There's a certain art to making a great movie trailer. And frankly, hardly anybody seems to have mastered that art.
Indeed, for every halfway-interesting trailer that comes out there are ten more that give away the entire plot, deliver nothing but obvious jokes about farts and crotch punches or are simply a series of incredibly fast jump cuts with weird music playing over them. In short, they are crap. Get More »
If I we were to pick someone to narrate the story of our misbegotten lives, Tom Waits would certainly be in the top five candidates.
Luckily for us, Francis Ford Coppola agrees that the tale of a "bargain basement Stephen King" knee deep in real murder, and little lost ghost-girls, is best expressed by the man who brought us "Chocolate Jesus." Get More »
This is the one we've all been waiting for!
Nothing short of Jason Segel scoring a $30 million budget to shoot a feature film version of the "Dracula with Puppets" opera from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (with Gary Oldman himself voicing the lead) could be sweeter than the "How I Met Your Mother" star co-writing and starring in his very own "Muppets" movie.
Hardcore Muppet fans have been lapping up any and all news from the production ever since it was announced in 2009. Today (via YouTube) we bring you the freshly released (and tricky) teaser trailer for the movie that will bring Gonzo, Fozzie, Kermit, Piggy and the gang to the big screen for the first time in 12 years. Today might be the first time you've heard of "Take Shelter," a psychological thriller starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, but we suspect it won't be the last.
Jeff Nichols' dark film earned rave reviews at Sundance this year and just took home one of the top critic prizes at Cannes. The film has followed up its extensive and triumphant travels with a first trailer. Get More »
When late night funnyman Conan O'Brien took his throne on the "Tonight Show" in June 2009, he made it quite apparent that this was the culmination of all his work in the biz. This was the show he'd been waiting all his life to host.
Six months later, he found himself cancelled.
The catastrophe had quite the impact on the giant, redheaded comedian, and the documentary "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop" pulls back the curtain on the ups anddowns of his post-"Tonight Show" life, showing the funny and emotional sides of O'Brien. Get More »
At long last, some of the smaller films Sundance and SXSW are beginning to trickle out with trailers and release dates for those of us unlucky enough to have stayed home and missed all the fun.
One of these is the dramedy "Terri," which stars John C. Reilly, Jacob Wysocki, Creed Bratton, Bridger Zadina and Olivia Crocicchia. Get More »
Fresh off her gig as the flaxen-haired Baby Doll in the fantasy action flick "Sucker Punch," Emily Browning is taking on another fantasy-based role — only this time the fantasy is someone else's.
The just-posted trailer for "Sleeping Beauty" (which contains some… err… suggestive scenes and is NSFW) gives us the first peek at Browning in this haunting, erotic update on the classic fairy tale. Get More »
A sci-fi franchise about highly intelligent monkeys who enslave humans isn't something you simply cast aside and forget about.
Tim Burton's 2001 "Planet of the Apes" reboot didn't fly with audiences, both financially and critically, so it was back to the drawing boards. What Fox has whipped up for us a decade later looks... well, conceived on a drawing board.
The highly scientific trailer for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" takes us back to a time before primates walked upright and hunted down homo sapien savages with nets and rifles. The good old days, if you will. Get More »
Professional Mixed Martial Arts fighting has been steadily growing in fans and business ever since the UFC started in the '90s. Surprisingly, for being one of the toughest physical competitions in existence, we haven't seen many decent flicks revolving around the sport besides Channing Tatum's came-and-went "Fighting" and David Mamet's "Redbelt" (and by decent, we mean not starring Jean-Claude Van Damme).
Woody Allen's track record in recent years has been spotty. The writer/director pumps out a new film every year and it's caused the quality of the films to go from Oscar-worthy ("Match Point," "Vicky Cristina Barcelona") to forgettably dull ("Scoop," "Whatever Works") in the drop of a hat. When he's on, he's on. When he's off...he can be way, way off.
The trailer for his new film "Midnight in Paris" has premiered on Yahoo and frankly, it could easily go either way. Continuing his European world tour (London, Spain and now France), "Paris" stars Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams as a young couple who travel with McAdams' parents to the French capital to soak up the sights and enjoy themselves.
