It was a huge weekend at the cinema as "Madagascar 3" battled "Prometheus" right down to the wire for the title of box office champion.
And the winner? Well, according to Film.com, "Madagascar 3" took in an estimated $60.4 million to edge out "Prometheus," which brought in a strong $50 million. The one-two punch helped Hollywood land one of its biggest non-"Avengers" weekends of the year.
Plus, it was a record-breaking weekend for "The Hunger Games," which inched over the $400 million mark domestically, becoming just the 14th film ever to reach that lofty plateau.

2011 was a heckuva year for Jessica Chastain, and things are only going to get more colorful in 2012. The Oscar hopeful will be joining the circus as Gia the jaguar in the DreamWorks animated film "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted." Yup, all those wacky animals are still trying to find their way back to Central Park, and this time they find themselves traveling through Europe as part of a circus.
Other than Gia, "Madagascar" is also adding two new animals to the crew with some rather interesting actors attached. Bryan Cranston, who plays a meth cook on "Breaking Bad," will be voicing a Siberian Tiger, while comedian Martin Short is on board to play a sea lion named Stefano.
Oscar-winner Frances McDormand is also joining the fun; she'll be the voice of the big baddie in the movie, Captain Chantel DuBois, an animal control officer hot on the tails of our furry/flippered/feathered friends. Get More »
