UPDATE (6/25/13): We totally called it. "Bad parenting" bad schmarenting... "Taken 3" is happening, and Liam Neeson's oh-so-special skill set is definitely making loot off this unlikely franchise.
PREVIOUSLY (2/28/13): Last fall, Liam Neeson returned to cinemas with "Taken 2" and fans flocked to the theaters to find out one thing: Exactly how on Earth did Neeson's badass agent Bryan Mills manage to let his daughter get kidnapped a second time? Seriously, what happened to those special skills of his?
Well, it looks like Neeson himself was thinking the same thing, because in an interview with a Dublin radio station, he revealed that there won't be a "Taken 3" for the simple reason that it would be really dumb. Get More »
This week: The former CIA agent played by Liam Neeson is the one who ends up being abducted instead of his daughter in "Taken 2," the hit action sequel that also features the return of Maggie Grace as Neeson's daughter and Famke Janssen as his ex-wife in a story that moves the action to Istanbul.
Maggie Grace is trouble. And we like that.
Maggie was stranded on a deserted island (and later "voted off," so to speak) on "Lost," haunted by an evil mist in "The Fog," kidnapped and sold into sex slavery (or at least drugged-up dancing) in "Taken" and taken hostage during a riot on a prison spaceship in "Lockout." And she looked really, really good in every single scenario.
Now Maggie's causing all sorts of drama (and war and death, perhaps) for the Cullen clan in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2." Check out our collection of pics of this troubled young lady looking hot (and often bothered) throughout the years in movies, television and on the red carpet.
Liam Neeson has officially come down with a severe case of Bieber Fever. And we're loving it.
Last month, the actor joined Justin Bieber on UK talk show "The Jonathon Ross Show,"and gave the world an unexpected but epic reading of Bieber's hit "Boyfriend."
Neeson was on the show to discuss the recent box office success of "Taken 2," but there's no way his movie could top this dramatic Bieber remix.
Is there nothing Neeson can't do? "3...2... swag." Get More »
"Taken 2" held off a crowded field of new movies to retain its box office crown, as according to Film.com the Liam Neeson revenge fantasy earned a solid $22.5 million.
That was just enough to take out Ben Affleck's critically acclaimed thriller "Argo" ($20.1 million) and Ethan Hawke's creepy horror show "Sinister" ($18.3 million). Kevin James' MMA comedy "Here Comes the Boom," meanwhile, got caught in its own chokehold and managed just $12 million for a fifth place debut.
For a full rundown of the weekend box office, including figures for new releases "Seven Psychopaths" and "Atlas Shrugged Part 2" as well as returning hits "Hotel Transylvania" and "Pitch Perfect," head to Film.com.
What exactly would you get if you took the intensity of "Taken 2" and merged it with the all-out action of "The Expendables 2?" Mayhem? Slaughter? A death toll bigger the the population of many European nations?
All of those seem like reasonable guesses, but thanks to "Saturday Night Live," we now know the real answer: Complete and utter hilarity. Get More »
Liam Neeson's international revenge thriller "Taken 2" punched the competition right in the face this weekend, debuting with an impressive $50 million according to Film.com. That was nearly double the amount earned by second place finisher "Hotel Transylvania" ($26.3 million) and more than double the amount earned by the first "Taken" in its 2009 debut ($24 million).
Not everyone had a great weekend, though, as Tim Burton's animated labor of love "Frankenweenie" brought in just $11.5 million, finishing in fifth place and continuing Burton's recent box office slump.
For a full run down of this week's box office, including numbers for "Looper" and the word of mouth sensation "Pitch Perfect," head to Film.com.
"I just remember the gut feeling of watching 'Ben-Hur' on that big Cinemascope screen. That chariot races still hold up — it's unbelievably exciting. 'The Phantom Menace' had a chariot race, didn't it? But that was all CGI. Not in 1959 when they did 'Ben-Hur.'"
Liam Neeson has been one of Hollywood's most sympathetic leading men for over three decades, having headlined such diverse films as "The Grey," "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace," "Kinsey," and Best Picture-winner "Schindler’s List." He reprises his role as the deadly capable Bryan Mills in this week's "Taken 2."
In 2008's smash hit "Taken," Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) had to rescue his daughter, but, in "Taken 2," it's him who gets snatched up, and his one-and-only pride and joy Kim (Maggie Grace) has to get dad out of trouble.
Of course, Neeson gets more than his fair share of opportunities to tear a bunch of Albanian mafiosi a new a**hole, and show off some cunning tricks of the trade he didn't get to display on his first merry-go-round. Get More »
Liam Neeson has played thoughtful and sensitive in movies like "Kinsey," or romantic in "Love Actually," but we love him best when he's slinging swords or kicking butt.
Since he's reprising his role of ex-CIA man Bryan Mills in this week's rip-roaring sequel "Taken 2," we thought we'd refresh your memory on just how big of a badass this 60-year-old Irishman really is before you watch him blow away Albanians for two hours. Get More »
