Separated at birth? Long-lost twins? Vague coincidence? It's all possible when actors look so alike they could be siblings.

Is that Zachary Quinto, the Chief Science Officer of "Star Trek Into Darkness," running from the horror of "Aftershock"? Ah, no, at second glance, that's actually Quinto's doppelganger, Eli Roth, the man who gave us "Cabin Fever" and shot Hitler full o' holes in "Inglourious Basterds."

Anyway, with "Aftershock" and the new "Trek" being released back-to-back, we figured this was the perfect time to match up our favorite Hollywood doubles as they compete for roles, attention and DNA. It's like looking into a mirror!

If you think your eyes are starting to play tricks on you, think of this like that Olsen Twins movie "It Takes Two," but without Steve Guttenberg.

Leighton Meester & Minka Kelly

Luscious "Gossip Girl" star Meester might be "Country Strong," but she more than met her match in Minka Kelly, who shone on "Friday Night Lights" as the lovely Lyla Garrity. The two of them actually got to face off, "Single White Female"-style, in 2011's horror thriller "The Roommate," when they entered freshman orientation together — but only one came out alive. Easy, ladies!

Logan Marshall-Green & Tom Hardy

After the one-three punch of "Bronson," "Inception" and "Warrior," Tom Hardy was the hunk du jour in Hollywood, but now a nearly identical upstart is nipping at his heels. After treading the boards Off- (and occasionally Off-Off-) Broadway, relative newcomer (and NextFactor highlight) Logan Marshall-Green began wriggling his way to the big time last summer via Ridley Scott's "Prometheus." Of course, Hardy's Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" could probably throat-punch an alien to death with his eyes closed.

Carey Mulligan & Michelle Williams

It's all about the gorgeous swan-like necks. Carey and Michelle could not be more different as actors; the former has an old-school, boisterous lightness while the latter, in both real life and on film, is introspective, reserved, even ethereal. We almost did a double-take in 2011 when Mulligan was seen on screen with Williams' "Blue Valentine" sweetheart Ryan Gosling in "Drive."

Javier Bardem & Jeffrey Dean Morgan

In their signature roles as Anton Chigurh in "No Country For Old Men" and The Comedian in "Watchmen," respectively, Bardem and Morgan pull off striking, bull-in-a-china-shop characters whose moral compasses have long since been flushed down the toilet. Oddly, strewn across their paths of destruction we find very real human fragments to latch onto ... and that's not on the page, it's in the performances. Still, we wouldn't want to run into either of these tough customers in a dark alley.

Josh Duhamel & Timothy Olyphant

These doppelgangers have yet to cross paths on screen, but when they do, it's sure to be electric. Olyphant first captured our attention as the lead in HBO's foulmouthed fan-favorite "Deadwood," then graduated to playing men of dubious intent in flicks like "Live Free or Die Hard." Duhamel is more the average all-American Joe type, playing a soldier for the "Transformers" trilogy and romantic leads in fluff like "Safe Haven." Does the U.S. Marshal on "Justified" need a half-brother?

Teresa Palmer & Kristen Stewart

Palmer has nearly nabbed roles in "Justice League," "Mad Max" and the "Spider-Man" movies, but this talented blonde will forever be in the shadow of her movie duplicate, Kristen Stewart. Despite different hair, they share a shocking resemblance. Palmer may be catching up to Stewart, though, as she recently starred as a human who swoons over a member of the undead (a zombie this time, in "Warm Bodies").

Penélope Cruz & Paz Vega

When you first saw "Spanglish" (if you did at all), you might have been wondering how they decided to pair Penélope Cruz with Adam Sandler, of all people. Well, after careful examination of the credits, turns out it wasn't Cruz at all — *SHOCK* — but another gorgeous Spanish actress, Paz Vega. Only two years apart, these two need to get Pedro Almodóvar to write a movie where they're sisters, pronto. C'mon, Pedro, maybe sisters with a gay transvestite mother, hmm?

