With "Fast & Furious 6" hitting theaters this weekend and a release date for a seventh "Fast" film already announced (July 11, 2014, for the record), Paul Walker's days of racing cars are far from over. As undercover agent Brian O'Conner, Walker hit the ground running — uh, speeding — back in 2001 with the first film in the hit franchise. In the latest installment, the full crew (including Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez) is back at it again, putting the pedal to the metal for yet another rush of adrenaline.

While "The Fast and the Furious" proved to be his breakout role 12 years ago, Walker also notably starred in films like "Pleasantville" (1998), "She's All That" (1999) and "Varsity Blues" (1999). Before he successfully hit the big screen, though, the blond, blue-eyed actor was just entering his teens when he appeared on the television game show "I'm Telling!"

A kiddie siblings version of "The Newlywed Game," Walker and his little sis Ashlie competed on "I'm Telling!" against other contestants in hopes of winning some pretty sweet prizes. Bikes, Juicee Slurpee coupons and the chance to move on to the Grand Prize round were just a few of the fabulous rewards for mocking your sister or brother for 30 minutes. Sounds like a win-win to us.

POW! IN THEATERS
I'm admittedly not a huge fan of the "Hangover" franchise — only in America and possibly France could such a thing spawn a franchise — so when I tell you "The Hangover Part III" has nary a laugh or even much drinking in it just take that with a grain of salt and a lime chaser. The first outing was a lame melding of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Dude, Where's My Car?" that bro culture latched on to with frightening zeal, while "Part II" found the Wolf Pack in Bangkok essentially remaking "Part I." This third jam has Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis (at his schtickiest) on a quest to deliver coked-out Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong) to an evil mobster played by John Goodman who's holding the ever-useless Doug (Justin Bartha) hostage. Breaking the formula was a good idea, but everyone including director Todd Phillips is just going through the motions; stay through the closing credits for a gag that spells out clearly just how tired the joke is, even to them.

BASIC CABLE BLUES
Yeah, I know I just trashed it in the capsule above, but hell, if you want to realize how much the boys have grown in four years (answer: not much) then check out 2009's original "The Hangover" on TBS at 9 p.m. Besides the chemistry between the three leads, what made this one work was a genuinely clever mystery at its core as the three wasted schmucks wake up with no memory of the previous evening's degenerate behavior despite ample clues (missing tooth, a tiger, a baby). Of course TBS will have to edit out most of the fun parts, but if you're entertaining your grandpa for Memorial Day weekend this one is a good bet.

PODCASTAWAY
Anyone who fancies themselves a screenwriter but hasn't quite cracked it yet will get a lot of juice from the podcast "Scriptnotes" with John August (writer of "Go" as well as Tim Burton's go-to guy) and Craig Mazin (the culprit behind two-thirds of the "Hangover" trilogy). Their repartee often consists of Mazin going on long screeds while August replies with a dry "Uh-huh, moving on," like Woody Allen kvetching to Data from "Star Trek." It's all gold, though. These are two successful professionals giving you lots of writing tips without ever putting a gun to your head saying, "This is the way!" Their 3-Page Challenge dissections of reader submissions are brutal, but they're both willing to turn that same critique beam on themselves. This week's episode focuses on the importance of writing effective transitions … which should never involve an old-timey camera flashbulb going off.

POW! IN THEATERS
First of all, "Fast & Furious 6" is dumb. Totes dumb. It also happens to be monstrously entertaining, never slowing down for as much as a split second, not to mention allowing everyone in the ample ensemble a moment or three to shine. While the previous films took their cues from "Smokey and the Bandit" meets "The Road Warrior," this one has honed in on an international Roger Moore-era 007-with-rims vibe as Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew get back behind the wheel when Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) discovers thought-dead Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is working for an international criminal douchebag-cum-terrorist (Luke Evans). A climactic chase scene on an airplane runway goes on for at least TWENTY MILES ... but director Justin Lin knows that and flaunts that excess as a plus, not a minus. There were at least eight rounds of applause scattered throughout my screening, something I can say for neither "Star Trek" nor "Hangover III."

YOUTUBE IT!
Vin Diesel's utter likeability is part of what gives the "Fast" franchise its oomph, and having met the guy before I can say that charisma is the real deal. If you want to meet the real Vin then why not go back to his 1994 calling card short "Multi-Facial," available in its entirety on YouTube. No, it's not a crazy Japanese bukkake video, it's a sensitive look at the racial politics involved in landing an acting gig, something The Deez knew well with his half-Italian/half-African American background. The film itself, which he wrote/produced/directed, is very much a 20-minute audition piece (which landed him a part in "Saving Private Ryan"), although its argument against pigeonholing actors based on looks is poignant. You can watch "Multi-Facial" in two parts below:

NETFLIX RECOMMENDS WITH A VENGEANCE
So you're a true blue fan of the "Fast & Furious," huh? Then let's dip back to the long forgotten 1955 B-movie it sprang from, or at least the title. "The Fast and the Furious," available on Netflix Streaming, stars John Ireland as an innocent framed for murder on the run from Johnny Law and Dorothy Malone as the whip-smart dame he kidnaps as he commandeers her fast roadster to Mexico. Along the way they fall in love and enter a cross-border sports car race … convenient! This was legendary producer Roger Corman's first movie, and he literally started with a bang: a truck explodes five seconds into the movie, followed immediately by a car chase through the credits. It also includes this amazing dialogue exchange:

-How'd the cops find out?
-I turned you in.
-How'd you get out?
-Set the building on fire.
-You're a pretty dangerous character yourself.

THE CON IS ON
They're gonna be barbequing up some nerdery with a side of geek fricassee at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX  as Comicpalooza: The Texas International Comic Con tractor-beams a galaxy of stars to the Lone Star State. Pay top dollar for autographs from "Fast & Furious 6" resurrection Michelle Rodriguez (today only), machete-wielding Mexican Danny Trejo, captain of the Enterprise emeritus Patrick Stewart, comic artist legend Bernie Wrightson (who designed creatures for "Ghostbusters" and "The Mist") and, why not, Chewbacca himself, Peter Mayhew. Somebody PLEASE ask him if he's gonna be in "Star Wars: Episode VII," just one of you! C'mon!

MASTER OF THE ART HOUSE
Can lightning strike thrice? That's the question most of you "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset" fans will want to know before going into "Before Midnight," so rest assured it's just as charming, illuminating and well-observed as the other two. It is without hesitation my "Survivor of Thunderdome" for the week. The easy chemistry between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy is tested this time around by the fact that their characters are not meeting or catching up but have actually been together since the last movie, spawning adorable twin girls along with myriad resentments that come crashing down on them in the bitter third act. Richard Linklater brilliantly structures the film to be idyllic even as pleasantly dicey barbs pass between the two, only to quickly escalate into full-blown anger towards the end. If that's not love I dunno what is. Bonus points for the excellent plucky guitar soundtrack by Graham Reynolds.

PAY CHANNEL PAYBACK
Getting rave notices out of Cannes is Steven Soderbergh's supposed "swan song" as a film director, "Behind the Candelabra," premiering at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. tonight on HBO. The network was apparently the only place that Sodie could get financing for his Liberace biopic, which despite heavyweight stars like Michael Douglas and Matt Damon was deemed "too gay" for theatrical release. Too gay? Okay, maybe, but Michael Douglas looks like he totally nails the essence of perhaps the biggest entertainer of the 20th century. As if it wasn't gay enough, HBO strategically placed Soderbergh's "Magic Mike" (premiering Sat night at 8 p.m.) before it tonight at 7 p.m. Go get 'em, boys!

Magnet

NEW ON BLU
The most enjoyable part of "The ABCs of Death," now on Blu-ray from Magnet, is arguing with your drunken friends about which piece was the best. Twenty-six directors from all over the place (get ready to read some subtitles) were given free reign to shed blood with gallons of ingenuity (and red corn syrup) corresponding to each letter of the alphabet. The five best segments IMHO:

- D is for Dogfight (guy boxes a dog in slow motion)
- O is for Orgasm (can't even describe this one)
- S is for Speed (amazing "Road Warrior"/Russ Meyer homage)
- V is for Vagitus (sci-fi adrenaline rush)
- Y is for Youngbuck (pedophile rape revenge involving deer)

"V" is especially victorious, with Canadian comic book artist Kaare Andrews lapping all 25 others in terms of look, effects and ingenuity. It's also the only short that begs for a full-length extension, with its intricate future dystopia of giant robots hunting psychics trying to breed illegally. The Blu-ray/DVD features are broken up by segment, and while not all are represented most of the good ones are; meanwhile, Drafthouse Films has also crafted a limited run (666 copies) of "The ABCs of Death" in children's book form, with accompanying Blu-ray.

HULU HEAVEN
Some of my favorite pieces in "The ABCs of Death" are the Japanese ones, especially the one about the lady who dies inside her lesbian crush's fart. You have to see it. It got me in the mood for more J-horror anthologies … wait, what's this we have here? Straight from the Criterion Collection to your eye and ear holes comes Masaki Kobayashi's horror anthology film "Kwaidan" on HULU fo free yo. Unlike "The ABCs of Death" and its tiny bite-sized segments, this one has four long-ish spine-melting ghost stories from the pages of Japanese folklore. The artificially stagebound atmosphere only adds to the eeriness, especially the segment about a vengeful snow demon. You can watch it below in its entirety:

Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day)

BASIC CABLE BLUES
Memorial Day has become synonymous with waterslides and beach trips, but it's also kinda about the brave men and women who've served our country in various wars, skirmishes and quagmires throughout the world. TCM has an all-day salute to the greatest generation of fightin' army, but the plum pick would have to be "The Guns of Navarone" at 9 a.m. Gregory Peck leads a ragtag group of Allied commandos charged with taking down an impenetrable fortress housing German super-weapons along the Mediterranean.

Summit

If its modern conflict you need a fix of then march on over to FX, which takes you behind enemy lines with extreme prejudice via 2009's Best Picture winner "The Hurt Locker" at 12 p.m. followed by Ridley Scott's 2001  examination of the 1993 Somali fiasco "Black Hawk Down" at 3 p.m.

AMC is running a similar batch of soldier's stories, and for all you jingos I recommend John Wayne's 1968 directorial effort "The Green Berets" at 8 p.m., which has the distinction of being the only major movie about the Vietnam War actually made during the Vietnam War. It's flag-waving rah-rah patriotism the way only the Duke could dish it out. Forget all that hippy dippy, America-bashing "Apocalypse Now"/ "Platoon"/ "Full Metal Jacket" bulls**t — this is the real deal.

As I ride off into the distant horizon, here's wishing you fellow weekend road warriors the best outing possible from this burnt-out, blighted wasteland. Enjoy your fast Internet, clean-ish movie theaters, plentiful gasoline and all the comforts of home, for this world lives now only in my memories …

Those of you who caught it at Sundance earlier this year know it as "Toy's House," but now the newly-titled "The Kings of Summer" is ready to break free from the snowy boundaries of Park City to begin its reign as the indie film choice of the Summer 2013 movie season.

This unique and heartfelt coming-of-age comedy chronicles the rugged adventures of three teenage friends — Joe (Nick Robinson), Patrick (Gabriel Basso) and Biaggio (Moises Arias) — who run away from home to spend the summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. The three young leads are certainly poised for superstardom, though the occasional scene is stolen by the grown-ups that make up the supporting cast, including "Parks and Recreation" co-stars, American treasures and real-life couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally.

Check out the exclusive TV spot for the film above, and bow down to "The Kings of Summer" when it hits theaters on May 31. And don't forget the pasta and canned goods.

Innocent pedestrians would be forgiven for crossing to the other side of the street at the sight of Ken Jeong. After all, the 43-year-old actor is best known for playing the criminally insane Leslie Chow in the successful "Hangover" trilogy. (This when he isn't playing the often equally insane Senor Chang on the NBC series "Community.") For many, the enduring image associated with Jeong's name is that moment in "The Hangover" when he jumped out of a car trunk, naked and screaming, and wrapped his legs around poor, innocent Bradley Cooper's neck. Yikes.

