When Vanessa Hudgens was starring in Disney's "High School Musical" movies (which really weren't that long ago), did she ever imagine in a million years that one of her near-future gigs would involve her spending most of her screen time in little more than a bikini, swearin', smokin', drinkin' and sexin' up a storm and just generally flinging herself into a debauchery super-storm?

[From MTV News] Given all of the advanced buzz surrounding Harmony Korine's latest project, the sex- and drug-fueled vacation romp "Spring Breakers," it should come as little surprise that the film's actresses — many former Disney darlings — performed acts that would make a certain Mouse blush and hide his face behind gloved hands. But how did the leading ladies themselves feel about these daring deeds?

"The thing I was most scared of was the sex scene and the nudity issue behind all of it," Vanessa Hudgens told MTV News recently. "Because I was not down to show this [gestures to chest]."

Can't wait until Friday to see James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson run wild in director Harmony Korine’s ode to debauchery, "Spring Breakers"? Well, these top insane moments from the film should tide you over (yes, we've got SPOILERS GALORE).

If you've been living under a rock, here’s what we’re talking about: your favorite Disney stars wearing only bikinis in a movie about a group of girlfriends going on spring break. But in Korine's world, along with booze, drugs and beach bodies there's a rapping drug dealer (James Franco), a Britney Spears ballad and lots of guns.

Now let's get this party started!

1. Spriiiinnngggg Breeeeaaaaak Forreeeevvvverrrrr ...

Director Harmony Korine wastes no time in thrusting us right into what spring break is all about: fun, sun, skin and beer. The film opens with a montage of sexed-up spring breakers partying it up on the beach as Skrillex plays; topless girls give the finger to the camera as guys chug beer from funnels and pour them into the mouths of said topless girls. For anyone unfamiliar with what goes on during spring break, Korine gives you a crash course. Anyone who isn’t down should leave the theater now.

2. James Franco Raps

We're introduced to Franco's character Alien once the girls make it down to spring break and are front-row for his rap performance on the beach, which is only a front for his main income: drug dealing and robbing spring breakers. But here we get a bit of Franco's talents blessing the mic, with a full gold grill, braided long hair and dark '80s retro shades. The girls will meet up with Alien later when he has to bail them out of jail.

3. Vanessa Hudgens Gets Naked

Now let's get this out in the open. Korine actually does a very tasteful job of shooting his starlet in the buff. It's a love scene in a pool between Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Franco, most of it shot above the water. There are also a few scenes of them sitting on the side of the pool, but thanks to the lighting (or lack thereof) and Hudgen's back to the camera, much is left to the imagination. But as you read on you'll realize Hudgens has stripped any Disney affiliation she has left.

4. James Franco Covers Britney Spears Ballad-Style on the Piano

The music of Britney Spears was once a staple of spring break in the late '90s, and this film champions her music with not just one but two renditions of her songs. The girls sing (and dance) to "… Baby One More Time" in a parking lot, but the more memorable is Alien playing "Everytime"

on the piano in the back yard of his palatial estate while the girls, dressed in ski masks and holding guns, dance around him. Wonder how Brit Brit feels about the love?

5. Selena Gomez Takes a Bong Hit

Out of all the main characters in "Spring Breakers," Selena Gomez is the only one who decided to keep her good-girl rep intact for the film. Playing goodie Catholic girl Faith, she leaves the debauchery halfway through the movie. At first she sees the spring break experience as a beautiful sanctuary from her everyday worries, but once she and her friends cross paths with Alien, Faith gets freaked (and who would blame her) and hightails it back home. Though that's not before she has a little fun dancing with the girls and smoking some weed.

6. James Franco Sucks Off Two Gun Barrels

After getting to know the girls post-bailout with a chat in the park and sending them to a crunked-out pool hall, Alien brings them back to his mansion filled with drugs and weapons. Candy and Brit (Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson) are the most attracted to the danger that Alien represents and soon turn the tables when they aim two of his loaded handguns on him. While the ladies bark orders while pointing their weapons in his face, Alien begins to give the two gun barrels fellatio ... showing the girls that however crazy they think they are, he's double that.

7. Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens Go On a Hit

In the film’s "Miami Vice"-like finale, Alien puts Candy and Brit on his motorboat and heads over to the mansion of his competition (played by Gucci Mane) to take him out. Dressed in ski masks and brandishing automatic weapons, the girls spray through the solders until they get to the boss and execute him. And like most young 'uns at the end of their spring break experiences, they call their moms, tell them they love them and head on home.

The Hollywood Reporter calls for stormy weather as "Project X" star Miles Teller will star opposite Analeigh Tipton and Jessica Szohr in "Two Night Stand," a romantic indie that centers on a pair of twentysomething strangers who awaken after an ill-advised one-night stand to find themselves snowed in by a blizzard that’s put all of Manhattan on ice.

• After playing a victim in "Straw Dogs," Kate Bosworth is looking to be the rabble-rouser this time around. Heat Vision reports that the "Blue Crush" beauty will be playing James Franco's revenge-minded (and meth-addicted) sister in "Homefront," the action thriller starring Jason Statham and written by Sylvester Stallone.

• Speaking of inclement weather, Casey Affleck better buy himself a winter coat (or two!). The Hollywood Reporter brings news that the "Ocean's Eleven" star is attached to "Race to the South Pole," the true story of Englishman Robert Falcon Scott and Norwegian Roald Amundsen and their pursuit to be the first person to reach the South Pole in the early 1900s. Casey's brother Ben and pal Matt Damon will produce the film via their Pearl Street banner.

• Will Melissa McCarthy soon be nursing a "Hangover"? Variety serves up a bit of news involving the "Bridesmaids" scene-stealer (and Oscar nominee) being in talks to take on a small role in "The Hangover Part III." Details of the part are being kept under wraps, though we imagine it will probably involve inflicting some sort of bizarre humiliation and/or confusion upon the members of the Wolf Pack.

• Nothing like a failed suicide to put a spring back in your stride! Variety reports that Sam Neill and Rosamund Pike have joined Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots in "A Long Way Down," the screen adaptation of Nick Hornby's darkly comic novel about four strangers who meet on New Year's Eve on the top of a London skyscraper and make a pact to help each other rather than plunge to their deaths.

• Let it forever be known as the movie that brought together the worlds of "Doctor Who" and "Battlestar Galactica." Deadline reports that Katee Sackhoff is joining Karen Gillen in "Oculus," a horror film about a haunted antique mirror.

• "Game over, man, just game over!" Heat Vision brings word that "Aliens" star Bill Paxton is in talks to join Tom Cruise in "All You Need Is Kill," director Doug Liman's sci-fi tale of a soldier stuck in a time loop.

• Gong Li is also who we'd cast if anyone ever made a movie called "The Last Goddess." Deadline reports that the "Miami Vice" beauty will be playing the title role in "The Last Empress," an epic biopic that tells the story of Empress Cixi and her complex relationships with Emperor Guang Xu and Imperial advisor American Costa, both of whom shared a desire to modernize China.

• Well, at least we know she's used to working with a whole lot of fake blood! Heat Vision brings word that "Dexter" actress Aimee Garcia will be assisting Gary Oldman as a scientist who helps bring Officer Alex J. Murphy back from the dead in the "RoboCop" remake.

• Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale will soon be feeling a bit more ... animated. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that the two actresses have joined Ashley Benson and Big Time Rush members Kendall Schmidt and Logan Henderson as part of the voice cast of "The Great Migration," an animated film about a group of characters that encounter a mutated predator threatening to destroy the balance of their environment.

