Why did it take so long for one of the Hollywood's go-to action ladies and the director of "La Femme Nikita" to join forces?
No use in fretting about the years that have gone by -- the time is finally now for Angelina Jolie and Luc Besson to work together, according to Deadline.
Besson, who seems to have finally gotten interested in directing again after mostly serving as a writer-producer over the past decade, has approached Jolie to star in his currently untitled action thriller. Details on the plot have yet to emerge, but it's being described as a large-scale extravaganza worthy of following in the footsteps of Besson's other female-driven dramatic thrillers such as "Leon: The Professional," "The Fifth Element," "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc" and, of course, "La Femma Nikita." After she made a huge splash in James Cameron's "Avatar," it was only a matter of time before Zoe Saldana got to headline her own potential franchise --and though she may not be seeing blue anymore, she is seeing red. Saldana has hooked up with certified action-ologist Luc Besson for the producer's latest high-octane blast to the face, "Colombiana."
In a nod to Besson's earlier films "La Femme Nikita" and "The Professional," Saldana plays Cataleya Restrepo, a hardcore assassin doing some extracurricular work taking out the bad guys who killed her parents. If you want to see the action for yourself, we've got six clips in the chamber, locked and loaded, ready to fire. Get More »
Luc Besson is probably most well known for writing and directing high-octane female-led actioners like the upcoming Zoe Saldana revenge thriller "Colombiana," but his next project is probably the most political and Oscar bait-y.
Michelle Yeoh has taken a break from kicking butt for "The Lady," Besson's drama about the inspirational Burmese political icon and Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Although this teaser is under a minute long, it's enough to give you a taste of the scope and beauty of the film, as well as Kyi's dramatic and inspirational story. Get More »
While watching Zoe Saldana fire machine guns, kick armored guards out a window and smash a clueless stoner's head into a table in the new trailer for "Colombiana," (debuting on Yahoo) you realize the woman must be entirely comprised of muscle. Seriously, she's what, 5' 7"? 5' 8"? Thin as a stick, but she can take down beefed up baddies a few heads taller than her with a swift roundhouse kick to the neck.
You can't pull that off after only a few rounds on the elliptical. She's the real deal.
"Colombiana" is the latest from mastermind Luc Besson, the one-man action movie factory that brought us "La Femme Nikita," "The Professional," "The Transporter," "Unleashed," "Taken" and "From Paris with Love." Get More »
How can there be a "Taken 2" without Liam Neeson?
You remember "Taken," right? That's the one where Liam Neeson's daughter gets kidnapped and sold into sex slavery within the first ten minutes of landing in Paris with her idiot friend, so Liam punches out everyone in France until he finds her.
Liam then blows up all of France and returns to the States with his little girl intact, somehow without having created an international incident. Get More »
