You're at a bar and some fictional movie character comes up and introduces her or himself. How long will it take before the subsequent conversation trends toward anything other than some form of, "But, seriously, what's your real name?"

Advertising is a bait and switch culture, no question. So many commercials for movies often create a false impression, whether its selling a movie about cancer as a raucous comedy or taking the few moments of action from a lame thriller and making it look like "Die Hard."
Sometimes a trailer just plain old doesn't have the scene in question, and The Telegraph reports that this led a customer known only as "J Congdon" to post a complaint to New Zealand's Advertising Standards Authority in regards to one split-second explosion left on the cutting room floor of Tom Cruise vehicle "Jack Reacher." Bilbo Baggins and his band of hirsute buddies easily won the box office again this weekend, as according to Film.com, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" earned an estimated $36.7 million to take the top spot.
That was more than double the amount of second place finisher "Jack Reacher" ($15.6 million), while fellow newcomers "This Is 40" ($12 million) and "The Guilt Trip" ($5.4 million) also failed to make much of an impression on movie fans.
For a full list of this weekend's box office top ten, including numbers for returning hits "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," "Life of Pi" and "Skyfall," head to Film.com.

"Jack Reacher," however, launches Pike into new places — like Tom Cruise's bedroom. Well, sorta. In this action thriller, Pike plays Helen, a well-heeled attorney who likes to cross her "T"s and dot her "I"s, while Mr. Cruise takes on the titular role as an ex-military vigilante who takes the law into his own hands … and only owns one shirt, which seems to get wet a lot. There's a distinct sub-category of Tom Cruise movies we like to call the "Leather Jacket Series," wherein the "Top Gun" actor rocks his Maverick haircut and some style of said jacket, as prominently featured in "Minority Report," "War of the Worlds," all the "Mission: Impossible" flicks, and even his upcoming "Oblivion."