• Heh-heh-hello, Monaco! Variety reports that the original "Party Girl" herself, Parker Posey, has joined the cast of "Grace of Monaco," the chronicle of Grace Kelly's (Nicole Kidman) complicated and politcially charged marriage to Monaco's Prince Rainier III (Tim Roth). Posey will play Madge Tivey-Faucon, Kelly's scheming lady-in-waiting.

We've got a new trailer for the upcoming thriller "Frozen Ground," — starring Nicolas Cage, Vanessa Hudgens and John Cusack — and in it one of them plays a cop, one of them plays a killer and one of them plays a stripper. But can you guess which is which?

Fingers crossed Cusack is the stripper!

Okay, so no dice on that one. As you might have guessed, it's Hudgens doing the stripping in this dark look at the real life murderer known as the Green River Killer. But — surprise! — the serial killer is played by Cusack this time around, with Cage joining the side of the angels as a law enforcement officer trying to track down and stop the baddie.

Vanessa Hudgens is continuing to run as far from "High School Musical" as possible.

The "Sucker Punch" beauty is the latest addition to the ever-growing ensemble of Robert Rodriguez's grindhouse sequel, "Machete Kills," according to The Playlist.

News of Hudgens' involvement comes via her own official site, where it's revealed that she'll be playing the role of Cereza. As that's Spanish for "cherry," it should give you some idea of what kind of gal she is — yet another scantily-clad object of desire that probably knows how to shoot a gun and/or throw a knife.

Rodriguez has never been shy about showing off his (dis-) tastes, after all.

Hudgens joins a cast that now includes Danny Trejo, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Charlie Sheen and Lady Gaga. If this doesn't end up being the weirdest movie ever made, it certainly won't be from lack of trying.

Vanessa Hudgens has been keeping things edgy lately, distancing herself from the likes of such cutesy outings as "Beastly" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." She's got a role in Harmony Korine's upcoming "Spring Breakers" as well as this winter's serial killer thriller, "The Frozen Ground." She'll also soon be seen as a pregnant homeless teenager in "Gimme Shelter."

"Machete Kills" will hit theaters sometime in 2013.

Fans of ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" are about to get an indie education thanks to Ashley Benson and her new role in Harmony Korine's next film.

The starlet is joining yet another group of fresh-faced ladies — Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez among them — in "Spring Breakers," in which the trio will play coeds who try to rob a fast food restaurant to pay for their spring vacation. When they get popped, a local criminal (James Franco) springs them from jail in exchange for killing his nemesis.

Emma Roberts recently dropped out of the movie, and it's not clear if Benson is taking over her role or not as there's still one more spring breaker to be cast. Roberts was set to play a young rebel without a cause, so it's possible that's the character Benson will take over. Benson's character on "Pretty Little Liars," Hanna Lee Marin, is a former bullied kid who suddenly gets hot, popular and rebellious, so it's not hard to imagine this member of the five-finger discount club trying her hand at a little stick-'em-up.

Korine has been terrorizing Hollywood since he wrote "Kids" in 1995, which introduced downtown hipster Chloe Sevigny to the movie-going public. His most recent films include "Trash Humpers," which is about old people who dress up in creepy outfits and hump trash cans, among other things. Needless to say, it will be very interesting to see what he does with this possibly more mainstream movie featuring squeaky clean Disney starlets.

Anyone would be lucky to spend spring break with James Franco.

And writer-director Harmony Korine is one lucky fella, as he's lured the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" star to his latest bit of cinematic madness, "Spring Breakers," according to Variety.

"Spring Breakers" follows a group of college girls who rob a restaurant in order to afford their road trip to the beach. Franco is set to play a rapping drug and arms dealer who bails them out of jail and entices them to kill his arch-rival.