Michael Cera & Jesse Eisenberg

When did nerds stop seeking revenge on their jock oppressors and start warring amongst each other? Okay, so technically these two haven't directly engaged in combat, verbal or Thunderdome-style ... but there are still many who believe that when it comes to Cera & Eisenberg, two men enter, one man leaves. Despite the current Jesse-positive climate thanks to that little "The Social Network" movie and the upcoming "Now You See Me," these are both super-young dudes with plenty of awkwardness left to give.

Chris Hemsworth & Chris Pine

Playing father and son in 2009's "Star Trek" may have tipped these two Chrises off that they kinda sorta look alike. Hemsworth made his film debut playing James T. Kirk's ill-fated papa George for a scant few minutes, but it gave him the oomph he needed to impress the Marvel brass to pin him as The God of Freakin' Thunder, "Thor." Pine had to delicately dance around the iconic Shatner characterizations to make the Starship Enterprise his own, but he did, and has been unstoppable ever since.

Pine's pointy-eared shipmate Spock was almost always a lock for Quinto, whom fans immediately pegged as a dead-on lookalike for Leonard Nimoy after he made his name on "Heroes." But Zachary also resembles our favorite bloodthirsty writer-director Eli Roth. When he's not hanging out in cabins or hostels, Roth occasionally moonlights on-screen for pals like Quentin Tarantino, for whom he relished machine-gunning Hitler in "Inglourious Basterds."

Zooey Deschanel & Katy Perry

Now that Katy Perry is acting (she played super-hot Smurfette in "The Smurfs") and divorced from a famous husband, there may literally be nothing that separates her from her big-eyed mirror-image, Zooey Deschanel. Though Perry may be the bigger musical superstar for now, the swoon-worthy "New Girl" has been known to belt it out when she performs as one-half of She & Him, so watch out, Katy.

Alan Cumming & Paul Reubens

And speaking of Smurfs, we finally found two fellas who have come to terms with their lookalike status by agreeing to be in the same movie. In "The Smurfs" Reubens played the gag-gifting Jokey Smurf, while Cumming portrayed the newest character, Gutsy Smurf. Although these were voice-only roles, it was only a matter of time before these two get together for realsies (like they did at the "Pee-Wee" premiere on Broadway). Maybe if the show reopens, Cumming could appear as the depressive younger brother, WeePee Herman, who cries a lot?

If there was ever a more ambitious film than "The Butler," we have yet to discover it.

"Precious" director Lee Daniels efforts to recapitulate — through the real-life eyes of a lone, stolid White House butler — pretty much the entire twentieth century as it related to the American Civil Rights Movement. With a cast list that reads like a flat-out roll call for the Walk of Fame, Daniels presents the working life of Cecil Gaines (real name: Eugene Allen), a man who served eight consecutive U.S. presidents during his career and witnessed history being made first-hand.

The first trailer for "The Butler" has now been released, and boy oh boy are we impressed with all the acute caricaturing going down here ... and all the feels we feel.

Forest Whitaker leads the cast as the apolitical Mr. Gaines, a man whose directive is to ghost around the Capitol without putting in his two cents as the business of the Oval Office is conducted before his very eyes by a string of Commanders in Chief: Robin Williams as Dwight D. Eisenhower, James Marsden as John F. Kennedy, Jr., Liev Shreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan and Orlando Eric Street as Barack Obama.

Rounding out the impressive cast are Oprah Winfrey as Gaines' wife, Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan, Melissa Leo as Mamie Eisenhower, Minka Kelly as Jackie Kennedy, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jesse Williams, Vanessa Redgrave, Mariah Carey (see, we told you there were a ton of names here), Alex Pettyfer as an apparent slave-driver, Lenny Kravitz, David Oyelowo, Nelsan Ellis as Martin Luther King, Jr., and, if you can believe it, several others.

"The Butler" will be serving up some smiles and probably some tears too this Oct. 18.

Before Lenny Kravitz landed the role of Nurse John in the Oscar-winning 2009 film "Precious," directed by Lee Daniels, his film credentials were mostly comprised of soundtrack selections.