Jeong gets to say "toodaloo motherf***ers" to Mr. Chow in this weekend's "The Hangover Part III," acting as the movie's central antagonist and main provocateur. The man himself couldn't be further from his character, however: In conversation, the father of two is earnest and nice. He even maintains his medical license. (Jeong was a physician before he decided to pursue acting and comedy.)

We caught up with Jeong ahead of the release of "The Hangover Part III" to talk about the franchise's finale, Harry Potter and (the lack of) Mr. Chow impersonators.

You're calling me from Vegas! Are you getting to enjoy the city at all?
Um, no, I've pretty much been in interviews all day! But at night, we did go to an Elton John concert and had a fantastic time, and we did get to meet Sir Elton backstage, which was definitely something I'll never forget. He was amazing. It was an amazing concert.

Outside of the movies, have you gotten to do the whole Vegas thing before?
I've been to Vegas several times, way before the "Hangover" movies. I had my own bachelor party here in Vegas, my wife had her bachelorette party here in Vegas. My wife and I, we're doctors, and we would go to medical conferences here in Vegas. So we have a long history with Vegas that we love.

Any experiences worthy of being included in "The Hangover"?
Oh, no. Oh no. I don't live a life of danger. I live a life of boredom, so that's still good enough.

What's your favorite casino game?
No, I play some blackjack occasionally, very occasionally. And very badly, I might add.

I read that you keep your medical license current still. Would you ever give it up?
No, I'll always keep my medical license. I can't practice the way I practiced before, before I became so widely recognizable, but I do think that behind the scenes there are other ways to be a doctor.

I'm sure you can't really practice regularly.
Oh, no, I don't practice at all right now. No, no. I think when you hit a certain level of acting and also face recognition, there are other ways to make a contribution.

When people recognize you, what do they say?
Oh, yeah. They yell out "toodaloo, motherf***er" all the time. All the time. At least once a week. And it's great! It always makes me laugh. It still hasn't stopped making me laugh after four years. I actually genuinely love it, I love the Chow character, it's my favorite character I've ever played, so it's hard not to like. People yell out quotes from the movie, especially in Vegas. I'm probably recognized more here than in any other city in the world, so it's like this collective big hug from a town. It's pretty amazing.

Have you ever seen someone dressed like you?
No, I actually have not. I haven't ventured out to where the "Hangover" impersonators are. I don't know. I know Zach [Galifianakis] and some of the guys have met them, but I don't know if there's a Chow guy out there. I really don't know.

You make it sound like there's a specific Hangover impersonators district.
In Vegas, somewhere on the strip. Yeah, you take this block, I'll take this block.

What aspect of your personality is most like Chow's?
Um, we both love to laugh? I'm a good laugher. I'll go to any movie, any comedy, both me and my wife, we're just the loudest laughers in the world, so we have that in common. There's a sense of like when it's called for I can potentially be a little fearless, but not all the time in life. There's a sense of fearlessness I do respond to, but I'm not nearly as fearless as Chow. I'm full of anxiety most of the time in most situations, and pretty much nothing else. Chow is the devil, you know, he's pure evil. Make no mistake about it. I know I'm playing that character. The Wolf Pack is basically dealing with the devil for three movies, and for Allen to move on with his life, he's gotta dance with the devil one more time. It's when the Wolf Pack thinks the devil's not there, he's always there.

You both have a propensity for stealing gold bricks.
[laughing] I've never seen, I'd be scared holding anything gold, I wouldn't know what to do with it. I wouldn't know what to do.

One of the movie's posters was a take on "Harry Potter." Are you more of a Harry or Voldemort?
In real life I'm Harry, but if I choose as an actor what I want to play, I'd want to play Voldemort.

What house would you be?
What house would I be? Single story. Because it would be, yeah. I don't like stairs and that's because I have kids. So our house would like a wider base house that is just designed to be a kid's house. It's designed for kids. That's a great question.

I meant in Harry Potter, but a literal house is good, too. In the movie, Mr. Chow sings "Hurt" at karaoke. Do you have a karaoke jam?
I love Guns 'N Roses, "Patience." I love that one.

Are you a good singer?
I'm, I think I'm a good karaoke singer. In fact, those are my instincts. I used to sing a lot at a karaoke bar when I was in med school in New Orleans, so I was really into karaoke, so my instinct was to sing that song really well, and [director] Todd [Phillips] was like, "What are you doing? We want him to be nervous and vulnerable, so DON'T sing well, don't do that." He was so right, to do it nervously and then swat the microphone away. That made me laugh, that was all Todd's genius. That's why "Hangover III" is the best thing I've ever done, because of Todd's guidance. He knew when to give me latitude, he knew when to rein me in. He knew when to give me direction on something I hadn't really thought of. He really knew how to cultivate my instincts even more as an actor.

He's like, "That's beautiful. Stop it."
Yeah, exactly! That's exactly it. Basically what he said: [in a deep voice] "Ken, that sounds gorgeous. Stop it."

In a fight to the death amongst your cast, who would win?
Chow. I mean, yeah. Chow. You know, he's evil. He's the devil. He's an international criminal.

Funny or Die

Here lies a true fact: There have only been 17 total episodes of Zach Galifianakis' "Between Two Ferns." Doesn't that surprise you? Meaning, it surprises me, so shouldn't it surprise you?

The esteemed Funny or Die web series has made such a massive comedic impact in such a limited amount of time that the idea that it exists as only a mere 80ish minutes of total running time is downright absurd. And here's the kicker: They're all gold. There's not a single episode of BTF that one would call "weak," just "weaker than the exceptional."

The following episodes are the exceptional.

5. Jon Hamm

If your intent is to find the ideal episode to introduce someone to the BTF series for the first time, the one with Jon Hamm might be your best bet. Of all episodes that don't feature some extreme outlier, be it overt weirdness, overt cruelty, a musical performance midway through the interview, etc., Hamm's episode — the third of the series — delivers most from a pure laughs standpoint. Galifianakis asking Hamm if he has ever fingered any of the female cast members of "Mad Men" (to which Hamm asks if he means fingering in a police lineup) would make any "Best 'Between Two Ferns' Lines Ever" list, so long as the list's maker wasn't someone who was wrong a lot.

4. Ben Stiller

The Ben Stiller episode safely makes the Top 5 for two specific reasons: 1) Galifianakis is so unbelievably mean and disrespectful towards Stiller, yet the meanness never transcends the comedy. "Because people down there wouldn't like that ... and they're stupid enough to go to your f**king movies [heavy sigh]" is perfect. 2) You can't help but get the feeling that Stiller has been down this road before, except for real. The faces he makes aren't so much "uncomfortable" — at least to the degree that actors on other episodes sometimes strain to make their best "uncomfortable" face — as they are confrontational, as if they come from experience. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, Ben, but I'm thinking this might not be your first "interviewer is a dick" rodeo.

3. Tila Tequila and Jennifer Aniston

Galfianakis does a straight, respectful interview with Tila Tequila — the first interview guest, typically reserved for the bigger star, of course — while all but ignoring Jennifer Aniston after she's finally brought out. When he doesn't ignore Aniston, he has Tequila talk about herself to her. There's a lot of talk among dumb Internet people about whether or not the actors are in on the joke or not with each BTF episode. SPOILER: Of course they are ...with the possible exception of Tequila. Or at least, if Galifianakis eventually admitted "Yeah, Tila had absolutely no idea this wasn't a real interview show," I wouldn't be remotely surprised, and neither would you.

2. Steve Carell

This being the ninth episode of the series, Steve Carell preempts Galifianakis' verbal beatdown by bringing along a few meticulously-planned insults of his own, mostly targeting Zach's pudginess. Zach starts crying, and Carell, being a renowned nice person, feels remorse for what he's done. Apologies quickly turn back to jabs, however, and soon they're ready to fight again. The episode is pretty much made by Carell's performance in what is probably the best straight-up acting in any of the 17 episodes, which just makes you even more upset that he somehow never won an Emmy for playing Michael Scott on "The Office."

1. Michael Cera

Appropriately, the debut episode of the series still ranks as the all-time best, and that sentiment isn't even contrivedly based in nostalgia the way we all love George Washington for some reason.* The fact that Michael Cera somehow doesn't break when Galifianakis is either tickling his thigh or trying to have Cera tickle his thigh (that will be a weird sentence to read if you haven't watched the video yet) officially means that Cera deserves every Oscar from the next 79 Academy Award ceremonies. Obviously, Cera's unmatched awkwardness plays right into the show's intentions, and it's a beautiful, ticklish marriage of hilariousness.

This week sees the release of the third installment of Richard Linklater's now-legendary "Before" series (Can we call it the "Before" series? Tell you what, we're calling it the "Before" series), where Ethan Hawke's Jesse and Julie Delpy's Celine intimately discuss the complex nuances of life and love, employing every vast, desolate corner of the English language in the process.

In a NextMovie exclusive (meaning, we went through Linklater's trash), we've stumbled upon a deleted scene from the script of "Before Midnight" that was unfortunately rendered a wee bit dated since Linklater first wrote it sometime between 2005 and 2007. It becomes increasingly obvious why the scene didn't make the final cut of the film.

Boy, writer/director Richard Linklater sure enjoys his "one well-matched couple articulately dissect every facet of life and love" movies, doesn't he? He also likes the word "Before" a lot.

Are ye prepared for the Rapture?

You know it's the end of all things when it rains blood, zombies crave joints and you're mocked by foul-mouthed cockroaches and crows ("F**k you, caw!" exclaims one of the latter rude creatures). And you know things are really going to hell in a handbasket when the Antichrist appears, taking the form of a piano-playing Craig Robinson in very, very loud purple and yellow suits.

"Rapture-Palooza" chronicles the Apocalypse as seen through the disaffected hipster eyes of Lindsey (Anna Kendrick) and Ben (John Francis Daley), a young couple who might just hold the key to saving what's left of humanity after Beast (that's what the Antichrist likes to call himself) takes a shine to the lovely Lindsey. Can these two fulfill a prophecy that says the Beast will be defeated and locked away for a thousand years? As long as they don't blast away Jesus himself with a laser beam, they might have a shot.

You know, every so often schools are able to wrangle in someone actually interesting to deliver a few notes of wisdom — some more often than others (cough Harvard cough). Even better, once in a while they're our very shiniest movie stars who make lots of funnies and deliver all the feels and suddenly the speeches don't seem so bad.

Here's a tip-o'-the-grad cap to whoever lined up these 13 awesome movie star speeches. Fair warning: This may enhance the bore factor of your regular, non-famous speaker. Sorry 'bout that.

13. Steve Carell

Like most graduation day speakers, Steve Carell had some pointers for the Princeton University Class of 2012 ... only, they were a tad unconventional (note: this does not mean inaccurate), like "Remember that the words 'regime' and 'regimen' are not interchangeable" and "Get a dog, because cats are lame." Mostly importantly, "Do something kind, make someone laugh and don't take yourself too seriously." His mouth straight to our ears.

12. Patrick Wilson

Patrick Wilson was far from "Insidious" when addressing last year's graduating class at his former stomping grounds alma mater Carnegie Mellon; he was downright "Morning Glory." Okay, those puns were pretty amateur, but what else is there to say about a speech that slings out some truth like this little ditty: "Remember what the passion is in your life. Hold on to that which gives you hope. Grip it close to you and don’t let it go." Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

11. Viola Davis

The amazing Viola Davis lived up to that reputation with her speech at the Providence College graduation last year by delving into her own heartstrings-pulling life story. "At 38, I got married in a white dress. I thought never in my life will I get married ... Someone told me, 'Well, marriage is like a death … you die to yourself.' And there I was the next day, reciting those vows with great joy. And children, no images of being a 46-year-old mother with a 2-year-old child entered the realms of my imagination.  Yet once again, here I am, facilitating a life, guiding with the knowledge that I cannot protect, but only love." What a lovely and genuine gem.

