BOOM! Goes The White House (in Film)
For those of you who aren't necessarily as sensitive as we are, seeing The White House — the bastion of American freedom — blown to smithereens onscreen can be a real treat. But it's been a common trope in American film for years, which isn't to say that filmmakers are hellbent on turning terrorist attacks into campy fodder, but stranger things have happened. Get More »
9 Foreign Actors Who Do the Worst American Accents
FilmDistrict
People are always complaining about how much Americans suck at doing accents, whether it's Kevin Costner as "Robin Hood" or Keanu Reeves seemingly coming off a heroin addiction in "Bram Stoker's Dracula." And we do suck sometimes, yes.
However, we want to at least even the playing field a little by pointing out some bafflingly bad American accents perpetrated by thesps from overseas. Europe and Australia may have the best acting academies and such, but not every graduate is as versatile as they should be, starting with a certain Gerard Butler from this past weekend's "Olympus Has Fallen." 'The Croods' Cruises to Box Office Victory
Neanderthals may not have known the secret of fire, but they apparently knew how to make crowd-pleasing movies, as according to Film.com, the animated stone age family adventure "The Croods" topped the box office this weekend with an estimated $44.7 million.
And "The Croods" wasn't the only thick-browed example of pre-humanity to do well, as Gerard Butler's "Olympus Has Fallen" also opened strong, bringing in an estimated $30.5 million in its debut.
That left little on the bone for Tina Fey's new comedy "Admission," which bombed out to the tune of only $6.4 million. For a full look at the weekend box office, including the buzzed about limited release "Spring Breakers" and returning champ "Oz the Great and Powerful," head to Film.com.
