The director has finally spoken up about what prompted the decision to pull the film from its original winter holiday run and slate it in with the superhero-heavy summer schedule, and he made no mention of the rumored financing feud between himself and the Warner Bros. studio.
If there's anybody in the world who understands the need to be big pimpin' and spendin' cheese, it's Jay-Z, and it sounds like all that baller status empathy is coming to good, good use for director Baz Luhrmann and his upcoming adaptation of "The Great Gatsby."
In this latest (final?) trailer for the lavish picture, the group offers up a delicious little sampling of the smörgåsbord of talent Jay's got on deck for "Gatsby" - leading off, of course, with his one and only

As in "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet," Aussie director Baz Luhrmann is looking to circumvent Generation Y's deep loathing for anything from before this past decade by saturating his lavish film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jazz Age romance "The Great Gatsby" with pop tunes aplenty.
True to his past behavior, Reuters reports that Luhrmann has lured 17-time Grammy champ Jay-Z in the curatorial executive producer capacity on "Gatsby," meaning he's procuring, producing and arranging all the artists' tracks for the soundtrack, rumored to include the likes of Lady Gaga and Prince. Either "The Great Gatsby" needs a serious boost wrangling up a modern demographic or director Baz Luhrmann is some kind of evil filmmaking wizard who's bound to show us all how hardcore his creativity really is.
Luhrmann, who tapped the then-untested Nellee Hooper to score his other Leonardo DiCaprio-led classic-to-modern adaptation, "Romeo + Juliet," has chosen hip hop artist Jay-Z of all people to score "Gatsby." Get More »
