Sharon Stone has been keeping it steamy on the big screen for about three decades, and while her latest movie "Lovelace" is about a woman who ultimately escapes being exploited for the cameras, Stone thinks Hollywood actresses need to buck up and start showing off their nether regions much more readily. Adam Brody became a household name the playing adorkable Seth Cohen on the hit Fox television show "The O.C." in the early 2000s. Since then, Brody has continued to be quite the working man, appearing in "Jennifer's Body," "Scream 4" and this year's "Some Girls," among several others.
This week, Brody is invading your living room (as well as select theaters) with the VOD release of "Lovelace." He appears as 1970s porn star Harry Reems, acting opposite Amanda Seyfried (who plays the titular Linda) and Peter Sarsgaard (as her husband). Brody's character is necessary comic relief in the film, which centers around the tumultuous, abusive relationship between Lovelace and her husband Chuck Traynor. He will also be seen onscreen alongside Paula Patton in the rom-com "Baggage Claim," due out September 27.
We caught up with Brody in New York City ahead of the release of "Lovelace" and got him to dish on porn, life after "The O.C." and what makes him cry. Get More »
Lindsay Lohan was fired from (or quit?) one Linda Lovelace biopic so now it's Amanda Seyfried who gets to do all of the sucking first in the other one.
Ok, sorry, that was too easy. Lovelace was the woman whose 1973 pornographic film, "Deep Throat," helped kickstart the Sexual Revolution. Lovelace was a reluctant star with a complex life story, detailed with great care in the 2005 documentary "Inside Deep Throat." (The doc was a hit at Sundance and later opened in limited release.) "Lovelace" is the biopic version of her story, starring Seyfriend in the title role that once belonged to Lilo in a competing biopic from a whole different creative team.
In the Seyfriend one, which is first up to bat, James Franco plays Hugh Hefner (!) and Adam Brody plays "Deep Throat" costar Harry Reems (so, apparently, his first pet was named "Harry" and the street he grew up on was "Reems." Got it.)
They're supported by a huge ensemble: Juno Temple, Wes Bentley, Eric Roberts, Sharon Stone, Robert Patrick, Peter Sarsgaard, Chris Noth, Bobby Cannavale, Hank Azaria, Debi Mazar and Chloe Sevigny.
The woman born Linda Susan Boreman was married to the production manager on "Deep Throat," who allegedly coerced her into porn (they eventually divorced). She made multiple adult movies, but later renounced her past and became an anti-pornography activist. She passed away in 2002 at the age of 53. "Lovelace" premiered at the Sundance film festival in January, Brazil in March and is due here in the U.S. on August 8.
Lilo didn't get to play the porn star in "Inferno: The Linda Lovelace Story" (the "other" Lovelace biopic, in which she was replaced by Malin Ackerman), but she did once play a stripper. She recently Tweeted a reply (from rehab!) to a fan who said she'd just watched "I Know Who Killed Me" twice. Lohan responded: "two times too many!" It's probably a good thing for Franco that he did the Seyfried version and didn't end up doing the one with Lohan. It could have been awkward to have to talk about that joke in "This is the End"!
James Franco had no intention of being the sex king of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. But sometimes the universe gifts us a miracle.
So it has come to pass that the 34-year-old actor has arrived in town to promote no less than three sex-filled films. In "Lovelace," the dark story of the '70s-era porn star, he plays Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. "Kink" is a Franco-produced documentary about the world's largest producer of BDSM pornography. And then there's a co-directing effort called "Interior. Leather Bar.," a sexually charged riff on a 1980 film about gay cruising.
Has this all been part of Franco's plan, the next step in his always-keep-you-guessing, is-he-really-going-there-now career? Or is it just happenstance, the entertainment gods smiling down upon us? Franco, predictably thoughtful on the subject, can see it both ways.
Tap-outs and new partners are nothing new in the porn world, but it seems like Linda Lovelace is getting more than her fair share these days.
Following Demi Moore's hospitalization for having a freak out after trying Ashton's stash of whip-its exhaustion, the newly single actress has dropped out of Linda Lovelace biopic "Lovelace" as feminist icon Gloria Steinem.
Deadline reports that Sarah Jessica Parker will be taking over as Steinem in the movie, which stars Amanda Seyfried as the "Deep Throat" star. Parker joins an already impressive cast, including Sharon Stone, Wes Bentley, Peter Sarsgaard, and James Franco, as porn pioneer/smoking jacket enthusiast Hugh Hefner. Get More »
Chloe Sevigny is probably best known these days for her long run on the HBO polygamy drama "Big Love," but she's about to take a crack at another, very different examination of sexual roles in our society: The upcoming big screen biography of porn icon Linda Lovelace.
"Big Love?" Meet "Deep Throat." Get More »
After checking into a rehab facility for "exhaustion" Tuesday afternoon (following an incident in which she was rushed to the hospital on Monday night), Demi Moore has dropped out of the Linda Lovelace biopic "Lovelace." The 49-year-old stunner joined the cast only a few weeks ago, and was slated to play a supporting role as women's rights activist Gloria Steinem, who took a very public stance against pornography, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Though official word from Moore's camp claims the actress is seeking professional help for exhaustion, she is rumored to have a substance abuse problem. Paramedics responded to a 911 call at 10:45pm on Monday night and rushed to Moore's LA home, assessing her condition for a full thirty minutes before transferring her to a nearby hospital. Sounds like more than exhaustion to us, but hey—what do we know? Get More »
Demi Moore is preparing to fight for women's lib.
The "Striptease" star will be playing the role of Gloria Steinem in "Lovelace," one of at least two Linda Lovelace biopics currently in production, according to Variety. For the record, this is the one starring Amanda Seyfried as the "Deep Throat" porn star.
Gloria Steinem is a feminist, journalist, political activist and one of the most prominent leaders of the women's liberation movement in the 1960s and '70s. She founded Ms. magazine, which published the infamous article, "The Real Linda Lovelace," in which Steinem discussed Linda's relationship with her abusive pornographer husband, Chuck Traynor (to be played by Peter Sarsgaard). Still riding high from getting his NYU professor fired the summer blockbuster "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," James Franco is in talks to make a cameo appearance as the one and only Hugh Hefner in "Lovelace."
The drama, based on Eric Danville's biography, "The Complete Linda Lovelace," follows Linda Boreman's transformation into porn star Linda Lovelace, her rise to fame that climaxed (hee hee) with her 1972 flick "Deep Throat," and her subsequent conversion into the feminist, anti-porn activist Linda Marchiano. Sounds pretty complete to us. Get More »
