This summer's biggest heat wave was met with a cinematic cold snap at the box office, as according to Film.com, fans looking to escape the high temperatures made "Ice Age: Continental Drift" the number one film of the weekend with a $46 million opening.

That was enough to knock everyone's friendly neighborhood wall-crawler back into second place, with "The Amazing Spider-Man" taking in a respectable $35 million in its second weekend to inch over the $200 million mark.

Post-'Spider-Man' Life Is All Good For Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst

Columbia

With "The Amazing Spider-Man" setting new records and tearing up the box office, you might be wondering what the stars of the last "Spider-Man" trilogy are doing these days. Does Tobey Maguire regret hanging up his tights? Are he and Kirsten Dunst sitting in a darkened room, watching their old movies on DVD and eating buckets of ice cream to console themselves over missed opportunities?

Does one of them have a voodoo doll of Andrew Garfield's hair?

Well, actually, not so much, as the couple that shared that famous upside-down onscreen kiss in "Spider-Man" now share another milestone: They both got cast in brand new films today.

Looks like the post-"Spider-Man" life is treating Maguire and Dunst just fine, thanks very much. Get More »

"The Amazing Spider-Man"
Columbia Pictures

The numbers are in and "The Amazing Spider-Man" is a hit.

(Note, I am writing this about a week before "The Amazing Spider-Man" opens but, call me crazy, I'm pretty sure I'm making a correct assumption here.)

Now that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have thwipped their way into our hearts, what's next for Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, New York City and that dude who stood in the shadows and said menacing things to Dr. Curt Connors?

Only time will tell, but, just in case the film's chief producers are reading (oh, who'm I kidding, they get a text every time I blow my nose) I've got five basic suggestions for the "Amazing Spider-Man" sequel. Get More »
