This week: Ang Lee's "Life of Pi," a spiritual survival tale about a boy and a tiger lost at sea on a lifeboat, took home more Oscars (four) than any other movie this year, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score.
Also new this week is the making-of-"Psycho" biopic "Hitchcock" starring Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren, the animated kids' flick "Rise of the Guardians" and the sobering dramedy "Smashed" with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul. Get More »
A full month after its debut, Daniel Craig's latest action packed James Bond movie, "Skyfall," returned to the top of the box office charts this weekend, bringing in an estimated $11 million according to Film.com.
The only major new release, Gerard Butler's soccer romcom "Playing For Keeps," crashed and burned, debuting in a dismal sixth place with only $6 million. That opened the door for returning hits "Rise of the Guardians" ($10.5 million), "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" ($9.2 million) and "Lincoln" ($9.1 million) to remain in the top five.

Forget "The Avengers," because Dreamworks Animation has the year's REAL event team-up movie. All of the most famous pagan aspects of the holidays are combined into one rollicking adventure in "Rise of the Guardians."
As seen in the new debut trailer at Apple Trailers, this amazing looking fable presupposes that childhood icons like Santa, Easter Bunny, Sandman and the Tooth Fairy not only exist but occasionally form an elite squadron to destroy evil, in this case Pitch, the Nightmare King (a.k.a. The Boogeyman) voiced by Jude Law. Alec Baldwin leads this A-Team — or should that be H-Team? — as a European accented St. Nick, Hugh Jackman goes from wolverine to bunny, Isla Fisher as a toothsome Fairy and Chris Pine as a jolly Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Santa Claus is real... and he's going to kick the Boogeyman's ass.
That's the premise, more or less, of DreamWorks Animation's latest project, "Rise of the Guardians," an epic 3D adventure based on "The Guardians of Childhood," an upcoming series of children's books by William Joyce.
David Lindsay-Abaire adapted the screenplay, which follows a group of childhood legends and heroes who join forces to stop an evil spirit named Pitch from taking over the world, according to Variety. Get More »