Emma Roberts ("Scream 4"), Vanessa Hudgens ("Sucker Punch") and Selena Gomez ("The Muppets") are currently in talks to play the novice criminals. Roberts would be playing a Southern hellraiser who feeds off of danger, while Gomez would be a playing a shy religious girl who isn't into all of this thrill-seeking. Hudgens would be playing... well, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

"Spring Breakers" sounds a lot more mainstream (relatively, anyway) than anything else Harmony Korine has ever done. The former enfant terrible of cinema is most well-known for writing Larry Clark's "Kids" and for writing and directing such bizarre art house fare as "Gummo," "Julien Donkey-Boy," "Mister Lonely" and "Trash Humpers."

Meanwhile, add "Spring Breakers" to the list of about a hundred other things James Franco has going on. He's currently filming "Oz, the Great and Powerful" under the direction of his "Spider-Man" pal, Sam Raimi.

Hollywood's starlets can breathe a sigh of relief, because the FBI has finally made an arrest in what they've coined Operation Hackerazzi (kudos to the agent who invented that clever moniker)— the cell phone hacking ring that has plagued young female stars by releasing their personal and, ahem, intimate photos, texts and emails to the world.

Though the FBI has yet to release a name—or any information aside from the fact that an arrest has been made—this is a major step forward in the case, which floundered for more than a year, E Online reports.

Scarlett Johansson became the latest celebrity victim just a few short weeks ago, adding her name to a list that already included Vanessa Hudgens, Christina Aguilera, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Jessica Alba, Selena Gomez, Ali Larter, Busy Philipps, Emma Caulfield, Renee Olstead and Addison Timlin.

In other words, it was a long list.

But now these beautiful young women can sleep easy, knowing that the hacker, who has plagued them since early last year, is in custody. Guess the next time their private photos and messages get leaked they won't have anyone to blame but themselves.

The "What If" game is an entertaining way to burn a few hours. What if you went to Vassar instead of Arizona State University? What if you never went to happy hour that night? What if the Portland Trailblazers had drafted Michael Jordan?

Cinema is one of the best, and most maddening, places to play the "What If" game. Only a few truly great roles float around Hollywood each year. A-list actors jockey against one another for these parts, and the up-and-comers battle it out in auditions. What if Denzel Washington had accepted the lead role in "Ray"? What if Francis Ford Coppola had cast Frank Sinatra as Vito Corleone in "The Godfather"? What if Ashton Kutcher had played Bruce Wayne in "Batman Begins"? The questions go on and on.

Auditions for "The Twilight Saga" drew every young actor with a half-decent agent. For this reason, there are plenty of "What If" scenarios with actors who have made names for themselves in other projects.

Background: The "High School Musical" star was in the lead for this tough-as-werewolf-claws role during casting for "New Moon." Her pal Ashley Greene even enthused in an interview, "I think she'd be great." Apparently, this fell apart when Hudgens learned Leah, the only known female shapeshifter, wouldn't appear until "Eclipse."
What If: Sure, Hudgens has that dark, sultry thing going for her, but I can't imagine being scared of her soft baby face. Julia Jones, who landed the Leah part, has a strong, angular face and eyes that yell, "Don't f*** with me!" She gives me nightmares, while I just want to hug Hudgens.

Background: Before Lawrence looked stunning in her red dress at the 2011 Academy Awards, she was an actress-with-potential knocking around Hollywood auditions. A fan of the novels, Lawrence said, "I love the 'Twilight' books. I'm not even ashamed to say it, they are like methamphetamine to me. So when I heard Kristen Stewart say, "I only read the first one," I was like, "Oh man," because she wasn't a huge fan of the books."
What If: Being such a Twi-hard, Lawrence may have delivered a more literal performance, for better or worse. She's such a great actress it's tough to say Stewart is definitely the better Bella. However, if Lawrence had gotten the role, she would not have been done "Winter's Bone," we wouldn't have seen in her Oscar red dress and she wouldn't be starring in "The Hunger Games." All of those would have been tragedies.

