Before you write "The Host" star Jake Abel off as a pretty-boy lead in yet another supernatural romance aimed at teens, you should know: a Twihard he's not. He hasn't even read the "Twilight" series. That didn't stop him from being intrigued by the script for "The Host," based on "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's sophomore effort, a sort of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" meets, well, "Twilight" story. Abel's character, Ian, is one of the last humans on Earth who hasn't become host to a benevolent alien race intent on taking over the planet. Ian's group of vigilantes takes in Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), who has been taken over by an alien named Wanderer or, as she is eventually known, Wanda. Ian eventually comes to have feelings for Wanda, but there's a hitch: His BFF Jared (Max Irons) used to date Melanie, pre-alien. Uh-oh.
NextMovie sat down for a chat with Abel prior to the film's March 29 opening to discuss Twihards, love triangles — or, perhaps more accurately, love quartets — and how in the world to pronounce "Saoirse." Read on to impress your friends with an effortless pronunciation. Get More »
Video Q&A: Jake Abel and Max Irons Talk 'The Host'
Just as "The Twilight Saga" comes to an end, Stephenie Meyer's next book-to-film adaptation is getting a brand new trailer. The updated peek at "The Host" released today (see it here!) will run in theaters before "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," and we were lucky enough to chat with the two young male leads about bringing the book's unusual love story to life..
Max Irons and Jake Abel star as Jared and Ian, respectively, in the upcoming film that's already generating tons of buzz. In talking about "The Host," out March 29, Irons told NextMovie, "It's a mistake to dwell too much on the consequences of a piece of work that you're making. The best thing you can do as a group is to just try and create that world."
But who would win in a battle of werewolves, vampires and aliens?
Aliens, of course, Abel insisted. "They have the technology to destroy from a distance," he said.
Watch what the two actors had to say about their roles, and how difficult it was to get Meyer to spill details about a potential "Host" sequel.

Step aside, vampires and werewolves — 2013 marks the year of the alien takeover with "The Host."
The upcoming adaptation of "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi novel centers around Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), a human serving as a host for Wanderer, one of the alien Souls that have invaded Earth. Wanderer struggles to maintain power over Melanie, whose strong emotions and memories cause friction between body and soul. Eventually, they fall for the same human guy — played by Max Irons. Diane Kruger is The Seeker, the nasty alien threatening to put a stop to the freaky love triangle.
The film doesn't hit theaters until March 29, 2013, but they're releasing images now. Check out today's new look at Wanda.
Everything We Know About 'The Host' So Far
Open Road Films
Stephenie Meyer's money-makin' mojo isn't just limited to massive book sales. She's also four for four on resultant box office pillages, and the folks at Open Road Films would love nothing more than for her first non-"Twilight" book-to-screen adaptation, "The Host," to become the next focal point for the rabid attention of her fan base. Rumor has it, Meyer's currently tapping out the long-overdue sequel to her sci-fi novel, too, so there's definitely some franchise potential at play with this story.

Jake Abel, best known for his role as Luke Castellan in "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" is about to find out how much adulation his eardrums can take with his upcoming role in "The Host," the film adaptation of "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's novel of the same name.
