Every now and then Hollywood has a good idea, and we gotta say, this is one of the best we've heard in a while. Daniel Craig is killing it as James Bond—and there's even chatter that he might be the new quintessential 007 (sorry Sean Connery) — but he's going to have to hang up the tuxedo someday… which makes us wonder who could possibly take his place?
Enter Idris Elba. That's right—the guy from "The Wire." According to Total Film, Elba has already met with producer Barbara Broccoli (no, we didn't make that name up) to discuss the possibility. Obviously, this has us very excited for many reasons, not the least of which is that Elba is a powerful thesp we'd love to see more of, but also because he would be the first black Bond. Well, we’re not buying it. Nowhere in "Wrath of the Titans" do any gods offer to give up eternal youth, superpowers, the sprawling temple in the clouds or their unworldly good looks. Instead, they seem riddled with insecurity, determined to strike down any man, woman, or child who is too good looking. (Don’t have a good hair day around the gods. Hunky acting god (and recent Golden Globe-winner) Idris Elba has been making quick work of becoming the genre actor du jour, with roles in big pics like the "Ghost Rider" sequel, "Thor" and this summer's sci-fi blockbuster "Prometheus," but now he's getting back to reality with a biopic of one of the 20th century's most important political figures.
In a video interview with HipHollywood, the 39-year-old Brit said he plans to play anti-apartheid leader and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela in "Long Walk To Freedom," a story spanning the tumultuous years before his celebrated release from prison in 1990. Get More »
