Matt Damon Still Blue About Turning Down 'Avatar'

Now we're trying to picture Jason Bourne all tall and blue and Na'vi-like.
Matt Damon could've starred in "Avatar" and is still kind of upset that he didn't, according to Hollywood.com. The "Promised Land" star was James Cameron's first choice for the lead role of Jake Sully.
"I particularly wanted to work with James Cameron, and still do," Damon said in an interview with Playboy. "He knew he was the star of that movie and that everyone was going to see it anyway. When he said, 'Look, I'm offering it to you, but if you say no, the movie doesn't need you,' I remember thinking, 'Oh God, not only do I have to say no because of scheduling, but he's going to make a star out of some guy who's going to to start taking jobs from me later.'" Judd Apatow's new comedy, "This Is 40," presents the many challenges that come with middle age, such as being attractive, having amusing and dedicated friends and wallowing in complete financial stability.
It's not all mundane tedium, though — sometimes you also just go crazy and get high in hotel rooms and caress Megan Fox's pert, twentysomething breasts.
Let's face it — something about being rich and famous kind of slows down the aging process that us regular schmoes have to contend with. Here are a few celebrity types who make 40 look like the new 25.

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...
• James Franco continues to provide evidence that he lives in a world where there are more than 24 hours in a day. According to Deadline, the crazy busy thespian has added "The Grace That Keeps This World" to his insane schedule, a family drama co-starring Brit Marling and Glenn Close that follows a father and his sons as they prepare for the upcoming hunting season.
• Michelle Williams, whom we haven't seen on the big screen since "My Week With Marilyn," is in talks to star in "Suite Francaise" for English director Saul Dibb ("The Duchess"). Williams would be playing, according to Variety, "a spirited young woman in occupied France who falls for a German officer and must choose between love and her country." She'll probably find a way to choose both.
• The con is on with Ben Affleck! Deadline reports that the "Argo" man is in talks to star in "Focus," the tale of a grifter who falls in love with a female up-and-comer — a recipe for heartbreak when one's in the business of cheating and lying. Get More »
Trailer Takes Matt Damon to the 'Promised Land'... and Oscar?
Focus Features
Matt Damon is an Academy Award-winning screenwriter. Yeah, we forgot too. After his acting career took off in the afterglow of "Good Will Hunting," Damon settled into a nice groove acting in hit after hit, but only co-wrote one other screenplay, for director Gus Van Sant's cryptic experiment "Gerry."
That's all changed now that he's reunited with Van Sant, back in feel-good "Will Hunting" mode, who's going to take Damon to the "Promised Land"… and possibly the Oscars, as seen in the new trailer via iTunes. Get More »

Even though the world has been waiting for "The Bourne Legacy" to hit theaters this summer, leading man Jeremy Renner doesn't think the movie is all that big — at least when it comes to keeping the production under wraps. Renner compared the secrecy involved in "The Bourne Legacy" to his other big summer blockbuster "The Avengers," and his answer might surprise you.
"'The Avengers' was really intense," Renner told MTV. "This one, I suppose, was really small in a lot of ways."
With all of the heart-pounding action and special effects we've seen in the trailer, you could've fooled us. But we guess nothing really gets the uber-fans scrambling for spoilers than assembling some of the most famous superheroes into one movie. Get More »