10. Andy Samberg

As mentioned above, Harvard gets the significant load share of legit talent for its grad day stage work. Why? Well, as Andy Samberg told its Class of 2012-ers, "Harvard remains iconic in our culture." A+ homework on that note. With that in mind, Samberg had an important message for the people in the room who'd actually walk away from the day with a degree from America's most renowned. "Relax, dude!" he said. "You just finished college at Harvard." For serious.

9. Peter Dinklage

Bennington College's Class of 2012 got more than just a wee bit-o-self-awareness when "X-Men: Days of Future Past" star Peter Dinklage took the stage to deliver their graduation speech; they got a pot of gold, really. "I waited a long time out in the world before I gave myself permission to fail," he remembered. "Please don't even bother asking. Don't bother telling the world you are ready. Show it. Do it." Yessir!

8. Jodie Foster

We still haven't fully synthesized Jodie Foster's Golden Globes speech, but her chat with Penn's Class of 2006 was on point ... especially when she came up with the bag of experience euphemism for life's many little blemishes. "You pick up bits and pieces of treasure and trash, pain and pleasure, passions and disappointments and you start stuffing them in your bag ... your big bag of experience." Now there's a good way to wipe away the sins of the undergrad, uh, experience.

7. Robert De Niro

When you're Robert De Niro, you can do the heavy, no problem, but you're totally with the funny business, too. Bates College got a taste of both during its 2012 commencement ceremony. "When you're a movie star, you can coast," he flirted with the attentive crowd. "For example, who remembers the last really good successful picture I made? C'mon. Anyone? It doesn't matter. I’m still getting the big bucks that Will Ferrell wishes he were getting ... I want you to know under this movie star exterior is a real person. Just like you. Nah, I really didn't mean that. That was acting. You see, I still got it."

6. Amy Poehler

Okay, so Amy Poehler is primarily a TV star right now, but her awesomeness transcends the entertainment mediums (speaking of, where's that book already?!). During her speech to the Harvard — See?! — Class of 2011, she shelled out a few valuable live and learn-ers. "I moved to Chicago in the early 1990s and I studied improvisation there," she recounted. "I learned some rules that I try to apply still today: Listen. Say yes. Live in the moment. Make sure you play with people who have your back. Make big choices early and often. Don't start a scene where two people are talking about jumping out of a plane. Start the scene having already jumped. If you're scared, look into your partner's eyes — you will feel better." And we're guessing by partner she means our other pretend "Baby Mama" Tina Fey?

5. Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington wasn't afraid to admit his own shortcomings and fears to the University of Pennsylvania's Class of 2011  in order to commiserate with their own pending doom. "First … you will fail at some point in your life. Accept it. You will lose.  You will embarrass yourself. You will suck at something. There is no doubt about it," he blithely warned. "That's probably not a traditional message for a graduation ceremony.  But, hey, I'm telling you — embrace it. Because it's inevitable." He reserved the optimism and good cheer for later on.

4. Sacha Baron Cohen

In another instance of Harvard reeling in the most entertaining at the podium, Sacha Baron Cohen showed up for the Class of 2004 as Ali G "coz me wanted to talk to de brightest minds of our generation" and "and also coz dey agreed to pay for me flight over here and hotel room." So, things started out on a rather festive note indeed (... with the English majors in the crowd busy contracting TMJ). Even so, he ultimately delivered a pretty solid point about the unification of mankind: "I look out and I see thousands of people wiv different hopes and different dreams — but it is important never to forget where you all came from — becoz black, white, brown or Pakistani we all comes from de same place — de punani."

3. Meryl Streep

Hollywood's living legendette made sure we could understand just why everyone fusses over the biz of "pretending" during her speech to the Barnard College Class of 2010. "Pretending is not just play," Meryl Streep cooed after a clever little aside about all the kissing actors have to do (co-stars, enemies, a**es). "Pretending is imagined possibility. Pretending or acting is a very valuable life skill and we all do it all the time. We don't want to be caught doing it, but nevertheless, it's part of the adaptation of our species. We change who we are to fit the exigencies of our time. And not just strategically or to our own advantage, sometimes sympathetically without our even knowing it for the betterment of our own group." So why is it that we don't we call her Dame again?

2. Will Ferrell

Before breaking into song — no, literally, that happened, and he funneled a beer Frank the Tank-style — Will Ferrell offered up some pretty good advice to the Harvard graduates of 2003: Pay your taxes. "You know, I sincerely hope you enjoy this next chapter of your life because it's really going to be great, as long as you pay your taxes," he said. "And don't just take a year off because you think Uncle Sam is snoozing at the wheel because he will descend upon you like a hawk from hell. Let's just put it this way: After some past indiscretions with the IRS, my take-home pay last year was $9,000." Noted.

1. Tom Hanks

But of course America's most trusted man gives good speech. Tom Hanks addressed Yale University's Class of 2011 with all the finesse and good old fashioned-ness he's been sporting for decades. Perhaps it was the Mayan Calendar conspiracy at bay or the fact that the country was still actively mixed in two wars, but the theme of Tom Hanks' commencement address was fear ... and how to avoid being crippled by it. "Fear has become the commodity that sells as certainly as sex ... Fear is cheap, fear is easy, fear gets attention." He then challenged the day's graduates "to stand on the fulcrum between fear and faith — fear at your back, faith in front of you ... tweet out a picture of the results," of course. Whaddaguy.

Thankfully, we've followed some of your favorite movies through to their logical next steps so that when you watch them again on DVD or at their inevitable 3-D re-release, you won't have to waste mental energy asking questions like "Whatever happened to that guy?" and can move on to more important stuff like "What's the meaning of life?" and "Who the hell ate my Girl Scout cookies?"

There are few activities more American — and none more excruciating — than a good ol' family road trip across this giant boring country of ours. And the brilliant comedy "National Lampoon's Vacation," which is getting a newfangled 30-year anniversary Blu-ray release this week, sums up those carsick sensations of summer with pitch-perfect gags.

Based on an autobiographical short story in National Lampoon magazine, John Hughes' hilarious screenplay eloquently expresses the universal truth that nothing drives a family apart faster than a long drive together. So with this classic celebrating its 30th anniversary this summer, we're reviewing some life lessons learned by the Griswolds on the holiday road.

Lesson #1: Car Salesmen are Not Always Trustworthy

On rare occasion, an unsavory car dealer will attempt to sell you an automobile not ideal for your personal needs and finances. And all the attributes of that hypothetically ill-suited vehicle come standard in the Wagon Queen Family Truckster.

Lesson #2: Pimps Give Horrible Directions

This lesson should be too obvious to even bother mentioning: When driving your family through the 'hood of East St. Louis, don't stop the car to ask a pimp for directions. That's insane. Ask a hooker. They're the ones walking the streets and can give you the lay of the land.

Lesson #3: Father-Son Talks Are Best Left Unspoken

Whether introducing Rusty (Anthony Michael Hall) to his "first" sip of beer (which Rusty expertly chugs) or ineptly lying about his infidelity (which Rusty sees right through), every time Clark (Chevy Chase) sits down with his son for an awkward chat, he further makes the case that a man-to-man talk between a dad and his boy are to be avoided at all costs.

Lesson #4: There's Nothing Like Country Living

Stopping in for a Hamburger Helper dinner (sans hamburger) with charmingly rural cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) and his family of deformed/creepy children, the Griswolds are reminded why they don't live in the country.

Lesson #5: Get to Know Your Family

The Griswold children, Rusty and Audrey, find that, despite the cultural divide between them and their Kansas cousins, a shared interest in porn and marijuana brings them together.

Lesson #6: Murdering a Family Pet Has Its Downsides

A distracted mind and tying your great aunt's annoying dog Dinky to your back bumper at a rest stop is a recipe for tragedy, as Clark discovers a few minutes (and 55 miles per hour) too late. Not only does this dog-walk from hell get Clark pulled over by a K-9 loving cop, but it probably scars his family emotionally for life.

Lesson #7: Always Bring a Body Bag

On a long road trip, elderly travelers might complete their journey prematurely, as Aunt Edna does in the backseat of the Griswold's station wagon. And because the family was remiss in not bringing proper storage containers for corpses, the old bag rides to Phoenix strapped to the luggage rack.

Lesson #8: Don't Nap While Driving

Like most men, Clark believes himself to be an amazing driver. And lack of consciousness won't keep him from making good time, even if it impedes his ability to obey traffic lights and stay on the road.

Lesson #9: Park By the Exit

This brings us to the only lesson Clark teaches us that's not in the form of a cautionary tale: When you arrive at Walley World, park your car by the lot's exit so that, at the end of the day, you'll be the first to escape. It's actually a good idea! It also gives you ample room to run in slow motion towards the Wally World entrance.

Lesson #10: Invest in a Rooftop Carrier

Strapping luggage to the roof will most likely result in your luggage falling off the roof.

Lesson #11: Clothes Make the Man

If there's one important truth to be absorbed while watching "National Lampoon's Vacation," it's that a Members Only jacket and shiny white slip-on shoes will land you in a pool, skinny-dipping with Christie Brinkley (that's how Billy Joel did it).

Lesson #12: Wives Hate When You Skinny-Dip With Christie Brinkley

Based on the reaction by Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), it appears that wives are not in favor of swimming naked with models. No matter how innocent one's intent, one never knows what assumptions others will glean from such a situation.

Lesson #13: For God's Sake, Call Ahead

If you're going to drive 2,000-plus miles to a Moose-themed park with your family, costing you your life savings, your marriage and two lives, please simply call ahead to make sure the park won't be closed for repairs when you get there.

Lesson #14: When All Else Fails, Take Hostages

At the end of their interstate Odyssey, the Griswolds arrive at Walley World, only to learn the park is closed for two weeks. And Clark makes the right choice: he breaks in with his family, takes the security guard (John Candy) hostage at gunpoint and, as you'd expect, the result is laughter and good times!

Lesson #15: Just Take a Plane

Some facts to consider: Airplanes travel ten times the speed of a car, are far safer and each passenger is served a free half-can of soda. And if, like Clark Griswold, your response to that is "the trip to the destination is half the fun," perhaps you should reconsider your choice of destination. Hawaii, maybe?

Perhaps the most prolific and reliable character actor of the last 20 years, Luis Guzman is nothing short of an American treasure. Think of your favorite movie right now — was Luis Guzman in it? There is statistically a 23.9% chance you just said "Yes." That's Luis's career in a nutshell. No one plays the goofy, lovable criminal, sidekick or law enforcement officer better than Guzman, and everyone in Hollywood knows it — that's why he's been in approximately 5,891 movies since 1990.

Guzman recently co-starred in "The Last Stand" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Johnny Knoxville, where he played a deputy sheriff to Schwarzenegger's head honcho. "The Last Stand" is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Luis recently spoke with NextMovie about "The Power of Love," turning down Adam Sandler's private jet, and "Do It."

Congratulations on "The Last Stand." You co-star with Arnold Schwarzenegger — the movie is noteworthy for being his first starring vehicle since he stepped down from the governorship. If you were the governor of California, what would be the first thing you'd change?
I'd probably say that at the end of my first term, 50% of cars would be electric cars.

In "The Last Stand," you have a memorable scene where you take out like ten guys with a Tommy gun. What's the most memorable weapon you've ever used on a movie set?
I think it was a glock machine gun. It was a TV show.

Which show?
It was like "New York Undercover," or something like that.

And that one was more memorable?
Well, this one [on "The Last Stand"] was memorable in the sense that it was an old-school kind of Tommy gun. It was heavy as hell. Then again, for me it was like the "hero shot" of the movie. How the hell could anyone survive that explosion from a grenade? I have to put the Tommy gun up there.

Well, especially because you come out of the fire, you pick up the hat, it's very dramatic ... I mean you kind of blow everyone away. So I'm kind of surprised it's not at the top.
It was very old-school.

Everyone and their mom has an Arnold impression. Do you have one? Can I hear it?
The only one I know is "I'll be back."

