If there was ever a more ambitious film than "The Butler," we have yet to discover it.
"Precious" director Lee Daniels efforts to recapitulate — through the real-life eyes of a lone, stolid White House butler — pretty much the entire twentieth century as it related to the American Civil Rights Movement. With a cast list that reads like a flat-out roll call for the Walk of Fame, Daniels presents the working life of Cecil Gaines (real name: Eugene Allen), a man who served eight consecutive U.S. presidents during his career and witnessed history being made first-hand.

Before Lenny Kravitz landed the role of Nurse John in the Oscar-winning 2009 film "Precious," directed by Lee Daniels, his film credentials were mostly comprised of soundtrack selections.
Now, he's a big star in "The Hunger Games," but for his next job, he's going back to his film roots and re-teaming with Lee Daniels for his next biopic piece "The Butler."

The former "Cabin"-dweller is about to get political as he's in talks to join the ensemble of Lee Daniels' historical drama, "The Butler," according to Deadline.

Oprah Winfrey is considering a return to the big screen.
The talk show superstar and longtime producer is mulling over an offer to work with "Precious" director Lee Daniels as part of the cast of the true-life historical drama, "The Butler," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"The Butler" tells the story of Eugene Allen, a black man who started at the White House as a "pantry man" in 1952. He ended up serving eight presidents from 1952 to 1986, having a unique front-row seat as political and racial history was made, from the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr., John F.
