Q&A: Leighton Meester Is Sunny (and Funny) Like 'The Oranges'

Leighton Meester is the kind of girl who eats chocolate ice cream.
After six years of watching her fit into the finest of couture gowns on television's "Gossip Girl," we wouldn't have believed it ourselves if we hadn't witnessed it just before our interview. But, then again, Meester is on the cusp of a whole new chapter in her career, and that's exactly when surprises should be the norm, whether they be food choices or projects.
In her new comedy, "The Oranges," out in limited release on Friday, Meester is in great company – including Hugh Laurie, Allison Janney, Oliver Platt and Adam Brody – as Nina, a lost 20-something who returns home for Thanksgiving and hooks up with her father's best friend (Laurie). She's not conniving or devilish about it like we've seen her be on "Gossip Girl" and in "That's My Boy" and "The Roommate." In fact, she even makes you root for her unlikely romance as you laugh and even question the "rules" of relationships at any age.
So, after Meester finished her tasty treat, we quizzed her about those rules, hooking up with Dr. House and, of course, the end of the chapter in her life known as "Gossip Girl." Get More »
5 Questions From Toronto: Penn Badgley
Turns out Penn Badgley is not just another pretty face – apparently he has a pretty voice as well. Who would've thought "Gossip Girl"'s Dan Humphrey could carry a tune? In his latest film, "Greetings From Tim Buckley," Badgley manages to capture the very essence of one of the most ethereal musicians of the '90s, Jeff Buckley.
Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, "Greetings From Tim Buckley" chronicles the days in the life of Jeff Buckley leading up to a tribute concert for his mostly absent father, 1960s folk artist Tim Buckley.
We caught up with a particularly chatty Badgley to talk about how he prepared to play an iconic music artist, his own personal music background and, of course, his hair. Get More »
GALLERY: That's Our Girl, Leighton Meester!
Whether it's film, television or music, Leighton Meester can do it all. To top it off, she looks great no matter what she's doing, from dazzling as a country diva in "Country Strong" to sporting Upper East Side chic in "Gossip Girl" to looking oh so scary in "The Roommate."
In fact, Leighton even makes playing a regular person look way better than most of us look in our daily lives. In her latest comedy, "That's My Boy," Leighton manages to stay looking pretty while trying to keep her fiancee, played by Andy Samberg, from partying too hard with his estranged father (Adam Sandler) on their wedding weekend.
Don't worry, though. You won't find any bridezillas here. This week's Hot People Looking Hot gallery looks anything but scary.
Before They Were Famous: Leighton Meester in 'Law & Order'
For over two decades, appearing on "Law & Order" -- or one of its nearly nine thousand spinoffs -- has been a rite of passage for actors looking to make it big in television, film and theater. If you haven't ended up dead in a back alley, on the stand in front of a righteous public defender or being grilled by a tough cop while ominous chimes chung-chung in the background, well, you're probably a nobody.
But you know who is a somebody? Leighton Meester, who appeared on "Law & Order" way back in the '90s when she was just 13 years old. Get More »
'Gossip Girl' Creator Reveals Reality of 'Young Adult'
After watching Charlize Theron in "Young Adult," we just had to know – do all YA authors chug that much Diet Coke and rip their dialogue from conversations overheard in fast food restaurants?
So we went right to the source and asked "Gossip Girl" and "The It Girl" scribe Cecily von Ziegesar to be a guest blogger and give us the skinny on just how realistic Theron's performance really was...
The more I think about Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody's excellent new film, "Young Adult," the more creeped out I get. Get More »
'Gossip Girl' Team Goes Victorian With 'The Luxe'
Lethal gossip. Fabulous clothes. Parties that are life and death. Tempestuous love affairs. It's the stuff of "Gossip Girl" but it's also the delicious and poisonous culture of the Victorian Age, and the writing and producing team behind "Girl" are going back in time to explore "The Luxe.
"The Luxe" centers on 19th century teenager Elizabeth Holland, engaged in a "Gossip"-worthy love quandrangle. What is a high society Victorian teen to do? The answer will undoubtedly burst a few corsets and cause a few monocles to drop in horror. Get More »

'Sex and the City' to Carrie on with Blake Lively?
"Sex and the City 2" may not exactly have dazzled at the box office, but it looks like clotheshorse Carrie Bradshaw may be sashaying her way back onto the big screen — and boy, is she getting a makeover!
Grazia magazine reports that "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively could be stepping into Sarah Jessica Parker's Manolo Blahniks in a prequel story about a young Carrie. The film would be based on author Candace Bushnell's young adult series, "The Carrie Diaries" -- the second book, "Summer and the City," comes out in April -- in which the 19-year-old aspiring journalist moves to the Big Apple.
"There are no plans to bring SJP and the other girls back together in the old format,” an insider tells Grazia. “The prequel is about breathing new life into the story and exploring Carrie’s first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man.” Get More »
'Gossip' Guy Ed Westwick Joins ‘J. Edgar,’ Charlize Theron Out
While partying and lip-locking may not look like the greatest challenge for actors, the cast of "Gossip Girl" as certainly parlayed their four seasons (and running) into career wins. Edgar."
Details are scarce on what areas of the infamous FBI Director's life the script will focus on, but, according to Deadline, Westwick is set to play an agent recruited to pen Hoover's biography. In the process, he uncovers some peculiar information. Get More »
