-penned film starts off as just another really clever horror flick, but then they peel the curtain back and OHMYGOD you have no idea how awesome this gets. Josh Lyman from "The West Wing" steals the show – and that's nothing I ever expected to saywithout the influence of drugs or alcohol.

May 4 – "The Avengers," Excuse me, "Marvel's The Avengers."

I'm still waiting for the great big "fooled you!" on this one. Never in the history of modern cinema has there been a crescendo of big
budget films leading to a team-up like this. I hope they say "Assemble" like five hundred times.

May 11 – "Dark Shadows"?

I dunno. Go see "Avengers" again.

May 18 – "Battleship"

 Film 44

Oy. Go see "Avengers" again.

May 25 – "Men in Black III"

The most troubled production in recent history had had an unprecedented amount of reshoots. But the first “MIB” was a landmark
and the second one was fun, too. (Probably. I don't really remember that one too well.) Fingers crossed on this one, I want it to be good.

June 1 – "Snow White and the Huntsman"

This has one of the best teaser trailers out there right now. And in addition to great special effects and Charlize Theron looking spooky it has every British actor ever. It's like "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" with dwarves instead of intelligence agents.

June 8 – "Prometheus"

Excuse me, I need to clean up. I just thought about that trailer again. Here's the thing: Ridley Scott, at least on a visual level, is at the absolute top of his game right now. He just hasn't had a good script in a decade. Enter Damon Lindleof, a quasi-"Alien" prequel and Charlize Theron and Magneto and the original "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and it is shot in native 3-D and it explains the origin of the Space Jockey and hff...gfff...hfff. I need my asthma inhaler!

"Prometheus" is, very much, the most anticipated movie of 2012 on Planet Fanboy.

June 15 – "Jack the Giant Killer"

Meh.

If you're like us, then you love things like fire, giants, gods, explosions, jumping, sweating, fighting, swords, girls, muscles, dirt, boats, beards, screaming, punching, portentious speechifying and ancient Greek myths come to life.

And there's only one new trailer that has all of the above: "Wrath of the Titans."

Let's just say this one isn't a rom-com.

The sequel to "Clash of the Titans" is coming and Sam Worthington is back in all his earnest, do-gooder, half-god glory, reprising the role of the mortal world's greatest (and only) champion, Perseus. This time around, though, he learns much to his dismay that all those titans he thought he had whupped last movie? Turns out they're back — and they're angry.

The movie doesn't come out until March 30, but we have the trailer right now. So check it out, courtesy of Apple Trailers — and get our wrath on, y'all.
