Box Office Report: 'Evil Dead' Hacks Up the Competition
It was a knock down, drag out battle at the box office this weekend, but when the smoke cleared it was "Evil Dead" taking the box office, as Fede Alvarez's remake of Sam Raimi's horror classic earned an estimated $26 million according to Film.com.
That was just enough to top "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "The Croods," each of which earned $21.1 million. "Jurassic Park 3D," meanwhile, was a close fourth, bringing in $18.2 million. And for those keeping track, Stephanie Meyer's "The Host" dropped all the way down to eighth place with just $5.2 million, further cementing its status as a massive disappointment.

The 10 Best Tributes to 'The Evil Dead'
Geekologie
Once upon a time, a group of college kids journeyed deep into the woods with a camera, a few bucks, a ton of fake blood and enough creativity and general filmmaking chutzpah to fill a dozen movies. The result was "The Evil Dead," a DIY horror masterpiece and cult phenomenon.
Director Sam Raimi's feature film debut has since spawned merchandise, costumes and even a stage musical over its 30-year legacy. Upon the release of the big-budget remake, itself affectionately titled "Evil Dead," here are some of the best — or should we say grooviest — "Evil Dead" tributes out there. Get More »
'Army of Darkness 2:' Sam Raimi Gives Us Some Sugar, Baby
Universal
Sam Raimi has a lot of juice going on right now (that's a highly technical industry term meaning he can do just about any damn thing he wants) thanks to the success of "Oz the Great and Powerful" and the critical acclaim being lauded on the SXSW premiere of the new "Evil Dead" remake he produced.
So when word came out a couple weeks ago that he was thinking about doing "Evil Dead 4" everyone just nodded and played along even though having to different ongoing versions of the same franchise would be about the most confusing thing that ever happened.
But listen up, you primitive screwheads: According to Coming Soon, the script Raimi is working on isn't really "Evil Dead 4" — it's actually "Army of Darkness 2." Did we just blow your mind?! Get More »
'Oz' Sequel Won't Feature Dorothy and Sam Raimi Won't Direct
Disney
Even before the opening weekend loot totals for "Oz the Great and Powerful" came along, Disney had been readying a follow-up, with "Oz" co-writer Mitchell Kapner rapidly scrawling the next step for the Good Witch Glinda and Co.
Since "Oz" itself was a prequel to the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz," one might've suspected movie two to include Miss Kansas herself, Dorothy, and those three needy pals of hers, but not so.
Nope, producer Joe Roth has assured that the "Oz" sequel "would absolutely not" involve Dorothy and her little Yellow Brick Road-wandering ventures, but instead it'll take place before those events. Get More »
7 'Wizard of Oz' Easter Eggs Hidden In 'Oz the Great and Powerful'
Disney
The tagline for "Oz the Great and Powerful" may be "The land you know, the story you don't," but that doesn't mean everything about the prequel is unfamiliar from the 1939 "The Wizard of Oz." Though Disney was unable to use many of the specific references from the classic flick due to copyright laws — sorry, no ruby slippers here — "Oz" enthusiasts need not fear. The new movie has Easter eggs galore for fans of the original Dorothy Garland film, if only you know where to look.
Ahead, seven "The Wizard of Oz" Easter eggs buried in "Oz the Great and Powerful."

Disney Already Preparing Sequel to 'Oz the Great and Powerful'
Disney
"Oz the Great and Powerful" is just arriving in theaters today, but according to Variety, that hasn't stopped the always optimistic Disney from already preparing a sequel, as"Oz the Great and Powerful's" co-writer Mitchell Kapner has apparently been hard at work on a script for months now.
Hey Disney, we know just what you can call the sequel: "The Wizard of Oz."

So Is It Finally Time For 'Evil Dead 4'?
Universal
We've heard this before. But it's always nice to hear it.
Sam Raimi can't go anywhere without being asked about if and when there's ever going to be a fourth "Evil Dead" movie. Now, 20 years after the release of the third installment, "Army of Darkness" (and mere weeks away from the release of the "Evil Dead" remake), it looks like there's at least the desire to go forward with such an endeavor. Sam Raimi Refuses to Watch 'The Amazing Spider-Man'
Columbia Pictures
Director Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy was one of the most popular and lucrative series in film history, so it's safe to say that they hold a special place in the director's heart. And that's just compounded by the fact that he didn't actually want to quit the series. So needless to say, his feelings about last year's franchise reboot, "The Amazing Spider-Man," are... complex.
Complex enough that Raimi refuses to even watch it. Get More »