Did that imitation get any better after working with him? Or did you have that beforehand?
Oh man, I've always had that beforehand. Are you kidding me? I grew up watching the guy! I would never do that in front of him, though, I leave that up to him.

Would you be too scared to do it in front of him?
Nope. I'd just leave it up to the man himself. I'd do it in front of my friends, and all that stuff.

What's your favorite roll of yours that wasn't a cop or a criminal?
I would have to say it was this movie I shot in Puerto Rico, a little movie called "Maldeamores" — "Lovesickness." And I played a husband who was cheating on his wife with his cousin.

Hey now. You're obviously known for how much you work. You've been around the block — have you ever been legitimately starstruck on a movie set?
Yeah, I have, actually! S**t, the first time that I got to work with Sidney Lumet I was starstruck, because he's a phenomenal director and had an incredible history. I was starstruck when I did "Anger Management" and got to work with Jack Nicholson. You know, who wouldn't be starstruck by Jack, right? And he was absolutely a really cool guy. And ... I guess the only other guy I was that starstruck by was when I had the chance to meet Michael Jordan. And I got to spend a half hour with him, one on one. He was shooting a commercial and I was shooting a show on the stage next door. And one of the PAs came up and said, "Hey, Michael Jordan is next door." And I walked in, and he recognized me. And all we did was talk about family, we didn't even talk about basketball. And to this day, he's a good friend.

You starred in a short movie called "I Kicked Luis Guzman in the Face" in 2008. Has anyone actually kicked you in the face and lived to tell about it?
My kids, horsing around with me. They're still around.

That's good. I'm glad.
I think it was my son. But you know, it happens. But I don't think anybody has like, ever even thought of attempting to walk up to me and kick me in the face. That would be bad news.

Do you sometimes look at your IMDb page and get lost? Like, do you look at it and remember a movie you did in 1998 for the first time in years?
Yeah I do go through it every once in a blue moon. And I say, "Oh my God, man, what an incredible journey." To me, it's all been a journey. And it's pretty amazing, and pretty impressive. And quite frankly, I'm pretty wowed by it because it just goes to show the reward if someone puts in the work.

There's the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game — shouldn't there be the "Three Degrees of Luis Guzman" game?
Yeah I think it's down to like 2.4 now. It's amazing, it's just so amazing because like ... you've been in this business long enough and you work with everybody, and everybody else has worked with everybody, and so, it's pretty amazing. For that matter, I might be on a movie set, and you meet somebody for the first time, and they say, "Oh hey man, I'm friends with so and so and they speak highly of you," and stuff like that. It's all cool. And like I said, there's one word for that: Amazing.

What's the longest you've gone without working in the last 15 years? Is it longer than a month?
I think I took a year off a few years back, on purpose, because I wanted to be home for a whole year to see my kids grow up. Sometimes you gotta make those decisions. I'll tell you an interesting story: We had done "Punch-Drunk Love." I get a call from Adam Sandler, he was flying to New Hampshire on a private jet. And he said "Hey, I'm gonna send a car to pick you up, and we're gonna go to Cannes together. And we're gonna premiere 'Punch-Drunk Love' at Cannes." And as I'm having that conversation with him, at the time, my son must have been six years old, and he starts tugging on me, and he asks me, "Hey Pop, you're not gonna miss my basketball game, are you?"

Ugh.
I looked at the kid's eyes, and I talked to Adam, and I said, "Adam, there's something bigger in my life right now." And I didn't go. I went to my kid's basketball game.

What did you buy with your first Hollywood paycheck?
I bought a car that my best friend totaled the next day.

Sorry to hear that. What's your go-to karaoke song?
Oh man, my go-to karaoke song is uh ... oh s**t, I know it too, give me a second. My go-to karaoke song ... it's "The Power of Love."

Awesome. I wish I could see you perform "The Power of Love."

I'm gonna go out on a limb, I'm gonna have to say it's "Boogie Nights."

"Carlito's Way" was a great movie. "The Limey." "Punch-Drunk Love." "The Count of Monte Cristo." "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." I'm sorry that it wasn't "The Last Stand."

This week: Steven Soderbergh's supposedly final film "Side Effects" is a psychological thriller starring Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones. We tell you why it's a final work worth checking out.

Storyline: This twisty tale from Steven Soderbergh is about a woman named Emily (Rooney Mara) who turns to psychiatrist Dr. Banks (Jude Law) to help her deal with her intense anxiety attacks after her husband (Channing Tatum) is released from jail. After Banks prescribes an experimental drug to Emily, the side effects have deadly consequences and Banks reaches out to Emily's former shrink (Catherine Zeta-Jones) for advice.
Extras!: Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain a spoof of typical behind-the-scenes featurettes filmed by "amateur photographer" Zeta-Jones in which she identifies the rest of the cast as Academy Award losers, a fun mock-up of an actual pharmaceutical website called "The Ablixa Website Experience" and commercials for both Ablixa and the supposed ADHD drug Intenin.
We Say: Soderbergh has said that this is his last theatrical film and, if it is, at least he exits on a high note. You never know who is screwing over whom in this unpredictable thriller that plays like a super high-class version of "Wild Things" with a prescription drug twist (blame the drugs for your deviant behavior!). All four lead actors are on board to mess with your head and you'll be guessing until the end credits which one walks away the least affected by all the scheming.

'The Last Stand'

Box Office: $12 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 59% Rotten
Storyline: Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as Sheriff Ray Owen, a former LAPD narcotics division officer who now lives an excitement-free existence in a sleepy border town. His semi-retirement is disrupted when he learns that a dangerous cartel boss (Eduardo Noriega) has escaped from a courthouse and is speeding at 200 mph towards the Mexican border, where his only obstacle is Ray and his inexperienced staff. Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman and Jaimie Alexander also star in this old-school action flick.
Extras!: Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain deleted and extended scenes, a making-of featurette, a scene breakdown of the cornfield chase, "The Dinkum Firearm and Historic Weaponry Museum Tour" and footage from one morning on the set taken by Knoxville and Alexander.
We Say: This is Schwarzenegger's first on-screen leading role since that whole California Governator gig. We're glad he's back even if he seems a little rusty acting-wise, but at least he has Knoxville and Guzman around for comic relief. This R-rated film directed by Kim Jee-woon is a welcome throwback to the action flicks Ahnuld used to make in his '80s and '90s heyday with tough-guy talk and lots of practical FX. Schwarzenegger didn't blow up the box office with this one like he did in the golden era of action films, but fans who weren't satisfied by his brief appearances in the "Expendables" movies will walk away smiling.

'Beautiful Creatures'

Rotten Tomatoes: 45% Rotten
Storyline: This teen supernatural romance based on the YA novel of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl centers on Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert), a "caster" (i.e. witch) who moves to the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina and quickly catches the eye of classmate Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich), a boy who has been dreaming about her since before they met. Even if Ethan is OK with the spookier side of Lena's dysfunctional supernatural family, he meets her at a critical time before her 16th birthday when she must undergo the Claiming and decide if she will live her life Light or Dark.
Extras!: Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain deleted scenes, "Book to Screen" and several behind-the-scenes and making-of featurettes.
We Say: If the plan for this wannabe franchise was to keep the "Twilight" momentum going by capturing its audience, this supposed saga-starter was an epic fail. Not only did it bomb at the box office but the silly soap opera story elicited embarrassing, hammy performances by seasoned actors like Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson. Between this and the failure of "The Host," the YA spell on moviegoers seems to have been broken ... at least until the next "Hunger Games" arrives in theaters.

'Stand Up Guys'

Box Office: $3.3 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 37% Rotten
Storyline: This crime comedy has three aging gangsters reuniting for one epic final night when Val (Al Pacino) is released from prison after serving 28 years. Val's old friend Doc (Christopher Walken) has orders to kill Val by 10 a.m. the next day, but the two instead bust their old pal Hirsch (Alan Arkin) out of his retirement home for a night of playing shoot-'em-up. Julianna Margulies co-stars as Hirsch's daughter.
Extras!: The DVD and Blu-ray have featurettes on the making of the stunt-driving sequences, the film itself and the music by Jon Bon Jovi as well as deleted scenes and commentary by director Fisher Stevens.
We Say: This movie works best when everyone else gets out of the way and cinema veterans Walken, Pacino and Arkin are allowed to just play off each other and have a little fun. The tone veers from silly action (rushing Pacino to the hospital to have his Viagra-induced erection drained) to syrupy sentiment (Walken visiting his estranged granddaughter every day at a diner without telling her who he is), which makes this golden-boys reunion wildly uneven.

'National Lampoon's Vacation' 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray

Box Office: $61 million
Rotten Tomatoes: 94% Fresh
Storyline: This 1983 road-trip comedy classic follows Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), his wife (Beverly D'Angelo) and their two children (Anthony Michael Hall and Dana Barron) from their home in Illinois to the theme park Wally World in California. Clark is hell-bent on showing his family a good time, even if it means strapping a dead relative to the roof and continually embarrassing himself with his madcap pursuit of the ultimate family vacation.
Extras!: All of the extras from the previous Blu-ray edition are here, including an audio commentary and a quick introduction by Chase, Randy Quaid and Marty Simmons. New to this Anniversary Edition is an 85-minute "Inside Story" retrospective documentary that includes recent interviews with the cast and crew.
We Say: Since this seminal laugh fest spawned several sequels and a remake currently in the works, it has earned its well-deserved place as one of the funniest comedies of all time. Although this new edition has the exact same picture and sound quality as the previous Blu-ray release, fans will want to double dip for the exhaustive documentary on this version that the original must have left tied to the back of the station wagon.

If there's one thing you can count on from "The Hangover Part III," it's that at some point in the film, Zach Galifianakis (and probably Ken Jeong, too) is gonna let it all hang out.

Now, while we respect such a display of uninhibited revelry, it doesn't mean that anybody — and we mean anybody — necessarily wanted to see such a thing. Let's face it (or, rather, let's not) — there are just some people who need to keep their junk in the trunk.

Speaking of which, here are nine nude scenes that made us wanna cover our eyes.

9. Philip Seymour Hoffman, 'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead' (2007)

The opening shot of director Sidney Lumet's last film shows Philip Seymour Hoffman energetically humping Marisa Tomei. Say what you will about the big guy, but he seems a more than capable lover ... not that we needed any visual proof of that. Ever.

8. Halle Berry, 'Monster's Ball' (2001)

I know what you’re thinking: how could Halle Berry, easily one of the most beautiful women in the world, earn a place on a list of the worst movie nude scenes? Well, if you've ever seen "Monster's Ball," you'll understand why. This isn't like "Swordfish" where Berry was lounging topless by the pool; the sex scene between her and Billy Bob Thornton is raw, nasty, and unsettling. "Make me feel good," she cries in ecstasy. No, thanks.

7. Bruce Willis, 'Color of Night' (1994)

Anybody remember this Razzie Award-winning gem starring Bruce Willis as a colorblind psychiatrist stalked by a mysterious killer? No? Surely you must remember all those sex scenes between Willis and Jane March, scenes that were so hot they had to be trimmed for theatrical release. No again? Not even the one where they go for an energetic romp in a swimming pool? Still not ringing a bell? Maybe you should just watch "Basic Instinct" instead.

6. Kathy Bates, 'About Schmidt' (2002)

Gotta love Kathy Bates for her chutzpah — not too many actresses her age would have the guts to get naked in a hot tub with Jack Nicholson. Her bare-all expose provides "About Schmidt" with its most hilarious — and shocking — moment. Bates was rewarded with an Oscar nomination for her performance – further proof that all you need to do to gain favor with the Academy is show a little T&A … or in Bates' case, a lot.

5. Jack Nicholson, 'Something's Gotta Give' (2003)

Speaking of Jack, did anybody really want to see his bare butt in the late-life romantic comedy "Something's Gotta Give"? Well, maybe some of us kinda did, but that's beside the point. Throughout the film, we're treated to not one, not two, but three shots of Nicholson's rear end ... and only one brief flash of Diane Keaton’s naked body. Now how is that fair? Here's hoping the sequel will rectumfy that (har!).