Now, he's a big star in "The Hunger Games," but for his next job, he's going back to his film roots and re-teaming with Lee Daniels for his next biopic piece "The Butler."

According to The Film Stage, Kravitz's role in the film is unconfirmed, but the story details the experience of eight-time presidential butler Eugene Allen, who was profiled in the Washington Post.

Allen worked in the White House from 1952-1986 and saw the arc of the Civil Rights movement transpire from within the presidential manor. Daniels calls the picture "ultimately a father-son story with a civil rights backdrop."

Minka Kelly was also recently added to the cast, and she'll portray former First Lady Jackie Kennedy.

Forest Whitaker will lead the picture as the butler, Eugene Allen, and David Oyelowo will portray his son. Oprah Winfrey will portray his wife, while some of the presidential roles will be portrayed by Alan Rickman (Ronald Reagan), Jane Fonda (Nancy Reagan), John Cusack (Richard Nixon), and Matthew McConaughey (John F. Kennedy). Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard round out the heavy and impressive cast for the picture.

Does the new Minka Kelly/Leighton Meester thriller "The Roommate" look like "Fatal Attraction" for the college set?

Yes, and there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, "The Roommate," in which "Gossip Girl" star Meester plays a college student who becomes obsessed with her roommie (Kelly), promises to be another fine entry in the sub-genre of psychological thrillers we actually think of as the "PWF" flick: Psycho White Females.

You know 'em: those crazy movie villainesses who wreak havoc on the men, women and children (and sometimes poor, innocent bunnies) around them, usually on the heels of some brief or imagined love relationship.

In honor of "The Roommate," we're counting down our nine favorite PWFs who've come before them.

9. Erika Christensen, 'Swimfan' (2002)

Fox

"Fatal Attraction" for high schoolers? Check, as Christensen's Madison is a girl who knows what, or rather who, she wants, and will go to any lengths to get him. And if she can't get her man, well, she'll get her man. In this case, it's aspiring swim champ Ben (Jesse Bradford), who cheats on his girlfriend Amy (Shiri Appleby) via a sexy pool romp with Madison. He's immediately remorseful about his infidelity, but not as sorry as he is when the scorned Madison wrecks his car, sets him up to fail a drug test, kills his BFF and frames Ben for it and tries to kill Amy. Yikes.

8. Rebecca De Mornay, 'The Hand That Rocks the Cradle' (1992)

De Mornay's Peyton had been through a tragedy: Her obstetrician husband committed suicide after one of his patients, Claire (Annabella Sciorra), reported him for molesting her during an exam. Peyton lost her hubby, her house, her financial security and, thanks to the stress of the situation, her own pregnancy.

Her rebound plan: to destroy the pregnant Claire and her family, by changing her identity, getting hired as Claire's nanny and slowly turning her fam and friends against her. It doesn't work, of course, but along the way, Peyton does manage to terrorize an elementary school child, frame the family's developmentally disabled handyman (Ernie Hudson) as a pedophile and murder Claire's best friend (Julianne Moore) in a gruesome shattered greenhouse trap that would make "Saw'"s Jigsaw proud.

7. Drew Barrymore, 'Poison Ivy' (1992)

The movie that marked the beginning of Drew Barrymore's comeback also found her playing a very bad bad girl. Trashy teen Ivy (Barrymore) has a miserable family life, but she feels right at home with pal Sylvie (Sara Gilbert), Sylvie's uptight dad Darrel (Tom Skerritt) and Sylvie's sick mother Georgie (Cheryl Ladd). The life that angsty Sylvie rebelled against, in fact, was Ivy's ideal, so she proceeds to seduce Darrel (in an over-the-top, sex on the car hood scene in a rainy forest) and push Georgie off a balcony and make it look like suicide.

