'The Butler' Trailer is Here to Serve You

If there was ever a more ambitious film than "The Butler," we have yet to discover it.

"Precious" director Lee Daniels efforts to recapitulate — through the real-life eyes of a lone, stolid White House butler — pretty much the entire twentieth century as it related to the American Civil Rights Movement. With a cast list that reads like a flat-out roll call for the Walk of Fame, Daniels presents the working life of Cecil Gaines (real name: Eugene Allen), a man who served eight consecutive U.S. presidents during his career and witnessed history being made first-hand.

The first trailer for "The Butler" has now been released, and boy oh boy are we impressed with all the acute caricaturing going down here ... and all the feels we feel. Get More »

'Monty Python' Returns … with Aliens … and Robin Williams

BBC

As the old adage goes, you can never have too much "Monty Python." (OK, so maybe it's not a proper adage, per se, but that doesn't make it any less true.) Which is why we were pretty jazzed to hear that there's a new Python flick in the works. Pause for a moment of silent reflection.

So what is this next installment all about anyway? Aliens. Duh. The film will be a science fiction story in which the Pythons play extra-terrestrials who grant wishes to humans… just to see what happens. What could go wrong?

Oh, also: comedy genius Robin Williams has signed on to play a talking dog. Get More »

Ellen Page Getty Images

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

Ellen Page will be starring in "Into the Forest," the story of two teenage sisters living in rural Northern California as society seems to decay and collapse around them. As if that should alarm the girl who saw buildings fold in on themselves and stuff in "Inception." [The Playlist]

• Another thesp is packing his bags for "Sin City." Josh Brolin, who appeared in director Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror," will be playing the central role of Dwight (played by Clive Owen in the original film) in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For." Now how about some casting news on the film's femme fatale, Ava Lord, already? [MovieWeb] Get More »

The 9 Fugliest Men in Drag (in Movies)

Throughout the ages, comedians with the sharpest of wits and highest of brows have sought to expand our minds and tickle our funny bones by strapping on fake boobs and speaking in falsetto. Sure, it might seem cheap, childish and subtly sexists, but who cares? Based on the box office receipts, we can't get enough of it!

Now Sean Penn is getting serious about dressing in drag for "This Must Be the Place" (in theaters Nov. 2). But can he activate our drag gag reflexes as thoroughly as those faux femmes from bygone days? Let's review the fugly competition.

The Top 50 Music Videos Featuring Movie Stars

Kristen Stewart Music Video
MSN
Ever since Michael Jackson and John Landis unleashed "Thriller" in 1983, shaming all that preceded it, the music video has become an art form within itself. It can be a launching pad for your career (Alicia Silverstone), a favor to a boyfriend (Courteney Cox, Evan Rachel Wood), or a way to begin rebuilding a thousand burned bridges (Mickey Rourke).

With the MTV Video Music Awards hitting MTV tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET, we've compiled a list of the 50 best based on a number of factors: creativity of video, quality of actor's performance and, for some, random dancing ability. Our only caveats: no cameos and no soundtracks. The debate begins now. Get More »

Trailer: A Bunch of Big Stars Have a 'Big Wedding' to Attend

The Big Wedding Lionsgate

You can pretty much always tell a good rom-com from a bad rom-com just by looking at the cast. After all, most of these things have some preposterous plot contrivance and then a bunch of life lessons, so it's not the story that's going to make a film original, it's the performances.

And that being the case, you really should check out the new trailer for "The Big Wedding," because it has a rom-com cast to absolutely die for. Get More »

13 Movie Dads We Wish Were Ours

The Pursuit of Happyness
Sony

Dads are good guys. They put together our complicated toys, they taught us to drive, and they took us camping. But we've always considered him to be a total dork, or the big bad guy who Mom would call on to deliver the harshest punishments.

We wanted a father who was more like ones in movies. Why didn't we have a dad who built a magical baseball field, was fabulously wealthy, and who greeted crises with jokes, hugs, or lethal force instead of groundings?

We know our dads were cool, always there for us, and making us better people. We love them dearly. But in honor of Father's Day, here are 13 movie dads we still find ourselves admiring for their humor, cuddliness, special talents, and in some cases, bank vaults full of money. Get More »

Behold the Terror of ... 'Mrs. Doubtfire?!'

20th Century Fox

The premise is downright creepy: A recently divorced husband decides to watch over his children first hand by infiltrating his ex-wife's household in the disguise of a female nanny. Then he begins plotting his revenge from within their very home, all while pretending to be their loving, caring mentor. It's sick.

And as you may have recognized, it's also the plot of the classic robin Williams comedy "Mrs. Doubtfire" — which has now been re-imagined as the horror film it was always meant to be. Thanks, internet! Get More »

15 Beards That Steal Movies

The Dictator
Paramount

Sacha Baron Cohen brings his trademark ridicu-shock humor to his new film "The Dictator," but it may be his beard that steals the show.

He plays Admiral General Aladeen, deposed dictator of the (fictional) Republic of Wadiya, who flees to the U.S. when his country converts to democracy. As a dictator, he's used to ruling with an iron fist, an incorrigible sense of righteous cruelty, and a thick, bushy beard that could house several terrified baby sparrows.

Aladeen may feel like a fish out of water in New York City, but he'd feel right at home among Hollywood's most magnificent beards of all time. Here's our ode to the  greatest facial hair in movies, in 15 parts.