4. Geoffrey Rush, 'Quills' (2000)

Any actor portraying the Marquis de Sade, the notorious, sex-obsessed author of such hardcore classics as "Justine" and "The 120 Days of Sodom," is inevitably going to show a little skin ... so don't be too surprised when Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush parades around in his birthday suit on more than one occasion. But hey, "Quills" also features a nude, nubile Kate Winslet, so it's got a little something in it for everybody.

3. Harvey Keitel, 'The Piano' (1993)

For a while there in the '90s, Harvey Keitel couldn’t help dropping trough in movie after movie. "Holy Smoke" (1999), "Bad Lieutenant" (1992), "The Piano" (1993) … it almost seemed written into his contract for at least one scene to feature full frontal nudity. Who could forget Holly Hunter’s shock at finding Keitel's shlong all up in her face? Those piano keys weren't the only piece of ivory on display.

2. Jaye Davidson, 'The Crying Game' (1992)

Put yourself in Stephen Rea's shoes: You're an ex-IRA terrorist, you've started going out with the hairdresser/nightclub singer girlfriend of some guy you got killed, you take her home for a night of getting-it-on ... only to find a little extra equipment under her skirt. Didn't see that one coming, did you? Neither did moviegoers, who flocked to see the secret cross-dresser Jaye Davidson had tucked away. Next time, Stephen, check for the Adam's apple.

1. Terry Bradshaw, 'Failure to Launch' (2006)

When Fox Sports commentator Terry Bradshaw makes that rare acting turn, it’s gotta have something special ... something you weren't expecting. And certainly no one was expecting the former quarterback to leave nothing to the imagination as Matthew McConaughey's father in "Failure to Launch." "This is my naked room," Bradshaw explains to his bewildered son upon finding his dad in nothing but his Super Bowl ring. One thing's for sure: You'll never watch Monday Night Football the same way again.

Generally speaking, bad guys are bad guys because they want to do bad things and get away with them, so if you see one get caught in the middle of a movie it usually means they've got an ace up their sleeve. Lately we've been seeing this trend of the bad guy getting caught on purpose (capture, interrogation, threat, destruction, escape) in big tentpole blockbusters, and either every copy of Final Draft has a glitch that automatically pastes that into a script … or folks are getting lazy.

Seeing as how it's used once again in "Star Trek Into Darkness," let's cite five recent examples of this cliché in the hopes that we can declare a moratorium on it ... at least until it counts as nostalgia.

Culprit #1: 'The Dark Knight' (2008)

Mastermind: The Joker (Heath Ledger)
The Plan: Get caught while attempting to kill District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), locked in the Gotham City Major Crimes Unit and interrogated by Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) and Batman (Christian Bale); threaten them with Dent and Rachel Dawes' (Maggie Gyllenhaal) death by explosion; take a hostage and use him to make a phone call so phone activates a bomb sewn into one of your gang members; abscond with the police informant/mob accountant Lau (Chin Han).
Does It Work?: Why yes, like clockwork. It's not until later that the Joker's plans begin to unravel thanks to Batman's tapping every cell phone in Gotham (cheating!), but that's not the point. What makes the Joker such an effective adversary is his seeming death wish, the fact that he doesn't really give a hoot whether he lives or dies. That's why Batman has nothing to threaten him with during the interrogation; he's simply "an agent of chaos," and one slippery little bugger.

Culprit #2: 'Law Abiding Citizen' (2009)

Mastermind: Clyde Alexander Shelton (Gerard Butler)
The Plan: Gruesomely murder the man who killed your wife and daughter; videotape it; call the police on yourself; get jailed for contempt of court; kill your cellmate so you'll be put in solitary; use secret passageways leading from solitary to the auto garage you own next to the prison; go on massive killing spree; return to cell; repeat.
Does It Work?: Yeah, for a while, until Rice (the lawyer Shelton's tormenting, played by Jamie Foxx) learns about Shelton's little tunnel operation and uses the bomb Shelton planted at City Hall to blow up Shelton. "Law Abiding Citizen" wasn't the biggest hit in the world, but could've basically been called "Bad Guy Caught On Purpose: The Movie."

Culprit #3: 'Marvel's The Avengers' (2012)

Mastermind: Loki (Tom Hiddleston)
The Plan: Create a huge disturbance in Germany to draw in The Avengers;  get taken aboard a Quinjet to their big ol' Helicarrier in the sky; get interrogated by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Natasha Romanof (Scarlett Johansson) while locked inside a glass cell; have Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and your other possessed agents attack the Helicarrier; trigger a Hulk-out in Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo); entrap Thor (Chris Hemsworth)/eject him from the ship; and escape.
Does It Work?: Yes and no, but it's definitely a "fool me twice shame on me" situation. Here the Villain Caught On Purpose (VCOP) device gets incorporated into another post-"The Silence of the Lambs" thing of having the nasty psychopath behind a big pane of glass. It's a cool image because it decreases the perceived safety net, and here has the double purpose of being ejected out of the ship and nearly killing poor Thor. It doesn't kill Thor, though, nor anyone else (except Agent Coulson, *PFFT* whatever), and the Helicarrier is damaged but still flying by the end. And, ultimately, instead of being the event that cripples The Avengers, it actually rallies them together. D'OH!

Culprit #4: 'Skyfall' (2012)

Mastermind: Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem)
The Plan: Lead James Bond (Daniel Craig) to abandoned island lair (natch); make a pass at him; kill a prostitute; get captured by helicopters, taken back to MI6 in London and interrogated by M (Judi Dench) while locked inside a glass cell; show everyone your gross-ass teeth; have your confiscated laptop trigger your escape during decryption; disguise yourself as a police officer; throw a train at Bond; and sashay into a court of inquiry to shoot M.
Does It Work?: Not really. This time the VCOP seems truly devious but in actuality fails at Silva scoring his primary target of M, and her later death seems more accidental than anything else as it occurs after Silva already be dead. That's, like, a lot of planning for very little reward. Despite all the razmataz, it seems like the only thing Silva really accomplishes in this movie is getting to blow up a few buildings and feel up James Bond.

Culprit #5: 'Star Trek Into Darkness' (2013)

Mastermind: John Harrison, aka Khan Noonien Singh (Benedict Cumberbatch)
The Plan: Kill a ton of Starfleet commanders in a brutal helicopter hit straight out of "The Godfather Part III"; lead Kirk (Chris Pine) to your hideout on Klingon planet Kronos; kill at least three dozen Klingons in front of Kirk and Spock (Zachary Quinto) before giving yourself up freely; get interrogated by them while locked inside a glass cell aboard the Enterprise; lead them to uncover the bodies of your crew in the torpedoes and massive secret warship Vengeance; allow Vengeance to nearly destroy Enterprise until Scotty (who you didn't know existed) sabotages their engines, giving Kirk the opportunity to set you loose to help him take out the spartan Vengeance crew because he's dumb enough to think letting you run amok on a warship is a good idea. Oh, if there's time, blow up Enterprise and crash ship into Starfleet headquarters.
Does It Work?: Jesus, so many questions. Why is Khan's crew in the torpedoes? How would Khan know the Vengeance wouldn't kill everybody including his sorry ass? Why would anyone in their right mind not know that Khan was dangerous after killing half the Starfleet high command and a squad of Klingons single-handedly? Screw logic, all these things happen because J.J. Abrams, the Uri Geller of filmmaking, wants them to happen, and he hopes you won't think about them for even one second.

We have a feeling this whole thing about bad guys giving themselves up on purpose started with John Doe (Kevin Spacey) walking casually into the police station caked in blood in the 1995 thriller "Se7en," only to later spring the whole "head in the box" trap on Brad Pitt. Hopefully this lamebrained "Trek" is the last straw for VCOP, clear-cell interrogations and bad guys in torpedoes.

WARNING: CRAZY SPOILERS HEREIN.

It's become a bit of a tradition in Hollywood for the creators of pop culture-friendly franchises to hide a few Easter eggs in the film for hardcore fans to find and get giggly over. "Iron Man 3" did it just this month while Marvel's other giant blockbuster, "The Avengers," perfected the art last year.

But while those movies were at least sometimes subtle about their references and in-jokes, "Star Trek Into Darkness" has taken a somewhat different approach: smacking you right in the face with them at every single opportunity.

Of course, that's bound to happen when your whole film is taken part and parcel from the most beloved "Star Trek" installment of all time, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." But since not everyone going to see "Star Trek Into Darkness" has a Ph.D. in Trekkery ("Wrath of Khan" did come out over 30 years ago, after all), we thought we'd go ahead and break things down for the rest of you.

So check out our handy guide to 8 Things You May Have Missed the First Time Around. And who knows? Even if you're a hardcore "Star Trek" fan, there might be something in here you somehow missed as well. Enjoy!

1. The Needs of the Many

Paramount

During the high-octane opening sequence of the film, Spock (Zachary Quinto) finds himself seemingly abandoned to certain death inside an active volcano. But does he want to be saved? No he does not, in part because trying to rescue him would endanger to0 many other people. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one," he explains calmly — using the same phrase that Leonard Nimoy's original Spock used during his infamous death scene at the end of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

2. KHAAAAAAAAAN!

So just how legendary is Spock's death scene in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"? So legendary that they reused the entire sequence in "Star Trek Into Darkness," only with the roles of Spock and Kirk reversed! Yeah, that whole thing where Kirk went into the radiation chamber to save the ship and then died heroically while his best friend helplessly groped at the glass between them? All of it was taken right from "The Wrath of Khan." As was the epic scream "KHAAAAAAAAN!!!," which was originally delivered by William Shatner's Captain Kirk in arguably the most famous moment in "Star Trek" history. Behold the wonder:

3. The Mudd Incident

When Captain Kirk (Chris Pine, naturally) heads down to the Klingon homeworld to capture Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch), he disguises the expedition by using a non-Federation shuttle they confiscated during "the Mudd incident." That's actually a double Easter egg: Harry Mudd was a fan favorite recurring villain during the original "Star Trek" TV series, but publishing company IDW also recently put out a special "Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness" tie-in comic book setting up ... well, that one scene. Cool either way.

4. Nurse Chapel

Paramount

During Kirk's initial flirtation with new hottie Carol Marcus (Alice Eve), she mentions that he has a reputation. How bad is it? So bad that her good friend, Christine Chapel, transferred off planet to get away from him and become a nurse. Which is a reference to original "Star Trek" crew member Nurse Chapel, who was played by "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry's wife, Majel Barrett. There was also a brief reference to Nurse Chapel in the 2009 "Star Trek" film, so maybe at some point she'll actually, you know, appear on screen or something.

5. Dr. Carol Marcus

Speaking of science officer Carol Marcus and her flirtation with Kirk, hopefully you liked her, because chances are you're going to see a lot more of her ... and not just because Eve has already signed on to appear in "Star Trek 3." Dr. Carol Marcus, you see, was a major character in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," where it was revealed that she secretly had a son with Kirk when they were both younger, i.e. the age they are in the reboot. So that line she delivers at the end of the movie where she says to Kirk that "It's good to have a family?" Yeah, those googly bedroom eyes were totally foreshadowing.

6. The Trouble With Tribbles

If you were wondering about that undead ball of fur that Karl Urban's Dr. McCoy performs medical experiments on in his attempts to revive Kirk, then you clearly aren't a fan of the '60s TV show ... because "The Trouble with Tribbles," where that cute monster came from, is arguably the most popular episode of the entire series. In the show, the Tribbles seem harmless — and are harmless, except for the fact that they multiply at such an ungodly rate that they endanger every other species around by eating them out of house and home like a plague of Furbies. Maybe McCoy should have left that one dead.

7. Kobayashi Maru

Referenced both in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and in the 2009 "Star Trek" reboot, the Kobayashi Maru is a simulation that cadets at Starfleet Academy have to attempt as part of their training. One problem: it's a no-win situation, with Kirk only beating it thanks to some ingenious cheating. So what does it have to do with "Star Trek: Into Darkness"? Well, the Kobayashi Maru scenario involves being stranded on the edge of Klingon space due to a warp core malfunction — which is exactly what happens to the actual Enterprise in "Into Darkness." Well played.

