Alex Pettyfer and Gus Van Sant Get Sexy With 'Fifty Shades' Scene
Getty Images
There have been several names floating around as the potential director of "Fifty Shades of Grey," the erotic bestseller by E.L. James that chronicles the sinfully wicked sexual adventures of college student Anastasia Steele and mysterious billionaire Christian Grey. While none of the would-be candidates (such has Angelina Jolie) seem to have any interest in the project, there's one filmmaker who's bound and determined to score the gig for himself: Gus Van Sant.
The "Good Will Hunting" director is apparently lobbying hard for the assignment and has even gone so far as to shoot one of the book's many sex scenes ... starring "Magic Mike" up-and-comer Alex Pettyfer, according to The Wrap. Get More »
New on DVD and Blu-ray: 'The Impossible' and More
Summit
This week: Director J.A. Bayona's gut-wrenching "The Impossible" starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts in her Oscar-nominated role tells the true story of one family's struggle for survival after the 2004 tsunami that devastated Thailand and much of the surrounding region.
Also new this week is the troubled "Gangster Squad" with Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling; Gus Van Sant's "Promised Land" with Matt Damon and John Krasinski; and the Blu-ray 3D debut of the original "Jurassic Park." Get More »
Video Q&A: Matt Damon on How Double Dates Got 'Promised Land' Made
If it wasn't for personal chemistry and Matt Damon's directorial ambitions, the new movie "Promised Land" may not have been made, Damon told NextMovie in a sit-down interview in New York. Get More »
Trailer Takes Matt Damon to the 'Promised Land'... and Oscar?
Focus Features
Matt Damon is an Academy Award-winning screenwriter. Yeah, we forgot too. After his acting career took off in the afterglow of "Good Will Hunting," Damon settled into a nice groove acting in hit after hit, but only co-wrote one other screenplay, for director Gus Van Sant's cryptic experiment "Gerry."
That's all changed now that he's reunited with Van Sant, back in feel-good "Will Hunting" mode, who's going to take Damon to the "Promised Land"… and possibly the Oscars, as seen in the new trailer via iTunes. Get More »
Taylor Lautner Goes Indie with Gus Van Sant
Taylor Lautner is looking for some indie cred -- and Gus Van Sant is looking to give some.
In a team-up that's got us all sorts of excited (and curious), the "Twilight" star and "Restless" director are joining forces for an indie drama -- one that's currently shrouded in secrecy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lautner had dinner with Van Sant and "Milk" screenwriter Dustin Lance Black recently and apparently this is the project that has sprung forth from that meeting. Lautner will produce and star in the film, which is reportedly based on a New Yorker article that the "Abduction" star had optioned. We're assuming Black will be writing the screenplay. Get More »
GQ Apologizes for Questionable Taylor Lautner Interview Question
GQ has some 'splainin to do.
That's because the Australian edition of the popular men's magazine came under fire after asking "Twilight" hottie Taylor Lautner if Dustin Lance Black and Gus Van Sant had made a pass at him during a dinner in Los Angeles.
Lautner took it in stride, quipping, "No, definitely not. I think they know I'm straight. But they're great guys. They're a lot of fun. It's not a coincidence that there was a writer, a director, and an actor at dinner." Get More »
Love, Cancer and Ghosts On Display in New 'Restless' Trailer
"Restless" chronicles the love affair between a terminally ill young woman (Mia Wasikowska) and a funeral-crashing young man (Henry Hopper) whose best friend is the ghost of the kamikaze pilot (Ryo Case).
Let's just say that the new trailer, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, succeeds in turning what was once an "impossible sell" into simply a "hard sell." Get More »
James Franco Makes New Art of Gus Van Sant's 'My Own Private Idaho'
Renaissance man James Franco and his team of highly intelligent worker monkeys (which we assume exist, based on how many projects he's taken on in the last four months) have yet another artistic endeavor under their belts (the monkeys wear belts, obviously): an art installation revolving around director Gus Van Sant's 1991 film "My Own Private Idaho."
According to Deadline, Franco collaborated with the "Milk" director after Van Sant showed him hours of behind-the-scenes footage, outtakes and deleted scenes from his indie film that starred young actors River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves. Franco was so blown away by the footage that the he decided to compile and edit (all by himself) the footage in to something brand new. Two something brand news, actually. Get More »
Mia Wasikowska Has 'Restless' Trailer Syndrome
Remember the first time you fell in love? When you and that special someone would share those special moments like staring into each other's eyes or giggling at an inside joke, or, you know, crashing a funeral and talking endlessly about death?
Okay, so maybe that last part isn't one of your puppy love clichés, but it's just the kind of offbeat quirkiness that would make a great movie. Better yet, "Restless" is a new Gus Van Sant movie starring Mia Wasikowska. Get More »