Shiloh Fernandez

Background: According to "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke, "I brought the four guys that I thought were the best and she [Kristen Stewart] had to make out with them or do four different scenes with them and at the end of those two days she said, 'It’s gotta be Rob.'" Fernandez was one of those forgotten other three.
What If: Getting the role of Edward instead of Hardwicke's consolation prize to him (Peter in "Red Riding Hood") would have been astronomically better for Fernandez's career. However, he doesn't hold any grudges. When asked, "'Twilight' or "Harry Potter'"? He answered, "I have to support my director and say 'Twilight.'" Although that was before he saw the box office of "Red Riding Hood."

Dustin Milligan

Background: Milligan was one of the other forgotten three Edwards that Stewart quickly forgot about. He told AccessHollywood.com, "I did my best Edward Cullen. But unfortunately, I didn't have a British accent. So, I didn’t get the job!" He's joking, but I think he's using humor to mask his pain. "It's like, boom!" Dustin said, describing how people react when hearing Robert's British accent. "Ladies love that. Melt."
What If: I don't want to be mean, but Milligan would never have worked. He's Canadian. Can you imagine a Canadian Cullen? I'm laughing just thinking about the term "Canadian Cullen." Milligan's rightful place is on "90210" just like his fellow countryman Jason Priestley.

Background: "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" heartthrob Ben Barnes threw his name in the ring for Aro. The casting directors probably just laughed and went back to drinking wine.
What If: Can you picture Babyface Barnes leading the Volturi? C'mon. There need to be a couple of mature vampires in this series. Good job sticking with Michael Sheen, "Twilight Saga." Not that you need my approval (but I'm sure you still want it).

Background: When producers began working on "New Moon," they weren't sure Taylor Lautner could turn his skinny torso into a whole lotta sexy wolf muscles. So, they began shopping around for a Bigger Jacob Black. At the top of their list was "Scorpion King 2" star Michael Copon. Team Jacob would never have forgiven them.
What If: Sure, Lautner looks like a completely new person in "New Moon," but it would have been really jarring for fans if they had recast such a pivotal role. Especially with a B-actor who played the Blue Ranger in the "Power Rangers" movies.

Background: When you watch the "Planet Earth" series, it's an odd feeling seeing the seal swimming desperately away from the great white shark. You know it's going to die, but it doesn't know that. I bet that's the same feeling that producers had when "Privileged" star Lucy Hale read against Dakota Fanning for the role of Jane.
What If: "What if monkeys flew out of my butt?" I'm not even going to entertain this "What If."

Background: This is another WTF audition. Welch even admitted as much to MTV: "As much as I appreciate my representatives thinking that I could pull off hauntingly beautiful -- the most gorgeous creature you will ever see on the planet -- it's not quite me ... Then I auditioned for the role of Eric ... I auditioned for pretty much every role before [being cast as] Mike."
What If: Please, if Welch had landed Edward, we'd have the most awkward movie coupling since Ben Affleck and J.Lo in "Jersey Girl."

"High School Musical" made her career, but as of late, Vanessa Hudgens has been doing everything in her power to wash away the memories of the tween pop phenomenon. That kind of early success can define a young actress and it's obvious from her recent career choices, the last thing Hudgens wants to be is a cute face with a pair of rockin' vocal chords.

Her latest is a step in the right direction: Hudgens will join Brendan Fraser in the indie drama "Gimme Shelter," which Hollywood Reporter notes will start shooting at the end of this month. Directed by Ron Krauss (who has a few low-budget indies under his belt), the film tells the story of a pregnant, homeless teenager (Hudgens) who abandons her abusive mother and finds solace with her biological father (Fraser).

Complications arise when the dad throws her back out on the street when she refuses to abort her child, a grievance derived from his own fling that resulted in Vanessa Hudgens. Whether the film will utilize the 1969 Rolling Stones track has yet to be determined (you know it will).

