As soon as Patton Oswalt opened his mouth that day of production on "Parks and Recreation," you knew this would happen. So did I. So did your mom. Ask her. I'll wait.

...

See? I told you! This is why the internet's great. That rhymed.

Indeed, some anonymous cartoonist/video editor that you will never know made an animated version of Patton Oswalt's filibuster-inspired plot for "Star Wars: Episode VII," and the magic that existed only in our minds from Oswalt's dramatic narration of the film now exists forever on the internet as an eight-minute video. This is the world we live in now. Think about these types of things the next time you're nostalgic for the past, and boom it's 2013 again.

Even the random shouts from Amy Poehler (as Leslie Knope) made the video as comic book-esque dialogue bubbles that appear out of nowhere over various characters' heads, which is awkward, but it's the thought that counts. The editor also chose some weird snapshots of the characters mentioned at various times, which, ok, sure. The editor also depressingly features the oldest possible shot of Harrison Ford he can find, which kind of ruins the vibe. The editor...

YOU KNOW WHAT, sorry, it's still wonderful. Enjoy.

If Disney is really going to release a new "Star Wars" movie every year, they're going to need ideas ... lots of ideas.

If Disney is really going to release a new "Star Wars" movie every year, they're going to need ideas ... lots of ideas. Luckily, Patton Oswalt is here to provide enough plot points to fill a dozen movies.

Oswalt recently filmed a guest appearance on NBC's "Parks and Recreation" and was asked by the producers to just go ahead and rant about whatever topics came to mind (which is how most television comedies are "directed" these days). What came to mind was an intricately detailed — and, in many ways, rather brilliant — description of what would make for the perfect "Star Wars: Episode VII." And the new movie can't be limited to just the "Star Wars" galaxy, mind you — the film would have to involve a crossover with "Marvel's The Avengers" and even "Clash of the Titans." Obviously.

J.J. Abrams, Joss Whedon — are you guys listening, or are you just sitting around counting the mountain of cash you sleep on every night and making Shakespeare movies in your back yards with your famous friends? This is brainstorming GOLD, gentlemen!

Watch it. Heed it. Live it.

The inimitable Patton Oswalt stars as the Penguin in this laugh-out-loud (I mean that in a literal way, not in a "standard adjective for funny" way; I laughed out loud while watching it) video from College Humor that co-stars fellow comedian Pete Holmes as the Caped Crusader.

In the video, the Penguin and Commissioner Gordon good-naturedly but futilely attempt to explain to Batman that his "one rule" — that he will not kill people — has actually been broken several times, before ultimately realizing that Batman has no actual grasp of the concept of death. Batman gruesomely kills multiple criminals mid-conversation without realizing that they are dead and not "asleep," which astounds both Gordon and the Penguin. Then things take a turn for the ultra-violent.

I'll stop explaining the joke of the video and let you just watch it yourself, but before you do, understand that after watching it, you're going to want to watch all three Christopher Nolan-directed "Batman" movies and count how many criminals Bruce Wayne actually kills.*

*I counted — it's 278.**
**Just kidding. Ain't nobody got time for that.

There are red band trailers, and then there's the trailer for Todd Rohal's latest, "Nature Calls." Seeing as the R-rated comedy is about a group of—let's just say slightly immature—men who take a group of energetic (and yes, by energetic we do mean wild and hormonal) boy scouts on a camping trip, it's not all that surprising that the trailer is more than a little crass.

With Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle and Patrice O'Neal in the cast line-up, this might be the dirtiest comedy of the year. While it runs just a hair over two-and-a-half minutes, we still lost count of the number of expletives and off-color references.

That said, we're pretty sure we saw Johnny Knoxville being lit on fire and nailed to a cross somewhere in there, and a random chick riding a motorcycle sans clothing. Just sayin'.

Now, if anyone can pull of a flick like this, it's these fools, though based on what we're seeing here, we're not sold just yet. But don't take our word for it, check it out for yourself, courtesy of Collider, and see if "Nature Calls" is calling you into the wild theater. But beware: this trailer is definitely NSFW!

Adam Scott, the geeky quirky heartthrob of "Party Down" and "Parks and Recreation" fame, may be crossing back over to the big screen for Ben Stiller's latest, a remake of the Danny Kaye starrer, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."

If the deal goes through (which we really, really hope it does), Scott would join an A-list cast that already includes Kristen Wiig, Patton Oswalt and Shirley MacLaine, as well as—you guessed it—Ben Stiller himself.

(You thought Stiller might not put himself in the titular role for a movie he's directing? Surely you jest.)