8. The Undiscovered Country

Finally, we have to also give props to J.J. Abrams and company for branching out a little with their references beyond just "The Wrath of Khan," which they did with the entire non-Khan half of the plot. You know that whole thing where Starfleet Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller) tries to stage an incident in order to create a war with the Klingon Empire, going so far as to attack and kill Starfleet officers as part of his plan? Yeah, that's the plot of "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," which many critics consider the second-best of the original "Star Trek" movies — right behind "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." Hey, if you're going to steal, steal from the best.

The lovely and talented Lake Bell has been a mainstay of film and television for over a decade, stealing scenes in films like "No Strings Attached" and on television series such as "Childrens Hospital" and "How to Make it in America." This week she's an average girl out for a weekend of fun who finds herself in a battle for survival in the indie thriller "Black Rock."

We had an exclusive 1-on-1 with Bell to discuss shooting a film without bathrooms, girl talk during life or death situations, her directorial debut "In a World ... " and her continuing quest to one day play Wonder Woman.

Was the shoot for "Black Rock" as isolated as it looks? Were you guys confined to this island location?
We shot in Milbridge, Maine, which is an incredibly tiny town. Not only is it really tiny but we were sequestered to the girl's cabin and then the boys were in the boy's cabin. We lived in really tight quarters, there were no trailers. There were no bathrooms, for that matter. There were not sets, we were just using the woods as backdrop for everything we did, and the little coastal beaches. It was the antithesis of any project I've ever done. It was very bare-bones, everybody had to be really game. It was just suit up, shut up and have a good time.

Did that confinement effect the psychology of the performances at all?
Naturally, yes. We shot chronologically, which is very rare, you never get to do that. That was a huge benefit for us because we could emotionally psyche ourselves up for these challenging milestones in the movie.

It's such a major tonal shift, hard to imagine doing a scene from the relatively placid first 30-minutes and then later that day shooting something intense from the last act.
Exactly.

There have been a lot of rape-revenge films like this dating back to the '70s with movies like "I Spit on Your Grave" or "Mother's Day." What did director/star Katie Aselton and screenwriter Mark Duplass do to put a new spin on an old tune?
You take Mark and Katie, who do a very specific thing. They're very relevant and they're very current, the thing that they do which is utterly theirs, and a lot of people bite off what they try to do. Taking the energy and tone of their kinds of movies and injecting the thriller genre to them makes it hugely unique from any film of this ilk. It's sort of a trick on the audience, because it starts from a Duplass type of place and energy, then the spirit of the movie takes a big shift, obviously. When the stakes go from emotional stakes between girls figuring out relationship issues to the very literal stakes of who wants to live more. [Laughs]

You and Katie have this exchange when you're being hunted which I called the "girl talk" moment where you're apologizing for sleeping with her boyfriend and all that. If you, Lake Bell, were in that same situation would you maybe save those conversations for later?
Look, what's eerily realistic about that scene … and we're not used to seeing it in films because usually once the action starts we want to continue with the action. What ruptures that is this hiatus in the movie's action moment to snuff out an emotional beat in the story. It is very Katie and Mark of them to do that. In real life if there's a hostage situation or your house is broken into there are moments where it's still two people who have the relationships they have. There's sometimes levity, there's sometimes comedy. There's sometimes moments of pause. Sometimes people have to pee! They never show just moments of other life happening while the stakes are still f**kin' high. I think it’s a very bold choice to have that scene. It makes some people potentially uncomfortable because you're thinking, "Well the movie should be a train forward now!" What makes it difficult to watch is its building tension from your concern for their well-being.

More than any of the three girls, your character Lou goes from being very impish and whimsical to this determined warrior. You've made this clear in the past, but just want to reiterate that should "Justice League" ever get off its ass at Warner Bros. you'd be a fantastic Wonder Woman.

Not that secret! You made that proclamation a few years ago.
I said it so randomly at Comic-Con then it was definitely a thing for a second. It's so funny because you say those things in passing, stupidly … 'cause I was there for comedy, I wasn't there for anything else, but it was at Comic-Con so people were like, "Oh, wait a second, Lake Bell's making a play for something." But yeah, it's totally a fantasy to be a superhero and to kick some f**kin' ass.

What is it specifically about Diana and her star-spangled underwear that appeals to you?
I mean, I think growing up I thought she was the most remarkable person ever, so it's more nostalgia than anything else. To play a superhero in your core you have to have a little bit of a sense of humor because you have to suspend disbelief and lean into something that's an icon. It was initially a drawing to embody a concept, and you have to have some playful spark in you.

Jon Hamm is obviously an amazing actor, and he'd said he wouldn't do a lead role in a movie unless the right thing came along. You're in "Million Dollar Arm" with him — what makes that "the right thing" for him and for you?
Jon is a friend of mine so I'm so jazzed to be in another situation where I'm making a movie with pals. At the end of the day making a movie should be fun! It is a cool job to have, and we shouldn't take it too seriously, especially if you're making a movie that's supposed to have that levity and camaraderie, and "Million Dollar Arm" is a feel-good movie. It's based on a true story, and I think it's a super-cool move for Jon to take on this role. The character is going through his own emotional journey that happened in real life. He starts off as someone who doesn't value certain things in life and then learns to take hints and cues from people who are unlikely candidates for wisdom.

Roadside Attractions

Your feature directorial debut "In a World ..." got great notices and the Waldo Salt Award at Sundance. The people who've seen it think it could really take off if it's handled right distribution-wise. Do you have a good plan of attack to get that out there?
First of all, thank you. I'm sitting here doing these interviews talking about "In a World ..." and can only be filled with pride and respect for the people that helped me make it. It's a little movie I feel people are really enjoying. That gives me that overwhelming feeling of being happy to be here. Winning an award or selling the movie were massive bonuses, but just being at Sundance alone was the prize.

Now you have to get it out there, get some butts in the seats.
Amen, brother! Let's do this! It's coming out August 9 and we do have a really cool plan of attack, but I hope that it will roll out the way it's supposed to roll out. Certainly all my friends who were in it who were kind enough to lend their talents to be in the movie are excited to promote it.

Would you pull a Zach Braff and utilize Kickstarter to get your next directorial project off the ground?
Kickstarter was actually responsible for post-production on my little short film that I did when I was first starting out. I self-financed the whole thing then just needed help with post-production because I literally tapped out my pocketbook, but it was worth every penny because it has become my loving calling card for me as a director and got me to Sundance in the first place.

Single young women of New York City, get ready for your mom to worry about what your day-to-day life is like! (And just when we'd explained to her that it's not like "Girls," too.) Everyone else, brace yourselves for your new favorite indie charmer: "Frances Ha."

Greta Gerwig plays the titular Frances, a 27-year-old modern dancer prone to scabby knees, bouts of wild movement in front of fountains and white lies about her employment status — but it's cool, she readily admits, as she's "not a real person yet."

The film, directed by Noah Baumbach and co-written by Baumbach and Gerwig, will finally hit limited release on May 17 after running the festival circuit in New York, Toronto and Telluride last fall. The agonizing six-month gap between festival screenings and the official release date, however, was better than letting the finished film sit on the shelf until spring, Gerwig told NextMovie.

"Once your baby's ready, you've gotta get it out," she said of the film, though she admits to "kind of weeping on the other side of the phone, saying, 'Well, I can't wait another six months for this to come out, why can't we just release it right now!'"

NextMovie caught up with Gerwig in New York ahead of the black-and-white film's release, talking about "Frances Ha," classic films and, perhaps most importantly, how women can pee in the great outdoors without incident.

I liked it even better the second time I saw it.
I feel that way, too! Not just because it's my movie and I want people to see it dozens of times, I actually do think it's a movie that stands a second look. I feel like you can watch it again and that it's worth watching it again.

I've heard a lot about the kind of guerilla way you made this movie — small, digital cameras, a tiny crew, all that.
I mean, in some ways. Guerilla makes it sound cooler than it was. It was not that cool. It was very ... there was chaotic elements in it, like we didn't have control of the street, or we didn't have control of the subway car, but we did tons and tons of takes and it was super-structured with these elements of chaos kind of thrown in. It felt like some combination of Kubrick and something in the middle. It was very labor intensive. It wasn't like, "Man, let's go get this shot right now!" It wasn't like that, but we did have scenes where we couldn't control anything around us.

What would you be doing if you weren't acting?
God, I don't know. I know I would be in film or theater, but I kind of actually prepared for that eventuality when I was in college. I was writing and I was acting, but I also was a stage manager and I was working in technical theater and I was kind of interested in dramaturgy. I really, really knew that I wanted to live in the world of film and theater; I just didn't know where it was gonna land. I could be a ticket-taker at BAM. I just really love being around it.

A lot of people seem to feel like acting isn't hard work, but it really is a job.
It's a job, but it really is the best. For me, it's the best job. I love movie sets, I love theaters, that's where I want to be. These are just the people I like being around. I feel like it's work and it can be boring and it can be hard, but there's almost literally nowhere else I'd rather be, so that makes up for a lot of it. Even when it's not good! Even when you're like, "This movie might not work."

"It exists."
Even if you're not, like, not totally behind it, I still love it. I mean, I shouldn't talk about this, because it's probably true and I don't know what I'm talking about, but when everybody's like, "Oh, network television is really hard and it's a brutal schedule," which I'm sure, but it's also like, "You get to be on a set every day?" That sounds awesome. They're like yeah, try that for 50 weeks out of the year.

Would you do TV? You co-wrote and starred in this, and you're also working on an animated movie, among other things, but I haven't heard anything about TV, apart from the unfinished "The Corrections" pilot that HBO passed on.
I would totally do TV, I like TV. I think, I don't think really in terms of television, I don't have a ... I sort of think my way into mediums and try and get a sense of what they are and what they want and what they should be, and I don't totally feel like ... as a viewer, I love television, but I don't feel like I have that grasp on it as an actor or a writer. So it would be a totally new beast for me. I don't even know if I'd be any good at it, but I wouldn't be opposed to it in any way.

I could do, like "Twin Peaks" or something. I love "Twin Peaks." And the new Jane Campion thing, "Top of the Lake," is really great. There's lots of great shows, there's no shortage of great shows, there's just the feeling of I don't totally get the form. I don't know how you get ideas for it, is what I mean.

I don't know if I could stick with something for that long.
Yeah, it makes me anxious. I like the frame of a movie. You've got this much time, and you've got to tell this story in this amount of time. It's hard, but it's also comforting.

What's on your DVR?
You know, right now, I'm not DVRing that much because I've been on an almost one-movie-a-day bender recently. You can do it, you can't watch a three-hour movie a day, but if you don't spend time on the Internet, and you don't watch television, you can watch a movie a day. So I've been watching a lot of movies lately.

Are you working through some kind of list?
I'm working through classics that I missed, actually. There's the Sight and Sound poll every year, and every year there's films on it that I haven't seen, and every year, I'm like, "I should watch those movies," and I don't. So I finally sat down and made my Netflix queue proper. I dominated the Netflix queue. I get the actual physical DVDs. I think you can get complacent and go oh, I'll just figure out what's streaming on Netflix so you don't actually choose the DVDs. So I did that, and that's been really what I've been working my way through. Movies I just missed for whatever reason. Like I'd seen one movie that a director had done, but I hadn't seen some others.

What's a movie that you just saw that you felt guilty about missing?
They're all so embarrassing that I can't ... like I had never seen "Days of Heaven" until like two weeks ago. It's so good. It's so good! How I'm feeling right now is that what's amazing about committing to watching all the movies that you'd never seen, much like reading all the books that you've never read, which I'm always kind of engaged with trying to do, is that the great movies are great for a reason: they're so entertaining and they're so interesting and they're so alive.