Sounds like heavy material and not the usual cup of tea for either actor. "Gimme Shelter" could be a place for for both them to flex their acting muscles and shine -- or flounder in Lifetime Original Movie-level melodrama. Let's hope for the former, as Hudgens is a budding star with obvious potential and Fraser...well, after "Furry Vengeance," the man could use the positive boost.

With a start this month, "Gimme Shelter" fits the perfect timeline for a Sundance 2012 debut, but you won't have to wait that long for your next fix of Hudgens -- she'll be popping of the screen in the 3-D sequel "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" this September.

Her Big Year: Portman kicks off the year receiving endless praise for her bold performance in "Black Swan" and seems a lock for a second Oscar nomination. Odds are she'll walk away with Best Actress, but even if she loses, she won't be forgotten with no less than five movies hitting theaters this year, and one at Sundance later this month ("Hesher"). Awards and movies won't be her only headlines, as Portman recently announced her engagement to Benjamin Millepied and that they're expecting their first baby. Movies, marriage and motherhood? 2011 is definitely Portman's superstar year.

Justin Timberlake

Starring In: "Bad Teacher" (June 17), "Friends with Benefits" (July 22), "Now" (Sept. 30)
His Big Year: Timberlake is on the cusp of reinvention as he goes into 2011.  He's no stranger to acting, but "The Social Network" finally earned him the critical respect he wanted and needed. Sure, we're still waiting for an album announcement, but moviemaking is clearly his new focus and passion. We wouldn't be surprised if he suddenly announced plans to direct.

Johnny Depp

Disney

Starring In: "Rango" (March 4), "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" (May 20), "The Rum Diary"
His Big Year: Depp is already a superstar beyond all human proportions, and 2011 promises to be another year where he dominates the box office, the blogs and the shelves at Hot Topic. As always, his upcoming slate is an eclectic one, and he might even nab award attention with his revisit to Hunter S. Thompson in "The Rum Diary." But his biggest headlines will probably occur as he dons fangs to shoot "Dark Shadows" for his longtime friend and collaborator, Tim Burton. Considering Depp and vampires are the hottest things going, the world may actually implode when he's first photographed in costume. At the very least, girls might start saying "Edward who?"

Olivia Wilde

Paramount

Starring In: "Cowboys and Aliens" (July 29), "The Change-Up" (Aug.t 5), "Now" (Sept. 30)

Her Big Year: As dust settles on Dec. 2010, one thing's obvious:  "Tron: Legacy" didn't download a lot of love. Wilde had a lot of buzz going into "Tron: Legacy" and was generally regarded as one of its highlights. She converted the attention into enviable roles, the biggest and brightest of which is "Cowboys and Aliens." As the lone cowgirl to a cast of cowboys, all eyes will be on her again.

Robert Pattinson

Fox

Starring In: "Water for Elephants" (April 22), "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" (Nov. 18), "Bel Ami"

His Big Year: A little of the heat seems to be off Pattinson these days. It's not that he's any less popular, but he and "Twilight" have become such household names that the shrieks, stalking and height of his hair don't make headlines anymore. "Remember Me" is practically ancient history. In 2011, he has his big chance to break free of Edward thanks to an enviable role in the highly anticipated adaptation of Sara Gruen's "Water for Elephants."

Cameron Diaz

Sony

Starring In: "The Green Hornet" (Jan. 14), "Bad Teacher" (June 17)

Her Big Year: Last year, we only got to see Diaz in one movie, since the other, "Shrek Ever After" just featured her voice. This year, she's headlining two, both of which rely on her sparkly comedic timing. If you doubt she really has a sense of humor, just look at her costar in "Bad Teacher" – it's none other than her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake.

Chris Evans

Columbia

Starring In: "What's Your Number?" (April 29), "Captain America: The First Avenger"  (July 22)

His Big Year: Of all the actors listed here, Evans has the biggest and scariest year ahead of him. He spent 2010 filming and doing Gucci ads, and now faces opening the biggest and most anticipated superhero flick yet: "Captain America: The First Avenger." To add to the pressure, it opens in the middle of San Diego Comic Con. If Evans is the Captain America we dream of, he will become an instant superstar and pop culture icon. We're patriotic, so we believe in him.