The comedy follows Walter Mitty (the aforementioned Stiller), a meek photo editor whose dreams of adventure come true after some film negatives go missing. According to Cinema Blend, Wiig is set to play a co-worker/ love interest of Mr. Mitty, though none of the other cast-members' roles are known.

In the original, however, Mitty has an overprotective mother breathing down his neck — a part we think seems perfect for MacLaine.

If history repeats itself — as it usually does — Stiller will pretty much run the show, but we're optimistic that he's selecting these talents to showcase their comedic chops. (Stiller, are you listening?)

While there's no word yet on when lensing will begin, now that Scott's on board we hope it starts... yesterday.

The director reteams with his Academy Award-winning "Juno" screenwriter Diablo Cody to bring you Mavis Gary, a character of unrelenting sociopathic narcissism.

Mavis, portrayed by Charlize Theron with ferocious conviction, is a former high school ice queen who returns to her hometown to win back her teenage sweetheart Buddy (Patrick Wilson), despite his being happily married with child.
Anyone who has ever been in high school -- or is currently in high school -- knows all about the unrelentingly awkward interactions that take place when people from different social groups are forced to spend time together. Now, thanks to MTV's brand new exclusive clip from the upcoming comedy "Young Adult" we have proof that when you grow up... well, it's just as horrible as ever.

And we couldn't be happier about it.

That's because "Young Adult" features Charlize Theron and the always magnificent Patton Oswalt as former high school classmates who have an unexpected reunion -- unexpected in everything but its hilarious awkwardness.

Check it out, courtesy of MTV -- and remember all the "fun" of high school:

The team behind "Juno" brings us a very different kind of comedy about the wrong kind of nostalgia

Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody, the director/screenwriter team behind the sunny high school comedy "Juno," have decided to take an excursion into an angry, depressive state of post-adolescence. Unfortunately, their main character Mavis Gary is about a decade too late for it.

Mavis is played by Charlize Theron in the new film "Young Adult" as a hard-boozing writer of teen fiction still fixated on her high school years, particularly old sweetheart Buddy (Patrick Wilson). When she returns to her hometown to find Buddy happily married and with newborn baby, she only sees this as another reason to rescue him from his "tragic life."

Advising this lord of delusion towards her twisted ends is another oddball still living in the past, a sarcastic Patton Oswalt-type played by… Patton Oswalt.

Both Theron and Oswalt have been getting some buzz going into awards season for this pitch-black comedy. With its bleak photography, dreary suburban setting, and what looks to be a borderline psychotic lead performance from the Academy Award-winner, "Young Adult" is shaping up to be the kind of misanthropic opus geared towards those none-too-pleased about getting into the holiday spirit.

Forget to take your meds and check out the trailer below or in HD at Apple.

"Jack Ass" star Johnny Knoxville has abandoned pranks for… the great outdoors? It's true, but it's not what you think.

Knoxville has teamed up with funny man extraordinaire Patton Oswalt (of "United States of Tara" fame) to co-star in an untitled comedy helmed by writer/ director Todd Rohal.

Knoxville and Oswalt will play battling brothers who attempt to honor their ailing father by taking a troop of boys on a camping trip—but (shocker!) it all goes terribly awry.

And we're reasonably confident hilarity ensues.

The squabbling sibs join a cast that also includes Rob Riggle, Maura Tierney, and Patrice O’Neal. Originally coined "Scout Master," the film begins production this week, Deadline reports.

While not many details are known as of yet, with Knoxville and Oswalt on board, this is shaping up to be one potentially traumatizing memorable camping adventure, even if there is no beehive limo involved.

The West Memphis Three have been released, and Hollywood couldn't be happier, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trio was released after being incarcerated for 18 years for the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys who were found next to a creek in the Robin Hood Hills area of West Memphis, Arkansas.

During the initial trial, the prosecution put forth the idea that the only purported motive in the case was that the slayings were part of a Satanic ritual. Damien Echols was sentenced to death, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. was sentenced to life imprisonment plus two 20-year sentences and Jason Baldwin was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The West Memphis Three have been the subject of much speculation and outrage from various organizations and individuals over the years, many referring to it as a "mockery of justice." One of the most popular and credible attacks on the investigation and trial is the pair of documentary films by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, "Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills" (1996) and "Paradise Lost 2: Revelations" (2000).

Now, with the release of the Three, there is much jubilation in Arkansas today... and across the world.

"WestMemphis3 to b freed after 18 yrs!!! 18 yrs of their lives STOLEN from them. Saved by a documentary! Thank u JoeBerlinger & BruceSinofsky," fellow documentary filmmaker Michael Moore tweeted.

