Ahh, what a difference a sequel makes. Earlier this year, the Hollywood rumor mill was buzzing with news that Overbrook Entertainment (the production co. owned by Will Smith) was working on a sequel for the 2007 hit "I Am Legend," which would feature Smith once again as Robert Neville — despite the fact that things hadn’t turned out so well for him at the end of the original.
No, he wasn't coming back from the dead, though we do kinda love when that happens in the movie-verse. Rather, the powers-that-be explained that technical glitch away by saying "I am Legend 2" wouldn't be a direct sequel, but rather a different story told within the same world. Clever. Get More »
Well, the inevitable finally happened, as a movie managed to knock "The Avengers" out of the top spot at the box office — and that movie was the long-delayed Will Smith blockbuster "Men in Black 3," which earned a so-so $56 million over its opening weekend.
Don't cry too much for "The Avengers," though, because according to Film.com, the Disney/Marvel powerhouse still came in second with an estimated $38 million. That brings its domestic total to an amazing $523.8 million, making it the fastest movie to cross the $500 million mark in Hollywood history.

A cool suit, a killer pair of shades and some sharp shoes are the key touchstones of the agents of "Men in Black III," but that's not the only awesome style being rocked.
Sure, Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones / Josh Brolin) bring it with the business attire, but the ladies — and even the extra-terrestrials! — also know how to keep it cool and sleek while protecting the world. Agent O (Alice Eve) manages to be sexy while completely ladylike and professional, and Lily Poison uses her form-fitting frock and fab sense of accessorizing as a fierce weapon.
As for the aliens? Well, see for yourself as you click through our latest, otherworldly Get the Goods column.
There was nary an alien at the New York City premiere of "Men in Black III" (at least none that we know of — then again, Donald Trump was there, and we've always had a funny feeling about him …). However, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and many more human-types were on hand to protect us from the scum of the universe as they walked the red carpet at the Ziegfeld Theater.
Check out our collection of photos from the premiere and rest easy knowing that the "Men in Black" are back on patrol as of May 25.
Nothing against straight-up actresses, but you know what's super-cool about pop stars doing movies? We get to admire them and their killer I've-spent-half-my-life-dancing-and-sweating bods!
And when we're talking about Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger acting in "Men in Black 3," there's just so much to admire.
Really, we could go on and on, but our Hot People Looking Hot features are all about looking at pics, not reading love letters. Click on, friends.
Director Barry Sonnenfeld returns to the popular sci-fi comedy franchise he helped shape with "Men in Black III," the long-awaited sequel that reunites Will Smith's Agent J and Tommy Lee Jones's Agent K -- two Men in Black who monitor and control alien activity on Earth. J must go back in time to 1969 to avert a global extraterrestrial catastrophe and meets up with a young K, played with eerie verisimilitude by Josh Brolin.
The self-effacing Sonnenfeld is the first to admit that 2002's "Men in Black II" had some faults, but he insists that the current sequel is much closer in tone to the 1997 blockbuster original we all enjoyed. We asked Sonnenfeld about "Men in Black III"'s long journey to the screen, what happened to Frank the pug, and what the director would do differently to "Men in Black II" if he could travel back in time. Fifteen years after "Men in Black" and 10 years after "Men in Black II," Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones return as alien-managing Agents J and K, respectively, in "Men in Black III" (May 25). Agent J discovers that both his partner's life and the fate of Eart are at stake when Boris the Animal escapes imprisonment and messes with history, so J travels back in time to 1969 to help a young K (Josh Brolin) stop Boris before they are trapped in the past forever.
It's been a long time since Smith and Jones erased the memories of civilians with those shiny little neuralizers, but some fans were turned off by "Men in Black II"'s overly comedic feeling. For those people, director Barry Sonnenfeld has some words of comfort. "The third movie is much more like the first movie in terms of tone," he said at the "MIB3" press conference. Get More »