Penelope Cruz

Disney

Starring In: "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" (May 20)
Her Big Year: Cruz spent her 2010 with filming Johnny Depp, "Sex and the City 2" and superhunk Javier Bardem, the lucky girl. Cruz is largely known for drama, so seeing her swashbuckle and aim for adventure and laughs with Jack Sparrow should be fun. After that, she'll be facing her most challenging role yet -- that of real-life mommy.

Christoph Waltz

Columbia

Starring In: "The Green Hornet" (Jan. 14), "Water for Elephants," (April 22), "The Three Musketeers" (Oct. 14)

His Big Year: The world first met Waltz as a sadistic and strange Nazi in "Inglourious Basterds," a role which nabbed him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.  He spent all of 2010 filming a variety of roles. Sure, they're all villains, but we know he'll be perfectly sinister each time. Still, wouldn't it be awesome if he signed on for a Disney movie someday, where he plays a hero who saves kittens and puppies?

Russell Brand

Warner Bros.

Starring In: "Hop" (April 1), "Arthur" (April 8 )

His Big Year: Freshly wed to Katy Perry, Brand doesn't have a lot of screen time this year. But his remake of "Arthur" is pretty controversial, as the original (with Dudley Moore) is beloved by many and Brand's comedy divides many. But he has Helen Mirren to help him out, and the crazily-coiffed funny man shows no signs of stopping his take over of America.

Amanda Seyfried

Warner Bros.

Starring In: "Red Riding Hood" (March 11), "Now" (Sept. 30)

Her Big Year: Seyfried has enjoyed a quiet and steady climb over the past two years, thanks in part to HBO's "Big Love" (which wraps up this year) but she doesn't have a big 2011 slate. Follwing last year's movies about "Letters," she continues to woo the ladies with "Red Riding Hood," a supernatural romantic play on the old fairytale, as directed by "Twilight" helmer Catherine Hardwicke.

Daniel Craig

Paramount

Starring In: "Cowboys and Aliens" (July 29), "Dream House"( Sept. 30), "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (Dec. 21), "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" (Dec. 28)

His Big Year: Craig is James Bond and the finest thing to happen to blue-swim trunks since ... well, ever.  But he hasn't had much luck being anything but Bond. That's set to change this year. His best chance of box-office breakout might be "Cowboys and Aliens," particularly since Westerns have a good track record for making male megastars (John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Kevin Costner come to mind). This is Craig's year to be even bigger than Bond.

Emma Stone

Starring In: "Friends With Benefits" (July 22), "Crazy Stupid Love" (July 29), "The Help" (Aug. 12).

Her Big Year: Freshly blonde for the "Spider-Man" reboot and currently loved by male and female moviegoers alike after "Easy A" and "Zombieland," Stone has nowhere to go but up. She has two big comedies coming out this year (one of which reteams her with "Easy A" director Will Gluck), and will be trying her hand at drama just to prove she's got more than one speed. The only risk she runs is burning out audiences on her charm (not likely).

Justin Bieber

Paramount

Starring In: "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" (Feb. 11)

His Big Year: The world figured out who Justin Bieber was in 2010, and he promptly took it over, culminating in an appearance on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." He may no longer be a daily Twitter trending topic, but he has yet to stop making headlines. He kicked off 2011 by making the cover of Vanity Fair, and by seeing his rumored girlfriend, Selena Gomez, receive death threats on his behalf. But he's still on Twitter, chatting with fans, solidifying their loyalty, trying to get on "Glee" and priming them for the culmination of Bieberdom: the 3-D release of his concert film, "Never Say Never." Let's say it again: 3-D Bieber.  The world will never be the same.

