The 9 Most Unintentionally Scary Movies
It's happened to all of us: you go to a movie expecting a thoughtful drama or lighthearted romp. No one warned you — it was all a sick trick to expose you to a vision as bloodcurdling as any "Saw" sequel.
Two hours later, you stumble into the lobby, unsure whether it's tears or your last meal welling up. Maybe it was a disturbing truth exposed in the film that did it. Or maybe the line between surrealist daydream and psychotic nightmare was inadvertently crossed. In honor of Halloween, here's our list of top 9 movies that failed to warn us in the commercials that they'd scar us for life. Get More »
Casting Roundup: Depp, Cooper and Rossum Get the Gigs
MTV
All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...
• Well, he's not going to be in Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel," but maybe Johnny Depp will be in Wally Pfister's "Transcendence." Deadline reports that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star is in talks to join the feature directorial debut of Christopher Nolan's go-to cinematographer ... the plot of which is, of course, being kept under wraps.
• You know, Bradley Cooper is just about as perfect for a Cameron Crowe movie as, oh, Emma Stone. The "Hangover" star is set to make his already ultra-busy schedule even busier as he's in talks to join the "Amazing Spider-Man" beauty in Crowe's untitled romantic comedy, which is said to be in the vein of "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous." My Favorite Movie: Jenna Dewan-Tatum

"'Cry-Baby' by John Waters with Johnny Depp is one of my favorite movies. I probably watched it every single day when I was a kid. I know every word. I can sing the songs. I just love the kookiness and I love that era and I love the music.
"I love the way movies like that can make you feel, and I'm just really into musicals right now. When you can watch a movie as many times as I've watched that one and you still love it, you know it's something special."
Jenna Dewan-Tatum stars in the new season of "American Horror Story: Asylum," premiering tonight at 10 p.m. on FX. She was most recently seen on the big screen opposite her husband, Channing Tatum, in the romantic dramedy "10 Years."
The First 'Lone Ranger' Trailer Is Here!
After months of anticipation, and one much-buzzed about tease at Comic-Con, the world was finally treated to the first trailer for Johnny Depp's high octane western "The Lone Ranger" last night.
And all we can say is: Hi-Yo Silver! And Away! Get More »
New on DVD and Blu-ray: 'Dark Shadows' and More
Warner Bros.
This week: The latest collaboration between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp is a remake of the '60s soap opera "Dark Shadows" with Depp playing the centuries-old vampire Barnabas Collins, who is having an amusingly difficult time adjusting to the weird and wonderful '70s.
Also new this week is the family drama "People Like Us" with Chris Pine, the Blu-ray debut of Disney's animated "Cinderella," a Blu-ray collection of the first seven "A Nightmare on Elm Street" movies and "Universal Monsters: The Essential Collection" in high definition for the first time.
The 25 Best Music Performances in Movies
Universal
Actors are trained to be able to portray just about anything their role calls for, but there's one thing even the best actors can't possibly fake: Singing.
That's why we're always so impressed when actors sing on screen rather than just lip-synch some professional musician. Case in point: Next week's "Pitch Perfect," which features stars such as Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson belting out tunes like the divas they were meant to be. Get More »
Ahoy! Fifth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Could Set Sail in Nov.
Shiver me timbers! Disney's most recent excursion to the Caribbean, "On Stranger Tides," brought in a billion bucks at the box office, so it seems only logical that they would want to harvest more pirate booty from the ocean floor.
No one could have guessed that they'd be flying the Jolly Roger as soon as November, though, which is exactly what Caribbean Business is reporting as the start date for the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" flick.
If true, this shooting commitment has The Film Stage speculating that the release for "Pirates 5" would be somewhere in the neighborhood of Summer 2014, with Captain Jack Sparrow lured back to the sea with a substantial $95 million payday (supposedly) for star Johnny Depp. Get More »

Some things you just can't stand for if you consider yourself to be ... well, a person.
MTV's own Josh Horowitz caught up with the "Dark Shadows" star at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, though their conversation was a bit more serious than your usual piece of Tim Burton whimsy. Depp spoke about how moved he was by the real-life events that are explored in "West of Memphis," director Amy Berg's new documentary that chronicles the "failure of justice" that was the case of the West Memphis Three.
Check out Johnny Depp's interview with MTV News, and see what all the rage is about when "West of Memphis" opens in theaters on Dec. 25.
