All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...
• Well, he's not going to be in Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel," but maybe Johnny Depp will be in Wally Pfister's "Transcendence." Deadline reports that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star is in talks to join the feature directorial debut of Christopher Nolan's go-to cinematographer ... the plot of which is, of course, being kept under wraps.
• You know, Bradley Cooper is just about as perfect for a Cameron Crowe movie as, oh, Emma Stone. The "Hangover" star is set to make his already ultra-busy schedule even busier as he's in talks to join the "Amazing Spider-Man" beauty in Crowe's untitled romantic comedy, which is said to be in the vein of "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous." After Tobey Maguire took us for "the ultimate spin" three times as New York's #1 web slinger he, well, quit, and faster than you can say "reboot" producers snagged "The Social Network" heartthrob Andrew Garfield to give "The Amazing Spider-Man" a touch of British class.
Starting over with Peter Parker back in high school, he's crushing on brainy blonde Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), discovering his powers, learning the secrets of his parents, and battling Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) as he goes from harmless scientist to not-so-harmless Lizard. Get More »
Look out — here comes the "Spider-Man!"
Hollywood filled in for Forest Hills, Queens as Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans and other comic book movie stars walked the red carpet in celebration of the new wall-crawler adventure, "The Amazing Spider-Man." Somewhat unfortunately, Garfield and Ifans behaved themselves and didn't break into an impromptu Spidey-Lizard battle for the amusement of their fellow attendees.

With "The Avengers" crushing the box office and fans breathlessly awaiting the final installment of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy, this year is shaping up to be the best ever for fans of superhero comics.
But there's a third superhero film ready to make waves this summer — and if this brand new behind-the-scenes clip is any indication, "The Amazing Spider-Man" isn't going to take a back seat to anything.
Sorry, Loki and Bane. But this year, the scales are tipped towards The Lizard.

It's one of the fundamental laws of modern movie making: A superhero film is only as good as its villain. "The Dark Knight'"s Joker? Great. "Thor'"s Loki? Good. "Green Lantern's" grumpy space smog? Yeah, not so much.
And "The Amazing Spider-Man'"s version of The Lizard? Well, now we finally have the first photos of him — and he looks pretty darn cool. Get More »

Rhys Ifans is about to yell "Timber!"
The "Amazing Spider-Man" villain will be trading the streets (and, presumably, the sewers) of New York City for the mountains of North Carolina in "Serena," according to Variety.
"Serena" takes place in 1929 North Carolina, where young newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton (Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence) look to build their timber empire. Their ruthless rise to power takes a sudden turn when Serena finds she can't bear children, which prompts her to embark on a deadly vendetta against her husband's illegitimate son.
The film is based on the 2008 novel by Ron Rash and was originally being circled by Angelina Jolie and "Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky. Get More »
For years now the sub-industry of movie merchandizing - which secretly makes more money than the actual movies – has been ruining character reveals for us all via advanced looks at toys, packaging, video games, etc.
Now, thanks to our buddy the internet, we're getting our first glimpse at one of the most anticipated summer movie villains of 2012: THE LIZARD from "The Amazing Spider-Man." Unfortunately, it's in the form of a PEZ dispenser.
ComingSoon posted the landmark image, which also features the Spidey tie-in next to Dr. Curt Connors' mutated alter ego. Lizards are already kinda gross, but having to eat chalky candy from its neck is a bit much. Get More »
Security at the San Diego Comic-Con has felt the wrath of The Lizard.
Rhys Ifans, who plays the scaly villain in next summer's "The Amazing Spider-Man," got a bit unruly right before he took the stage in Hall H for the "Spider-Man" panel on Friday.
Ifans became irate when a member of his entourage was denied access to the convention due to a lack of proper credentials (if you don't have a badge, you don't get in, no exceptions!). He was allowed to participate in the panel but immediately after was arrested and cited for misdemeanor battery for shoving a female security guard.
"He was aggressive and belligerent," Lt. Andra Brown said of the Welsh actor. "He was... berating everyone from the security staff to the United States of America." Get More »
