You may not have seen actress Leslie Mann's most flattering side yet: Her two most memorable roles are the drunken French toast craver who hits on Steve Carell in "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and Debbie, the "crazy chick in a pink dress snatching up babies" in "Knocked Up." In "This Is 40," however, out on DVD and Blu-ray Friday, Mann had the chance to reprise the latter role, showing the (somewhat) softer side of Debbie.
"This Is 40," directed by Mann's husband, Judd Apatow, focuses in on Debbie, Pete (Paul Rudd) and their daughters (Mann's real-life kids, Iris and Maude Apatow), who were relegated to side character status in "Knocked Up." The "sort-of sequel" to the 2007 hit, "This Is 40" catches up with Pete and Debbie as they grapple with the trials and tribulations of middle age.
NextMovie caught up with Mann for a brief telephone chat recently, and found out what it's like to have your husband tell another man to kiss you, whether "This Is 40" is Debbie's revenge, and who she'd cast as her love interest, given the choice. Get More »
This week: Peter Jackson returns to Middle-earth with "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," the first of three movies based on the classic fantasy novel "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien, which features Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Ian McKellen reprising his role as the wizard Gandalf from "The Lord of the Rings."
"I wish I knew what all the kids were talking about when they say that they 'don't want your big box of porn, man.' They all laugh and sound like they're all in on a really great joke, but I just have no idea what they're talking about."
Fret no more, zeitgeist-ignorant pal! This is your chance to get in on the joke and own all four of director Judd Apatow's highly quotable feature films. To celebrate the DVD release of Apatow's latest, "This Is 40," NextMovie is happy to present a giveaway that'll hit you like a pop culture hammer to the head.
Four lucky winners will receive the ultimate Apatow prize pack, which includes Blu-ray copies of the following: "The 40 Year Old Virgin," "This Is 40," "Knocked Up" and "Funny People." Nice! Now you'll know what they're all talking about, finally. Get More »
Congratulations on "This is 40." It's good. I laughed quite a bit, at many parts. Your daughters are competent actresses. Your wife is exceptional. It seems to be moderately successful at the box office. Overall, job well done.
(Throat clear) That said, it's still way, way, way too long. WAY too long. And here's the frustrating thing: You know it! Why else would you have the title be something so easily made into a joke about the length of the movie by hack film critics? It really, actually is 40 minutes too long. And yet you insist on keeping all of your movies at a robust two-plus hours, as if Gronk-spiking the viewer's patience in his face. Get More »
"The handicapped stall is like a free hotel." We never looked at it that way before.
Judd Apatow has a knack for making us see everyday (and not so everyday) things from completely new perspectives, and there are a lot of perspectives going on in this five-minute deleted scene from his new comedy, "This Is 40." Get More »
If there's one thing the Apatow family ("This Is 40" director Judd Apatow, his wife Leslie Mann and daughters Iris and Maude Apatow, who all star in the movie) excels at, it is antics. (And, some would say, filmmaking.) Get More »
When you're a potential Oscar nominee, there's no end to ways you will humiliate yourself in order to win over the mostly 80+ year-old voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Somewhere between appearing on "Oprah" and busking on a subway lie these jolly fellows, who all appear to be singing "Jingle Bells" (or at least trying) because you may or may not have gotten those candy canes they sent out lined with $100-dollar bills. Get More »
[From MTV.com] In any discussion about people who have had the largest impact on pop culture, Judd Apatow belongs at the forefront. For years, the producer, director and screenwriter has created entertainment for the "MTV generation."
Thus, MTV is proud to announce that Apatow is our next "MTV Pioneers" speaker. He will sit down with MTV News' Josh Horowitz on Wednesday (December 19) at 4 p.m. ET for a 60-minute discussion that will touch on many things: his new movie, "This Is 40," his success in Hollywood, how the "Apatow effect" has changed the way studios make and market R-rated comedies, and everything he's learned along the way. To take part in the chat, which streams live on MTV.com, tweet your questions to @MTVNews using the hashtag #askjudd.

Comedian types are always pretty quick to dish it out, but the question always remains whether they themselves can take it. Enter the trusty Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to find out.
Funny or Die took the mean-spirited faux pooch to the set of Judd Apatow's "This is 40" to haggle him and his central cast — including Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Megan Fox and John Lithgow — to find out just how thick-skinned these supposedly funny people are. The appeal of Triumph, of course, is that he gets the jabs in nice and deep, and it's up to his victims to play it cool under the heat of his hateful barrage. Get More »
"Here's where you make out with my wife."
If you've ever said that, you're either recreationally into that sort of thing (and we here at NextMovie hold no judgment) or you're a Hollywood director married to an actress in the movie you're directing. Get More »