Seth Rogen

Starring In: "The Green Hornet" (Jan. 14), "Paul" (March 18), "Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom" (May 27)

His Big Year: Seth Rogen will be proving he's not just a goofball when "The Green Hornet" opens in next week. He'll be proving he's an action hero! That's a lot for one year, so it's no wonder we only will be hearing his voice for the rest of 2011 -- he sounds like an alien in "Paul" and a mantis in "Kung Fu Panda 2."

Vanessa Hudgens

CBS Films

Starring In: "Beastly" (March 18), "Sucker Punch" (March 25), "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" (Sept. 23)

Her Big Year: This year is Hudgens' biggest and best chance to break free of "High School Musical," and become a star in her own right. She has quite a platform to do it in Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch" (March 25), a weird, sexy, and action packed movie that's definitely not by Disney. Explosions, katana, and "Mysterious" appearance beside Michael Caine should outstrip her past and earn her a starring role in 2012.

Brad Pitt

Starring In: "The Tree of Life" (May 27), "Moneyball" (Sept. 23)

His Big Year: With the exception of his voiceover work in "Megamind," Pitt has been absent from the big screen since "Inglourious Basterds" in 2009. 2011 is not only the year that will change that, but the one that may again see him be a serious Oscar contender thanks to Terrence Malick's long awaited drama, "The Tree of Life." He'll also star in the long awaited "Moneyball" which is primed for award season with its fall release date. With its theme of underdogs crunching numbers to baseball victory, it could be this year's "The Social Network."

Sofia Vergara

Starring In: "The Smurfs" (Aug. 3), "Happy Feet 2" (Nov. 18) and "New Year's Eve" (Dec. 9)

Her Big Year: Not a day goes by when we don't hear a guy gushing over the beauty of Vergara or people raving about "Modern Family." This year, she ventures into big screen territory. From her signature accent to her remarkable curves, she's one small screen star we're super-excited to welcome to our wheelhouse.

Taylor Lautner

Summit

Starring In: "Abduction" (Sept. 23), "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" (Nov. 18)

His Big Year: As with Pattinson, Lautner is winding down on his "Twilight" duties. While last year saw him hailed as the newest action star, Lautner has taken it surprisingly slow, and many of his much-discussed projects ("Cancun," "Stretch Armstrong," "Incarceron") remain in production. He only has two films scheduled thus far -- and only one of them isn't "Breaking Dawn" -- but "Abduction" is Lautner's first time as a leading man, which is a big jump from Jacob Black.

Jason Segel

Sony

Starring In: "Bad Teacher" (June 17), "The Muppets" (Nov. 23)

His Big Year: Segel played second fiddle to Seth Rogen in "Knocked Up," but he's now a leading man in his own right. Audiences can't get enough of him (even if they have seen all of him, ahem, "Sarah Marshall"), and there doesn't seem to be anyone who isn't excited for "The Muppets." He's written and directed the popular puppets' big comeback and will also costar in the sea of googly eyes. If it's half as funny as we expect it to be, Segel may be worshiped by the world.

And we have a feeling she's going to find it.

Vanessa Hudgens will be setting sail with Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson in "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Brendan Fraser-less sequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D" features young Sean (Hutcherson) joining forces with his mom's boyfriend (The Rock!) to find his missing grandfather.

Vanessa will be playing something of a love interest for Hutcherson as they battle the torrid elements and horrific beasties. Perhaps she'll even burst into song at some point.

The Hudge's career has been quite a "Journey" itself, going from "High School Musical" star to island-exploring hottie. And 2011 is shaping up to be quite a year for her, as she'll also be appearing in Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch" (as a character named Blondie -- that's probably meant to be ironic in a cool ironic way) and as the lovestruck Lindy in the much-delayed "Beastly."

"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" will begin shooting in late October in North Carolina and Hawaii. The film opens Sept. 23, 2011.