6. Jennifer Jason Leigh, 'Single White Female' (1992)

In yet another entry that proves 1992 was a good year to be a PWF on the big screen, Leigh plays Hedy, a shy, lonely woman who seems like the ideal roommate for It Girl Allie (Bridget Fonda), whose heart had just been broken by her cheating boyfriend Sam (Steven Webber). Allie and Hedy forge a sisterly bond, until clingy Hedy wants not just to be like Allie -- right down to copying her hair cut and color and buying the exact same clothes -- but to actually be Allie.

When Hedy's disturbing past is revealed (there was a dead twin involved), she tries to kill Allie and Allie's gay BFF Graham (Peter Friedman), pretends to be Allie while having sex with Sam and then kills him by plunging a stiletto heel into his head. And she wonders why she's still single.

5. Sharon Stone, 'Basic Instinct' (1992)

1992 again! Stone's Catherine Tramell is a bit less overtly psycho than the other PWFs on our list, but she is every bit as violent. The film's opening moments show the sex-and-murder scene that leaves Catherine as the main suspect for San Francisco detective Nick (Michael Douglas) and his partner Gus (George Dzundza). Nick is helplessly attracted to writer Catherine, and a game of cat-and-mouse leaves him guessing about everything about Catherine -- except whether or not she wears underwear, that much is transparent thanks to the infamous leg-crossing scene.

4. Ali Larter, 'Obsessed' (2009)

In a slight twist on the usual PWF/"Fatal Attraction" plot, handsome businessman Derek (Idris Alba) doesn't actually cheat on his wife Sharon (Beyoncé Knowles) with flirty temp Lisa (Larter). But that doesn't squash Lisa's obsession with Derek; it only fuels it, which ultimately leads to a misunderstanding that paints Derek as a philanderer to his wife, his co-workers and a pesky cop after Lisa fakes a suicide attempt. And even after the truth came out, Lisa still breaks into Derek and Sharon's house, briefly kidnapping their son and destroying their bedroom, leading to a final showdown between the two fierce women. You'll never guess who wins.

3. Kathy Bates, 'Misery' (1990)

The word "fan" is a derivation of the word "fanatic," and it has never been more literally applicable than in this fantastic adaptation of Stephen King's short story about the brief relationship between a novelist and his biggest fan. Bates won both an Oscar for her scary, and campy, performance as Annie Wilkes, a woman who rescues and nurses back to health novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) when his car goes off the road during a blizzard while he's visiting Colorado.

Paul has two broken legs, and is cautious, but grateful when he awakens in Annie's house. He's delighted she's a fan of his "Misery" novels, but when he doesn't return her affections, and when she finds out he planned to kill off the heroine of her beloved "Misery" novels, the denim dress-wearin' Annie wigs out, re-break Paul's legs (in the infamous sledgehammer scene), forces him to rewrite the book and then plots their joint demise.  

2. Helena Bonham Carter, 'Harry Potter' Series (2007-2010)

Not your "typical" PWF, sure, but Female Death Eater, aunt to the nasty Draco Malfoy and one of the most loyal cohorts of He Who Must Not Be Named... you know there's going to be some evildoing afoot when all that is part of Bellatrix Lestrange's bio. In "Order of the Phoenix," the first "Potter" movie in which Bellatrix is a major player, she menaces on Voldemort's behalf, and breaks Harry Potter's (Daniel Radcliffe) heart when she kills his godfather (and her own cousin!) Sirius Black (Gary Oldman). She does not get any more sane over the next three installments.

1. Glenn Close, 'Fatal Attraction' (1987)

Paramount

It's the grandmommy of all PWF flicks, not just because Oscar nominee Glenn Close's Alex tries to kill herself after sleeping with married man Dan (Michael Douglas) or because she pours acid on his car when he later rejects her or because she shows up at his apartment and plays nice with his wife Beth (Anne Archer), all the while pretending not to know Dan. Oh, or because she kidnaps his daughter Ellen from school.

No, she might have gotten away with all that, but the number one rule in movieland is that you can't kill an animal and get away with it, so when Alex breaks into Dan's house, takes Ellen's beloved pet bunny from its hutch and leaves it boiling in a pot on the stove, you know her well-deserved death is imminent.
