9 Franchises That Need to End Now
Dimension
"Scary Movie 5" opened in theaters this past weekend and if you're like most human beings, you're probably wondering just one thing: Why?
But the fact that Hollywood made yet another "Scary Movie" is really no surprise. After all, most studios believe that while you may not be able to beat a dead horse, you can certainly continue to milk a dead cash cow ... which explains why so many franchises continue to get sequels long after any they've stopped being interesting, fresh or creative. Why make something new when you can make something cheap and derivative instead? Get More »
The 15 Dumbest Horror Movie Characters
Dimension
People in horror movies do the darndest things, don't they? We've all had a "Don't go in there, you idiot!" moment or twelve while watching fright flicks. Horror sure does bring out the stupids.
This counter-intuitive behavior makes it seem like these folks are handing over their lives on a silver platter, so in honor of this weekend's "Evil Dead" let's celebrate the good, the bad and the dumber-than-a-bag-of-hammers of the genre. Appropriately enough, our first entry comes from that franchise. Get More »
50 Upcoming Movie Sequels (Yep, 50)
Universal
Sequels are awesome, plain and simple. Returning to familiar characters and worlds we love is like covering yourself with a warm blanket, although when a sequel is bad it can be like a blanket covered in potato bugs and lice. Studios love sequels because seven times out of ten they open huge, no matter how good they are. Get More »
The 10 Scariest Movies Ever ... According to Their Wikipedia Pages
Warner Bros.
I don't like watching scary movies, because they scare me. The last scary movie I saw in theaters was "The Ring," during which I pretended to receive an inordinate amount of urgent text messages to divert my attention from the movie to my phone. "Ugh, another text message? (laughs in disbelief, shakes head) But I'm trying to watch this movie!" In reality, I received exactly zero text messages during the film. Get More »

Will There Be a 'Paranormal Activity 5'?
Paramount
Oren Peli's original "Paranormal Activity" had a tortured history getting to screens, having premiered at festivals in rough form two years before Paramount released the $15,000 indie to unprecedented success.
As for the nightmarish sequels, things have been a dream, with the studio churning them out annually to a highly appreciative (read: scared out of their wits) audience. With "Paranormal Activity 4" about to make people poop their pampers in theaters across the country, we're asking the inevitable question: Will there be a fivequel? Get More »
Idiot's Guide to the 'Paranormal Activity' Movies
Paramount
The "Paranormal Activity" movies are credited with taking the terror out of art-directed dungeons and dilapidated bathrooms and putting it right smack dab in the middle of our bedrooms. The "Saw" series raised a white flag of surrender after "Paranormal Activity" took most of the Halloween box office dollars in 2009, bringing an end to Jigsaw's legacy and returning us to the land of lo-fi horror. 'Paranormal 4' Will Begin the 'Activity' on Oct. 19
UPDATE: Well, we were off by a week. "Paranormal Activity 4" will actually begin haunting theaters on Friday, Oct. 19, not Friday, Oct. 26 as we originally thought.
That last weekend in October seemed like the logical choice for the latest round of "Activity," but Dimension has already claimed that spot for "Halloween 3D," according to Deadline. This will be the first installment in the rebooted "Halloween" series to actually hit theaters around the holiday it's named after -- Rob Zombie's "Halloween" and "Halloween II" both opened in August (of 2007 and 2009, respectively).
