'The Grand Budapest Hotel' Trailer: Just a Man and His Lobby Boy

Oh, how Wes Anderson does thrill and bewilder at the very same time.

On the one hand, the ultra wry, witty and more importantly original writing-directing style of the "Moonrise Kingdom" and "The Royal Tenenbaums" mastermind is like a homing device for Hollywood's top tier talent (this time, including Ralph FiennesBill MurrayEdward NortonSaoirse RonanTilda SwintonWillem Dafoe and Jason Schwartzman, among many others). But on the other, let's be honest. You've gotta be pretty with it to make heads or tails of what's happening half the time lest you miss out on some super hip joke or innuendo.

Not to worry, though. With "The Grand Budapest Hotel," the first trailer for which has been revealed today, things seem fairly straightforward. Get More »

Let's Talk About 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'

If there's one filmmaker who's managed to steer fully clear of the Hollywood plot recycling bin it's Wes Anderson. That guy's movies are almost always original, thoughtful and delightfully odd. For his next picture, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," he's employed a cavalcade of thespian players while still managing to keep most of the film's plot details at an absolutely maddening minimum ... until now, that is.

Thanks in part to some excellent detective work by the crew at Indie Wire, we've now pieced together enough information to think about making a reservation at the "Budapest Hotel." Get More »

Casting Roundup: Weisz, Wiig and Moretz Get the Gigs

Rachel Weisz Getty Images

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

• No one can make a "hard sell" movie (with A-list stars, anyway) quite like David Cronenberg. Rachel Weisz will be working with the "Cosmopolis" director and his two favorite leading men, Robert Pattinson and Viggo Mortensen, on "Map to the Stars," an extremist look at how there's no business like show business.

• We certainly have trouble telling Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader apart. Variety reports that the "Adventureland" buddies will play siblings in "The Skeleton Twins," the story of, well, twin siblings who manage to defy death on the same day and as a result take a long, hard look at their lives.

• "Dark Shadows" reunion! Michelle Pfeiffer and Chloe Moretz have signed on for "Man Under," director Tim Robbins' dysfunctional family comedy that probably won't involve vampires. Get More »

Saoirse Ronan Books 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'

Saoirse Ronan: From a "Host" to a guest.

A guest of "The Grand Budapest Hotel," that is, as Variety brings word that the young Irish actress has signed on (in?) to play the female lead in Wes Anderson's latest comedy of manners.

Plot details on the film are being kept under wraps, though the IMDB claims it's a chronicle of the troubles and tribulations of Mr. Gustave (to be played by Ralph Fiennes, again according to the IMDB), who serves as the hotel's perfectly composed concierge.

Take that with a grain of salt for now, though Anderson himself has gone on record to say that the film is set 85 years ago in a Hungarian hotel (it's not a "trick" title) and is partly inspired by the witty films of Billy Wilder and Ernst Lubitsch. Get More »

Casting Roundup: McGregor, Cruz and Yelchin Get the Gigs

Ewan McGregor Getty Images

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

Ewan McGregor is looking to play the bad guy again, following his sleazy turn earlier this year in "Haywire." Deadline reports that the "Trainspotting" star is set to star in "Son of a Gun," an Australia crime thriller that chronicles the complex relationship between a notorious criminal (McGregor) and his young protege. That's not all for McGregor — he'll also be joining Kate Hudson for the showbiz comedy, "Born to Be King," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Penelope Cruz is going to teach us about clothes ... and murder! The "Bandidas" beauty is in talks to star in "Gucci," a drama about the Italian family behind the legendary clothing brand in which she would play Patrizia Reggiani, who was jailed for 29 years for allegedly ordering the 1995 murder of her ex-husband and heir to the family empire, Maurizio Gucci. Casting Roundup: Franco, Williams and Affleck Get the Gigs

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

• James Franco continues to provide evidence that he lives in a world where there are more than 24 hours in a day. According to Deadline, the crazy busy thespian has added "The Grace That Keeps This World" to his insane schedule, a family drama co-starring Brit Marling and Glenn Close that follows a father and his sons as they prepare for the upcoming hunting season.

• Michelle Williams, whom we haven't seen on the big screen since "My Week With Marilyn," is in talks to star in "Suite Francaise" for English director Saul Dibb ("The Duchess"). Williams would be playing, according to Variety, "a spirited young woman in occupied France who falls for a German officer and must choose between love and her country." She'll probably find a way to choose both.

• The con is on with Ben Affleck! Deadline reports that the "Argo" man is in talks to star in "Focus," the tale of a grifter who falls in love with a female up-and-comer — a recipe for heartbreak when one's in the business of cheating and lying. Get More »

Bill Murray Books a Role at 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'

Bill Murray is the Johnny Depp to Wes Anderson's Tim Burton (even though Johnny Depp himself might now be the Johnny Depp to Wes Anderson's Wes Anderson).

This should come as no surprise to anyone, but Murray has confirmed that he's involved in Anderson's latest bit of cinematic whimsy, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," according to an interview with Vulture. Get More »
