Julia Stiles has proven she can handle pretty much any genre. She ruled the teen rom-com scene with "10 Things I Hate About You" and "Save the Last Dance." She took action as Matt Damon's co-star in the fast-paced "Bourne" series. She was perfect as the horrified mother of one creepy kid named Damien in "The Omen." But now Stiles is taking on one genre she wasn't even aware existed: apocalypse comedies.
In her latest film, "It's a Disaster" directed by Todd Berger, available now in VOD and in theaters April 12, four couples meeting for Sunday brunch find themselves stranded together when they receive news that the world is ending. Stiles plays Tracy, a doctor who's introducing her new boyfriend Glen (David Cross) to her three best friends and their significant others. While her biggest initial fear is whether her friends will approve of her new beau, she soon realizes passing the friend test is the least of her worries at this couple's brunch. (Check out the film at its official site.)
NextMovie sat down with Stiles in her hometown of New York City to chat about the film, awkward brunches, and how a ukelele could help in an apocalypse scenario. Get More »
Not all movie stars are created equal. Some are tall. Some are short. Some spend their free time on philanthropy. Some spend their free time in jail. And some secretly gave children up for adoption. Wait; that's actually Tina Fey's character in "Admission" — not to be confused with the real Tina Fey, who (at the time of this posting) has not put any of her offspring up for adoption. Get More »
The cinematic odyssey of amnesiatic CIA assassin Jason Bourne left a trail of bodies, property damage and wrecked cars, but there's apparently still more carnage to be mined from this franchise in this week's "The Bourne Legacy."
Picking up after (and sometimes during) the previous three movies, "Legacy" presents a new agent named Aaron Cross dealing with government duplicity as many, many bullets are fired at him, seemingly at all times. As Jeremy Renner inherits the Bourne mantle, we look back at his predecessor to help you catch up. It might be difficult, though — Matt Damon can run really fast. Get More »
Two former teen queens have just signed on to star in an edgy indie flick.
Julia Stiles, who recently received her first Emmy nomination for her guest-starring role in "Dexter" (but who you remember from "10 Things I Hate About You"), and America Ferrera, of "Ugly Betty" fame, have signed on to play the leading ladies in "It's a Disaster."
They join a cast made of up the members of the comedy troupe The Vacationeers, which includes Kevin M. Brennan, Jeff Grace, Blaise Miller and Todd Berger (who also happens to be writing and directing this round). Get More »
