Garrett Hedlund is many things: the leading man in the rebooted sci-fi franchise "TRON", a honky-tonk love interest in "Country Strong" and "Georgia Rule," and now an indie wild child, playing Dean in the long-awaited film adaptation of "On the Road."
Hedlund's path to "On the Road" wasn't an easy one: He's been attached to the project for five years, and the movie has been in Hollywood purgatory for even longer, with a paper trail leading back to the 1950s, when author Jack Kerouac first floated the idea of an adaptation of his novel. This Friday, U.S. audiences will finally get the chance to see this new side of him (and, as a bonus, they'll get to see his naked side).
Hedlund caught up with NextMovie in New York ahead of the film's release, and talked "Twilight," getting intimate with Steve Buscemi, and how, exactly, to crack open a Benzadrine inhaler. Get More »
It must be Fall! School's finally in session, the weather is getting ever slightly cooler and the offerings at your local movie theater change from big-budget popcorn fare to serious potential award winners.
This autumn the studios have a wide array of noteworthy films to put on your must-see list, from art-house Oscar contenders to teen ensembles and much-anticipated literary and musical adaptations.
We're celebrating the start of Fall with 15 actors who are going to blow audiences away this season. Some have been around for a few years but have yet to break out and others are lucky enough to have their first major roles in buzzworthy movies.
It's been thirty years in the making, but Walter Salles' film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's iconic novel, "On the Road" is finally (almost) here. In anticipation of this Cannes favorite (where it premiered earlier this spring), a brand new trailer has surfaced that gives us the most in-depth preview of the star-studded film yet.
Like the book, the movie follows Sal Paradise (a character played by Sam Riley and based on Kerouac himself), Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund) and Dean's 16-year-old bride, Marylou (Kristen Stewart) as they set off on a cross-country road trip from New York to California in search of their version of the American dream, which seems to involve dancing, hitchhiking and disappointing their parents. How do you know you've officially become the next Hollywood "it" girl? Easy. Get yourself cast as the younger Angelina Jolie in a sure-to-be blockbuster Disney film.
That's exactly what India Eisley has done. "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" star is set to play the more youthful version of Jolie's lead character in "Maleficent," a live-action retelling of "Sleeping Beauty."
Eisley joins a bevy of other stars newly signed on, including Sam Riley ("On the Road"), Lesley Manville ("Another Year") and Kenneth Cranham ("Layer Cake") in this Robert Stromberg-directed reboot of the classic fairytale, the Hollywood Wiretap reports. Get More »
It's good to finally feel the beat of "On the Road."
The film adaptation of what many consider to be the defining work of the Beat Generation has been a long time coming (30 years worth of development hell, in fact), and now we have the first look at director Walter Salles' cinematic translation of Jack Kerouac's (mostly) autobiographical novel. You've heard of reboots and remakes. But how often have you heard of a guy remaking his own movie?
Well, that's just what director Géla Babluani has done -- and the new trailer for "13" shows that remaking your own movies is a bit like Russian roulette. Even if you win, you probably crapped yourself. Get More »
