'In Our Nature' Trailer: John Slattery is a Silver Fox
Way back at this year's SXSW Festival in March, there was a little indie film called "In Our Nature" which had critics and audiences buzzing. This being the movie business, though, all of that buzz led to months of deal making and distribution setup and hemming and hawing and this and that and whatever. But no actual movie in theaters for you to see.
Well, that is finally about to change, as "In Our Nature" is at last set to arrive next month. And what better way to celebrate than by releasing a new trailer? Get More »
'The Hunger Games' Cast Talent Show
The fact that the cast of "The Hunger Games" has on-screen talent is a no-brainer. Just look at their Oscar cred!
That bunch knows how to sizzle before the camera. But did you know Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) can also air-puppetteer her own face? Or that Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark) can make an insane cricket chirping noise on cue? Or that Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne) can perform magic tricks for a crowd? Get More »

Jena Malone Officially 'Catching Fire' as Tribute Johanna Mason
UPDATE: It's official! In a press release from Lionsgate, Jena Malone has been confirmed as taking on the role of Johanna Mason in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."
____________
Considering the massive success of "The Hunger Games" and the fact that it turned Jennifer Lawrence into an instant A-list celebrity, it's fair to say that there's a lot of competition for the juicy new roles in the upcoming sequel "Catching Fire." And no competition is hotter — or role juicier — than the fight to play snide former Hunger Games winner Johanna Mason. It's like Hollywood's own metaphorical battle to the death.
Or, at least, it was. But now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that we may have a winner, as Jena Malone is apparently in negotiations for the role.
Two Contenders Compete For Johanna in 'Catching Fire'
UPDATE: Jena Malone has joined Zoe Aggeliki as a contender for the key role of Johanna Mason in the "Hunger Games" sequel, according to Inside Movies.
Johanna is, of course, the strong-willed tribute with "a wicked ability to murder" who forms an alliance with Katniss and Peeta. As Malone is known for taking part in edgier fare such as "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys" and "The Ruins," her possible involvement has us thinking that director Francis Lawrence might stick pretty close to how Johanna first meets Katniss in the book: naked, except for a pair of green slippers.
With news of Jena being in the Johanna mix also comes confirmation of something that we kind of suspected: Mia Wasikowska ("Alice in Wonderland") has not been approached for the role, nor would her busy schedule allow her to take part either way. Get More »
Watching Cool Indie Trailers Is 'In Our Nature'
Families: They can get pretty messed up. Luckily, however, we have indie cinema to help us sort through all the complex feelings and twisty emotions that families can generate — and if the new trailer for "In Our Nature" is any indication, family dramas have never quite been this dramatic before.
Why spend big bucks for a therapist when you can go to the theater instead? Get More »
Jena Malone's Heart Is a 'Lonely Hunter'
Jena Malone is one tough cookie and definitely not an actor to shy away from a challenging project.
She's just signed on for the lead role in "Lonely Hunter," the life story of Southern gothic author Carson McCullers. Deborah Kampmeier, who was last seen behind the lens of the controversial Dakota Fanning flick "Hounddog," will be directing. It's definitely a dicey move for Malone, but a welcome one.
Malone's no stranger to the rough-and-tumble Southern gothic genre; she made her debut in the intense adaptation of Dorothy Allison's "Bastard Out of Carolina." While "Bastard" takes place in a very different era than when McCullers was living, it's hard to imagine one existing without the other. After that, she stole Donnie Darko's heart (and ours) right before the world went kaplooey, and has gone on to rock indies like "Into the Wild" and blockbusters like "Sucker Punch" alike. Get More »
Union, Malone, Gilford and Slattery Share the Same 'Family Tree'
There's a bit of truth to the old saying that you pick your friends, but you don't pick your family — just ask the cast of "Family Tree," an upcoming flick that explores some of the more, er, complicated family dynamics that can pop up.
Starring Gabrielle Union ("FlashForward"), Jena Malone ("Sucker Punch"), Zach Gilford ("Friday Night Lights") and John Slattery ("Mad Men"), the indie dramedy boasts a storyline that makes even the most untraditional of us flinch.
Slattery and Gilford star as an estranged father and son who accidentally wind up in the same vacation home with their two girlfriends. Of course, Slattery's girlfriend (played by Union) is practically the same age his son—making for some awkward encounters to say the least. Malone steps in as Gilford's girlfriend, watching the situation unravel. Get More »
My Favorite Movie: Jena Malone
"It changes, but I have to say 'Mouchette' by Robert Bresson. I go to it again and again for inspiration. The sound quality is incredible and it's so lyrical. It's one of my favorite films and is really beautiful."
Jena Malone can currently be seen kicking butt on-screen in Zack Snyder's fantasy flick "Sucker Punch."