I remember when I heard David Bowie for the first time, and I heard David Bowie for the first time late, like I was in high school, late high school. And I remember feeling as I was listening to it, like, "Oh my god, he's made so many albums, and I haven't heard any of them, and I get to listen to them, experience all this music!" I never even knew I was missing it. There was just this treasure trove that I'd been missing. I feel the same way about film, like there's so many great films that I haven't seen. I've always been a pretty avid filmgoer, but I've gotten very methodical about it in the last year or so, because, I don't know, because I've gone crazy. It's the last year of my twenties, and I'm like, I've gotta get serious about something!

In the movie, you lean over a subway track and pee. Do you have any special techniques for outdoor peeing?
I hiked a portion of the Appalachian trail, and I have a lot of outdoor bathroom experience because of that, and I feel like it really is about finding something to hold onto and suspend yourself over, so that you're not actually standing in it while it's happening. So it's like, you're moving your whole behind away from you, and you're putting it over there. You don't want to be like, sitting in it while it's seeping everywhere. It's disgusting.

No, "Ahoy, sexy" was a made-up thing. Ahoy was a real thing, but I added the sexy.

Apart from "Ahoy, sexy," what's the worst pick-up line you've ever heard?
God, I don't even know. Oh, this isn't really a pick-up line, but it's the worst thing a boy has ever said to me, or a man has ever said to me. Someone said "You're not the smartest girl I've ever met, or the prettiest girl I've ever seen, but you have a pretty good proportion of each." I was like "... Thank you? Or am I offended?"

"Star Trek Into Darkness" hits theaters around the nation today and that got us thinking: What's going to happen in "Star Trek 3"?

Hey, we're not called CurrentMovie.com.

And, surprisingly enough, there's actually quite a bit of information floating around out there about the presumed third installment in the hit sci-fi franchise relaunch. With that in mind, we've compiled all the rumors, revealing interviews and MAJOR SPOILERS into one handy guide.

So check it out. Because if there's one thing "Star Trek" has taught us, it's that tomorrow is going to be even better than today.

The Whole Crew Will Be Back

As the chatter surrounding whether or not Robert Downey, Jr. will be back for "Iron Man 4" has shown us, you just can't take anything for granted in the world of movies. If they can potentially replace the most popular and successful box office star of the past five years, they can certainly replace the cast of "Star Trek." Luckily, however, they're not going to, as all the major crew members of the Enterprise are signed on for a third film. And that even includes new addition Alice Eve, who joined the team in "Star Trek Into Darkness." Welcome aboard!

'Star Trek 3' Will Arrive in 2016

Or at least, that's the plan. 2016, you see, happens to the the 50th anniversary of the television debut of "Star Trek" back in 1966. And as screenwriter Robert Orci told Trek Movie, the folks at Paramount "are firm about having a movie out by the 50th anniversary and we are all trying to see if we can all make it work together." Of course, "Star Trek Into Darkness" was supposed to come out last summer, so these things sometimes just take as long as they take. But at the moment, the Enterprise is scheduled to take flight once again in 2016.

J.J. Abrams Will Be Involved

In case you've been living in a cave or inside a Tauntaun's stomach for the last year, "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" director J.J. Abrams recently signed on to direct "Star Wars: Episode VII," which is only the biggest movie event of your lifetime. So the dude is going to be busy. And that has a lot of "Star Trek" fans understandably concerned. But Abrams told the Belfast Telegraph in no uncertain terms that he will still be working on "Star Trek 3" one way or another. "No matter what if there is a third film Bad Robot and I will be producing the film, so we'll definitely be involved in it," he said. Whew.

There Will Be Klingons

The numbe- one menace in just about every version of "Star Trek" is, of course, the warlike Klingon Empire. And as fans who have seen "Star Trek Into Darkness" already know, the Klingons are most definitely lurking out there, ready to pounce — something they are probably going to do in "Star Trek 3." Discussing possibilities for "Star Trek 3" with HeyUGuys!, screenwriter Damon Lindelof said "You can never see enough Klingons, and I think in ["Star Trek Into Darkness"] we've given the audience a little taste, but there's also a promise that there’s a larger conflict on the horizon, and that would be fun to see." He also teased the possibility of seeing Q or even the Borg in future films, but for now, Klingons are apparently where it's at.

Khan May Return

Hey, we warned you there are spoilers. Asked about the possibility of Benedict Cumberbatch's Khan becoming a returning villain, Lindelof told Screen Rant that "I think that we would be incredibly stupid to not use him again." Now, that may not come until "Star Trek 4" or something, but considering how awesome Cumberbatch is in "Star Trek Into Darkness," we sure hope they use him again sooner rather than later.

There Will Be More Space Stuff

If there's any complaint we have about the first two "Star Trek" films it's that they, you know, don't actually have anything to do with a trek to the stars. Almost all the action takes place on or near Earth, with both films revolving around plots to wreck our big beautiful planet. At the end of "Star Trek Into Darkness," though, the Enterprise finally takes off on its five-year mission to seek out new life and new civilizations and boldly go where no one has gone before — which is where the classic "Star Trek" story began. So expect far more deep-space explorer-type stuff and far fewer sequences of people fighting on top of cars.

It's somewhat only appropriate that there are a lot — a lot — of zombie movies, as there are usually a lot of zombies (they tend to travel in hordes, ya know). For better and worse, the overcrowded (or is it overrun?) genre probably has at least ten times as many absurd installments as it does classics like "Night of the Living Dead" and "Dawn of the Dead."

And why not, really? Zombie movies are fun and cheap to make and they make themselves right at home in any scenario, whether it be in the 'hood or on a plane or in Nazi Germany or the halls of a high school.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" blasts into theaters (and, uh, darkness) this week and for most fans, it's a pretty damn exciting moment — all their favorite sci-fi heroes, finally back on the big screen, ready to save the future. Yee-hah.

But for some people, this whole "Star Trek" thing is still a bit of a mystery. What Is 'Star Trek'?

Created by Gene Roddenberry for television in 1966, "Star Trek" was pitched as a western that takes place in outer space. The idea was that the show would follow a group of explorers that was searching the stars for new worlds, alien races and pretty much whatever other craziness they could find. The crew of the starship Enterprise was basically a futuristic version of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Talk about your high concepts!

Who Are the Characters?

The Enterprise is helmed by Captain James T. Kirk (played by William Shatner in the original series), with his second-in-command being the half-human, half-Vulcan science officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy). They are joined by Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley), engineer Scotty (James Doohan), communications officer Lieutenant Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), helmsman Hikaru Sulu (Facebook icon George Takei) and ensign Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) ... plus a bunch of random guest star fodder known for wearing red shirts and dying at an alarming rate.

What Happened In The Original 'Star Trek'?

The classic "Star Trek" TV show ran for three seasons before being cancelled by NBC. It immediately went into syndication and gained a worldwide cult following, the members of which became known as Trekkies (or Trekkers, or any variation thereof). The show's retroactive popularity spawned a feature film in 1979; it proved so popular that nine sequels followed, with the final (-ish) entry, "Star Trek: Nemesis," being released in 2002. The franchise also spun off several hit TV shows, including "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987-1994), "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993-1999), "Star Trek: Voyager" (1995-2001) and "Star Trek: Enterprise" (2001-2005).

Why Was 'Star Trek' Rebooted?

With the original cast aging (and several have sadly passed away at this point), the cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" took over the film series with the seventh installment, 1994's "Star Trek: Generations." Diminishing box office returns ("Star Trek: Nemesis" only managed to bring in $68 million worldwide) along with rising costs for stars like Patrick Stewart, who had become an A-lister thanks to his role in "X-Men," eventually forced parent company Paramount to shut things down. And with no new "Star Trek" shows in production, another generational swap was out of the cards. Something more drastic had to be done.

What Happened In the New 'Star Trek'?

Faced with over 40 years of mythology and continuity — a pretty big entry bar for potential new fans — new director J.J. Abrams decided to do that drastic something by chucking most of it out the window. In the 2009 series reboot "Star Trek," time travelers (including Leonard Nimoy's Spock) accidentally created an alternate universe — as a result, the movie featured younger versions of all the classic characters from before anything from the original series had ever happened, meaning it was basically a totally fresh start. At the end of the film, Earth was saved (though Vulcan was destroyed) and a rebellious young Kirk (now played by Chris Pine) proved himself worthy of command as a Starfleet captain.

Are All the Stars Back For 'Star Trek Into Darkness'?

Yep. And that means fans will get a chance to see how Kirk's developing friendship with the very prickly younger Spock (Zachary Qunito) evolves, not to mention Spock's own romantic relationship with the highly competent and extremely ambitious Uhura (Zoe Saldana). Also returning are Simon Pegg as a more comedic version of Scotty, Karl Urban as the cynical Dr. McCoy, John Cho as the heroic Sulu and Anton Yelchin as the apparently superfluous Chekov (seriously, give him something to do this time, please). Even Nimoy is back as the elder Spock, despite his own claims to be retired; hey, some things you just can't retire from.

Who Is Khan?

In the original series, Khan Noonien Singh (played by the legendary Ricardo Montalban) was a genetically engineered tyrant from the 20th century who was revived in the 23rd century and attempted to impose his vision of a better tomorrow on ... tomorrow. He famously came back for the aptly titled "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," considered by most Trekkies to be the best "Star Trek" movie ever. In "Star Trek Into Darkness," a new version of Khan is played by Benedict Cumberbatch; just what his beef is with Starfleet is too big a spoiler to reveal, but let's just say that this version of the character is just as big a jerk as the original.

Why Is 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Set On Earth?

So, considering "Star Trek" is, you know, supposed to be a trek into the stars, it may seem odd that pretty much all the trailers and posters and whatnot heavily revolve around action that takes place on or directly above Earth. That's because this new, vengeful Khan is trying to strike back at the benevolent Federation of Planets, which is headquartered on Earth. Specifically, he's really got it in for Starfleet, which is housed in San Francisco, hence all the shots of the Golden Gate Bridge and stuff in the previews. Don't worry, though; the first "Star Trek" reboot also revolved around a plot to mess up Earth and it ended up featuring plenty of deep space action, so your sci-fi fix is assured.

Where Does 'Star Wars' Fit Into All This?

For the past 35 years, "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" fans have had a not-so-friendly argument over which series is better. Some fans even thought that J.J. Abrams ruined "Star Trek" four years ago by making it too much like "Star Wars." Now, though, the two franchises are sharing Abrams, as the director has agreed to helm the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII." So with Abrams bringing the two biggest science fiction fanbases of all time together at last, does that mean there will be peace at Comic-Con? We'd have to really be idiots to believe that.

Alice Eve used to just be out of your league, but now she's out of your galaxy, man.

Yes, the striking blonde whose sudden bra-and-underwear appearance in the "Star Trek Into Darkness" trailer may have given you whiplash from running the YouTube scrollbar back so quickly (to find the hidden link to the posters, of course) has noted babe qualities, having starred in 2010's "She's Out of My League" with Jay Baruchel and played movie star Vince's future wife on HBO's "Entourage." However, that glimpse of skin you catch in the trailer is about all you get — Eve's character, Dr. Carol Marcus, is a science officer on board the Enterprise, and, refreshingly, does not serve as anyone's love interest.

We caught up with Eve before this week's release of the film to talk Trekkies, geekery and bromances.

Are you a Trekkie?
I am now.

Did you have to study "Star Trek" lore before filming the movie?
I totally watched the first season of the show, and I watched the movies. I used to watch it on TV with my grandfather. I was aware of it, but now I'm way more of a Trekkie than I was then.

Are you a total nerd for it now?
No, I'm not that good. I get like when they do the tests in the interviews and they come with, like, quizzes, I get like 6 out of 10?

That's better than I could do.
Yeah, and I'm getting better. If you spend more time, then you get quite good.

I found it really refreshing that you didn't play anyone's love interest.
I really like how Carol was a really independent figure, you know. She has her own determination and her own trajectory, and she's going to follow it. I really liked how she was an independent soul working in that universe with everyone else.

