'The Butler' Trailer is Here to Serve You
If there was ever a more ambitious film than "The Butler," we have yet to discover it.
"Precious" director Lee Daniels efforts to recapitulate — through the real-life eyes of a lone, stolid White House butler — pretty much the entire twentieth century as it related to the American Civil Rights Movement. With a cast list that reads like a flat-out roll call for the Walk of Fame, Daniels presents the working life of Cecil Gaines (real name: Eugene Allen), a man who served eight consecutive U.S. presidents during his career and witnessed history being made first-hand.
The first trailer for "The Butler" has now been released, and boy oh boy are we impressed with all the acute caricaturing going down here ... and all the feels we feel. Get More »
Oprah Winfrey May Join the Staff of 'The Butler'
Oprah Winfrey is considering a return to the big screen.
The talk show superstar and longtime producer is mulling over an offer to work with "Precious" director Lee Daniels as part of the cast of the true-life historical drama, "The Butler," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"The Butler" tells the story of Eugene Allen, a black man who started at the White House as a "pantry man" in 1952. He ended up serving eight presidents from 1952 to 1986, having a unique front-row seat as political and racial history was made, from the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. Get More »
Lady Lovers Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep Take a Third: Oprah Winfrey
After their memorable make-out session last March, Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock must have decided they wanted a little more face time together.
Better yet, they're bringing in the world's most powerful talk show host to make it an even kinkier threesome.
Oprah Winfrey will headline a new comedy in which she will go toe-to-toe with Streep and Bullock, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The currently untitled project will be written and directed by Michael Patrick King, the maestro behind "Sex and the City." Get More »
Confessions of a (Male) Twi-Hard: Tyler Perry's Breaking Dawn Til the Breakadawn
Last week singer/actor Omarion told Next Movie's Breanne L. Heldman that he wants to be cast in "Breaking Dawn" because there are no black folks in "Twilight."
He has obviously overlooked Laurent, played by Kenyan-born actor Edi Gathegi. Plus, there is that one dude in the newborn vampire army (don't remember? See photo demonstration below). That's two black characters -- not too bad for a series based in The Great White Northwest. That may be more than the actual African-American population in the state of Washington. (Sorry, bad joke, I'm well aware that Sir Mix-a-Lot lives in Seattle.)
Omarion does present a strong point though. A more diversified cast would make for a more interesting "Breaking Dawn." Get More »