"DON'T YOU DARE tell me real news, TMZ," said comedian Rob Delaney after finding out the news from the celebrity website.

Patton Oswalt had urged for the West Memphis Three to be released on Thursday: "West Memphis 3 get surprise hearing. LET THEM GO ALREADY, ARKANSAS."

Meanwhile, Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky's third documentary on the subject, "Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory," will screen at the Toronto Film Festival in September. According to Deadline, the film will be shown with its current ending but Berlinger and Sinofsky plan to include an updated ending to reflect today's events in time for the New York Film Festival in October.

Amidst all the apocalypse panic and speculation sweeping the world, somewhere between the Mayan 2012 peeps and that internet preacher guy that says the world is kaput this coming Saturday, lies Steve Carell. That is to say, the Steve Carell/Keira Knightley indie dramedy "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," where the two stars play neighbors trying to find his childhood sweetheart before an asteroid makes mincemeat out of Earth, is amassing many followers (read: co-stars).

The Playlist says Melinda Dillon (a.k.a. hot mom from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"), Melanie Lynskey ("Two and a Half Men" neighbor), genius stand-up turned Pixar rat Patton Oswalt, T.J. Miller (the sarcastic guy in "Cloverfield"), "Human Giant" funnyman Rob Huebel, Connie Britton ("Friday Night Lights"), and Mark Moses (Duck on "Mad Men") have all drank the film's Kool-Aid.

This comes on the heels of our report yesterday that William Peterson, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry, Derek Luke, and Gillian Jacobs had also heard the Gospel of Steve and were climbing onboard his Ark (no, wait, that was "Evan Almighty") to greet the end of days in the first film from "Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist" writer Lorene Scafaria.

So what do all these folks know that we don't? Did Carell leave "The Office" because he'd done enough episodes to reap huge syndication profits, or because he's an ACTUAL prophet come to save us from our wicked ways?

It seems like just yesterday that we were telling you about "Scream 4" star Nico Tortorella joining the cast of "Odd Thomas" (oh wait, it was just yesterday) but that's already old news, because today we've got a real scoop for you: comedian Patton Oswalt is also joining the cast of "Odd Thomas."

Now that does actually sound pretty odd, doesn't it.

Here's the quick rundown in case you've somehow forgotten since yesterday: based on the popular series of books by Dean R. Koontz, "Odd Thomas" is set to star Anton Yelchin ("Star trek") as the titular weirdo, a guy who has the unenviable ability to see evil spirits and whatnot. When a bunch of these nasties gang up on his town, Odd Thomas has to figure out what the static is; Willem Dafoe is in talks to play the helpful sheriff, while Tortorella is in line to portray the not-so-helpful deputy.

So where does Oswalt come in? Well, according to Variety, he'll be playing a supporting character by the name of "Ozzie" Boone, an artist friend of Odd Thomas who helps out with his investigation. And the casting choice may be fate: in the novels, the character's full name is P. Oswald Boone. Coincidence? Or the work of mystical forces?

Filming on "Odd Thomas" is set to begin on May 2 for a 2012 release. And don't worry: you can read about every bit of odd news right here as it happens.

Wait, so "Inception" won a major visual effects award and all they had to do was fold Paris in half? What a cinch!

Guess the sequel's gonna have to up the ante a little -- maybe roll up Amsterdam and put it in a giant poster tube?

THR reports that Christopher Nolan's mindbending sci-fi flick parlayed its peyote-trip visuals and physics-defying fight scenes into a major win at last night's 9th annual Visual Effects Society Awards. It took home four awards, including the top honor of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual-Effects Driven Feature Motion Picture.

This is a terrific coup for the dream-based blockbuster, as almost all previous winners in this category tend to take home the Oscar. It also marks another victory in the path towards more moderate use of Computer Graphics -- many of the film's most outlandish visuals, including the hallway fight sequence, were done practically on gimbals or with models as opposed to a CGI-fest.

Dreamworks' "How to Train Your Dragon" beat out the perceived Oscar frontrunner, Pixar's "Toy Story 3," to collect the Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture award. Could this be a harbinger of things to come? Pixar didn't go home empty handed, though, as their short "Day & Night" took home Best Animated Short.

The proceedings were hosted by "Ratatouille" star Patton Oswalt (whose new book "Zombie Spaceship Wasteland" is hilarious), and the VES gave a special Visionary Award to Nolan as well as honoring 90-year-old stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen (original "Clash of the Titans") with their Lifetime Achievement Award. Go Ray!
