Via MTV News — Amid all of the discussion about how to describe "Guardians of the Galaxy," the second of Marvel's 2014 efforts, different genres get tossed around. Is it sci-fi? Is it fantasy? Is it even a superhero movie? But leave it to one of the film's stars, Zoe Saldana, to make things easy for everyone.
In her recent interview with MTV News, Saldana called "Guardians of the Galaxy" "a new way to view superheroes."
The James Gunn-directed flick, which follows a band of outlaws, finished filming not long ago, and the unexpected nature of the heroes has Saldana pumped.
"I love, sometimes, the consistency of what the classics have left behind, but I need innovation. You can only have so much of 'I'll save you,' " she said. "After a while, it's like, 'Oh god. Does he go to the bathroom? Is he hungry? Does he cry? Does he feel?' Not only do we cover that, but we're making heroes out of thieves, and they're Robin Hoods. These characters are absolutely amazing, and they have a full-blown redemption."

In animated form, Rocket Raccoon totally works. In fact, he is actually kind of a badass.*
However, when it comes to making a live-action movie which includes the gun-toting scamp, writer-director James Gunn has had exactly zero intentions of presenting a cartoon version of the character all "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" style. He even spent time with some real-life raccoons before heading into production on "Guardians of the Galaxy," filming for which wrapped on Saturday, to ensure the character will come off as realistic as possible.
So, how did that plan pan out during shooting? Just marvelously (pardon the studio pun), according to Chris Pratt a.k.a. The Star Lord.
Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" line-up is nothing if not diverse. The central cast of characters includes a giant tree guy, one gun-slinging raccoon, some hot green alien lady, and one solitary normal dude among the space adventuring crew: "Parks and Recreation" star Chris Pratt as the Peter "Star-Lord" Quill, a former U.S. pilot who's gotten himself
a serious six-pack tangled in some intergalactic tussling alongside his team of ex-con Guardians.
Pratt, who's said before that James Gunn's "Guardians" movie will flip the usual superhero story conventions with its humor and irony, has spoken up about how things have been going on the London set — according to him, this is gonna be the best friggin' movie of the century — and whether or not fans can expect a little crossover action with the big shots of "The Avengers." Per the Los Angeles Times, the muscle-bound action star finally spoke aloud (rather than just coyly Facebook-posting) on the issue of his Marvel dealings at the HFPA luncheon yesterday, answering the question of "why Groot?" with, "I'm an actor. I can do whatever the ... I want. As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice." Get More »
Boy, the 6,000-plus attendees at San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H certainly had a surprised-filled buffet on Sunday.
First, the cast of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" pulled a fast one and made a surprise panel appearance — yes, that included Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence, which is probably too much hotness in one room, even if it is gigantic. Then, none other than Tom Hiddleston himself moseyed in, dressed in full as his villainous alter-ego Loki from "Thor" and "Thor: The Dark World." Wut. Get More »
While nothing's been officially confirmed nor sworn under oath or signed on the dotted line with blood or what have you just yet, the most popular theory now concerning Benicio Del Toro's role in Marvel's forthcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie is that he'll portray Taneleer "The Collector" Tivan.
With that suspicion in mind, it's also been a commonly held belief that the character might span the Marvel (movie) Universe as he roams around trying to collect artifacts and people to stow away and protect through the destruction of the universe. And, if you hear what we're hearing from "Thor: The Dark World" star Clive Russell in a new interview with Flicks & the City, that crossover might just happen sooner than later. Get More »
"Heyyyy there Chris Pratt. May we just say first: YOW! And secondly, what's your secret to being so fit? [Hair twirl. Shifty giggle.] Wait, whaddya mean lose the booze? [Eyebrow raise. Stankface threatening to surface.] Pffft."
That was pretty much the gist of our imaginary one-way conversation with the "Guardians of the Galaxy" Star-Lord-to-be after he posted this super muscley gym selfie on his Instagram page yesterday, informing followers that by ditching all the six-packs of beer for, oh just half a year, he's been able to get so ridiculously jacked. "Avengers" director, Marvel consultant and ultimate geek icon Joss Whedon recently had an extended red carpet chat with the folks over at Collider and he revealed a startling secret: He initially thought making a "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie was a pretty bad idea.
"It seemed out there to me," Whedon said. "I sort of went, 'I don't know about this.'"
So what changed his mind? Two words: Rocket Raccoon. Get More »
Vin Diesel must give exactly zero effs about the definition of the term "secret" 'cause the uberjacked action star is developing a little history of shelling out critical deets way before he's supposed to.
In the latest instance of Mr. Muscles beating everyone else to the media punch, he's announced via his super viral Facebook page (seriously, he's like the number three most popular celeb or something) that he's just gotten himself a special meeting request from the folks at Marvel, thank you very much.
"Marvel has requested a meeting," he teased last night, "no idea what for... haha, you probably know better than me." Get More »