There's such a strong marginalization of women in sci-fi usually.
Is that the tradition? Yeah, I agree, it doesn't feel that J.J.'s female characters are

marginalized. He has a really strong wife, a very intelligent woman, and I think that he understands strong women.

And it really seems like J.J. is firing on all cylinders all the time.
He really does, his mind moves at warp speed, but he can handle it. If he can continue to handle it and make such good movies, then that's great for us, I think.

There's some slap action in this movie. Any tips on taking or giving a slap?
I get a slap, did I? Do you mean taking a slap or receiving one? I slap my dad in the film. I've never been slapped, but I know how to do it on screen. Getting slapped, it's such a serious thing to slap someone. My friend got slapped the other night because he was talking to this beautiful girl and turned to his right and said to this other girl that she was beautiful, and the woman slapped him. It was the girl's mother! You don't often hear about people getting slapped.

I don't know, I guess receiving one on screen, you just move your head very quickly to the right. That's always the thing: I think in life when you receive a blow physically, it's way more painful than they make it seem in the movie.

This movie was really bromantic. Kirk and Spock are really bros here.
It is, yeah.

What's your favorite movie bromance?
"Step Brothers" is just genius, one of the funniest films of all time.

Do you have a favorite line from that?
No, I'm not a boy. But I love it!

In a fight to the death among your cast, who would win?
In real life? Well, Benedict's character would win, I think, sadly, for the people of the universe. I'm gonna go with [Zachary] Quinto though.

Why?
He's a big dude. He's strong. He's got ... he's a soulful man, I bet he could fight. I've never seen him fight though, except epically in the movie.

Does he like to win?
No, no, no, he's not competitive. I think he's just well-built.

Kirk is a real player and throws out some terrible come-ons. What's the worst pick-up line you've ever heard?
"Can you give me a kiss?" When people go straight for dessert. They haven't even done any preamble.

Books. I went to university to do English, so I guess my kind of area of nerdiness comes out with words.

What genre?
Fiction, literature, poetry. Just English literature, really, I like to know about it.

What's the most outrageous lie you've heard about yourself?
Probably something my brothers say about me. I have two younger brothers who are very bossy.

What's your most-quoted movie line?
Well, obviously at the moment — well, actually, yesterday, all we said yesterday was "May the Force be with you" because it was [May the Fourth], so that's going around in my head. But I guess, "I'm just a girl standing in front of a guy, asking him to love me." Do you know what that's from?

We Say: "Cloud Atlas" is a movie so ambitious and unique that it went over the heads of the few moviegoers that took a gamble on it, but repeat viewers will be rewarded by picking up new connecting tissue — like the comet birthmark on several characters — with each look. The transgender and trans-racial makeup from story to story is distracting and often questionable, but if you can see beyond the cloud of putty noses you'll find an extraordinary story about how one soul (Hanks) evolves from a killer to a hero over many lifetimes and how a single act of kindness sparks a world-changing revolution. The core existential theme is that "separation is an illusion," and although the six stories seem completely unrelated at the start of the film, by the end you'll come to see that they are part of one daring vision that is unlike any movie you have ever seen.

Dozens of people have gone missing from Newt over the years, as Heather finds out when she takes a road trip with a group of friends to her new house and they discover something terrible living in the cellar: her cannibalistic cousin with a penchant for wearing masks made of human skin.

We Say: Although this movie picks up immediately after the events of the 1974 film and the re-creation of the original's house is spot-on, any DNA shared with the original unravels fast once "Texas Chainsaw" switches to more modern times and we meet Heather's friends — including token R&B star Tremaine Neverson, dropped in to attract a more diverse audience. Daddario appears to be in her 20s and that means this film takes place in the '90s since her character was a baby in the opening scene set in 1974, yet people in "Texas Chainsaw" are seen using iPhones — gadgets exactly no one had in the Clinton era. Still, gore hounds will like seeing Leatherface back as he saws through young people — especially in 3-D — even if this attempt to make Leatherface some kind of sympathetic antihero is a messy human BBQ.

Storyline: Is it possible to love and hate someone at the same time? That is the question Charles (Charlie Sheen), a successful L.A. graphic designer, must answer when his true love (Katheryn Winnick) abruptly breaks off their engagement and sends him on a downward spiral. This Roman Coppola-directed comedy also stars Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Patricia Arquette, Aubrey Plaza and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Extras!: Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain a commentary track by Coppola, a making-of featurette and the "A Glimpse into the Mind of Charles White" interview.
We Say: Coppola produced, wrote and directed this awkwardly-titled raunchy comedy in which Sheen plays a parody of himself and acts in several bizarre fantasy sequences that are filled with Hollywood imagery. The whole affair feels like you're watching a group of close friends getting together and clowning around while filming each other, which is essentially what "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III" is. The problem with this freestyle approach to filmmaking is that the actors are having more fun goofing around with each other than the viewer is watching them.

Storyline: This classic 1984 comedy follows college professors Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) after they lose their university jobs and decide to open a new business as a ghost-removal service. When a beautiful cellist (Sigourney Weaver) and her nerdy neighbor (Rick Moranis) accidentally open the gates of hell in their high-rise apartment building, who is New York City gonna call? Oh, you know.
Extras!: Sony's new "Mastered in 4K" series, of which "Ghostbusters" is part of the launch, contain no bonus features because all of the space is used for the highest quality 1080p picture. The new version is scanned from 4K source materials with optimized color so that owners of new Ultra HD TVs can take full advantage of upscaling technologies, but these new "Mastered in 4K" discs will still play on any regular Blu-ray player or PS3.
We Say: The 2009 "Ghosbusters" Blu-ray was made from a scary upconverted transfer that slimed a lot of videophiles. Sony created a brand new 4K transfer for this release that is definitely an improvement over the questionable 2009 edition. If you don't have an Utra HD TV, though, and your screen is under, say, 75 inches, the benefits might not be worth a double dip into this ectoplasm.

Is that Zachary Quinto, the Chief Science Officer of "Star Trek Into Darkness," running from the horror of "Aftershock"? Ah, no, at second glance, that's actually Quinto's doppelganger, Eli Roth, the man who gave us "Cabin Fever" and shot Hitler full o' holes in "Inglourious Basterds."

Anyway, with "Aftershock" and the new "Trek" being released back-to-back, we figured this was the perfect time to match up our favorite Hollywood doubles as they compete for roles, attention and DNA. It's like looking into a mirror!

If you think your eyes are starting to play tricks on you, think of this like that Olsen Twins movie "It Takes Two," but without Steve Guttenberg.

Leighton Meester & Minka Kelly

Luscious "Gossip Girl" star Meester might be "Country Strong," but she more than met her match in Minka Kelly, who shone on "Friday Night Lights" as the lovely Lyla Garrity. The two of them actually got to face off, "Single White Female"-style, in 2011's horror thriller "The Roommate," when they entered freshman orientation together — but only one came out alive. Easy, ladies!

Logan Marshall-Green & Tom Hardy

After the one-three punch of "Bronson," "Inception" and "Warrior," Tom Hardy was the hunk du jour in Hollywood, but now a nearly identical upstart is nipping at his heels. After treading the boards Off- (and occasionally Off-Off-) Broadway, relative newcomer (and NextFactor highlight) Logan Marshall-Green began wriggling his way to the big time last summer via Ridley Scott's "Prometheus." Of course, Hardy's Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" could probably throat-punch an alien to death with his eyes closed.

Carey Mulligan & Michelle Williams

It's all about the gorgeous swan-like necks. Carey and Michelle could not be more different as actors; the former has an old-school, boisterous lightness while the latter, in both real life and on film, is introspective, reserved, even ethereal. We almost did a double-take in 2011 when Mulligan was seen on screen with Williams' "Blue Valentine" sweetheart Ryan Gosling in "Drive."

Javier Bardem & Jeffrey Dean Morgan

In their signature roles as Anton Chigurh in "No Country For Old Men" and The Comedian in "Watchmen," respectively, Bardem and Morgan pull off striking, bull-in-a-china-shop characters whose moral compasses have long since been flushed down the toilet. Oddly, strewn across their paths of destruction we find very real human fragments to latch onto ... and that's not on the page, it's in the performances. Still, we wouldn't want to run into either of these tough customers in a dark alley.

Josh Duhamel & Timothy Olyphant

These doppelgangers have yet to cross paths on screen, but when they do, it's sure to be electric. Olyphant first captured our attention as the lead in HBO's foulmouthed fan-favorite "Deadwood," then graduated to playing men of dubious intent in flicks like "Live Free or Die Hard." Duhamel is more the average all-American Joe type, playing a soldier for the "Transformers" trilogy and romantic leads in fluff like "Safe Haven." Does the U.S. Marshal on "Justified" need a half-brother?

Palmer has nearly nabbed roles in "Justice League," "Mad Max" and the "Spider-Man" movies, but this talented blonde will forever be in the shadow of her movie duplicate, Kristen Stewart. Despite different hair, they share a shocking resemblance. Palmer may be catching up to Stewart, though, as she recently starred as a human who swoons over a member of the undead (a zombie this time, in "Warm Bodies").

When you first saw "Spanglish" (if you did at all), you might have been wondering how they decided to pair Penélope Cruz with Adam Sandler, of all people. Well, after careful examination of the credits, turns out it wasn't Cruz at all — *SHOCK* — but another gorgeous Spanish actress, Paz Vega. Only two years apart, these two need to get Pedro Almodóvar to write a movie where they're sisters, pronto. C'mon, Pedro, maybe sisters with a gay transvestite mother, hmm?

When did nerds stop seeking revenge on their jock oppressors and start warring amongst each other? Okay, so technically these two haven't directly engaged in combat, verbal or Thunderdome-style ... but there are still many who believe that when it comes to Cera & Eisenberg, two men enter, one man leaves. Despite the current Jesse-positive climate thanks to that little "The Social Network" movie and the upcoming "Now You See Me," these are both super-young dudes with plenty of awkwardness left to give.

Chris Hemsworth & Chris Pine

Playing father and son in 2009's "Star Trek" may have tipped these two Chrises off that they kinda sorta look alike. Hemsworth made his film debut playing James T. Kirk's ill-fated papa George for a scant few minutes, but it gave him the oomph he needed to impress the Marvel brass to pin him as The God of Freakin' Thunder, "Thor." Pine had to delicately dance around the iconic Shatner characterizations to make the Starship Enterprise his own, but he did, and has been unstoppable ever since.

Pine's pointy-eared shipmate Spock was almost always a lock for Quinto, whom fans immediately pegged as a dead-on lookalike for Leonard Nimoy after he made his name on "Heroes." But Zachary also resembles our favorite bloodthirsty writer-director Eli Roth. When he's not hanging out in cabins or hostels, Roth occasionally moonlights on-screen for pals like Quentin Tarantino, for whom he relished machine-gunning Hitler in "Inglourious Basterds."

Now that Katy Perry is acting (she played super-hot Smurfette in "The Smurfs") and divorced from a famous husband, there may literally be nothing that separates her from her big-eyed mirror-image, Zooey Deschanel. Though Perry may be the bigger musical superstar for now, the swoon-worthy "New Girl" has been known to belt it out when she performs as one-half of She & Him, so watch out, Katy.

Alan Cumming & Paul Reubens

And speaking of Smurfs, we finally found two fellas who have come to terms with their lookalike status by agreeing to be in the same movie. In "The Smurfs" Reubens played the gag-gifting Jokey Smurf, while Cumming portrayed the newest character, Gutsy Smurf. Although these were voice-only roles, it was only a matter of time before these two get together for realsies (like they did at the "Pee-Wee" premiere on Broadway). Maybe if the show reopens, Cumming could appear as the depressive younger brother, WeePee Herman, who cries a lot?

Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley must currently have a good thing going on the set of "Divergent," as once that gig wraps they'll be teaming up again for another YA (yet decidedly more real-world) adaptation, "The Fault in Our Stars."

"Fault" is based on the novel by John Green that chronicles the tragic love story of Gus and Hazel, two teenagers who meet in a cancer support group. "Their ensuing love story is as real as it is doomed, and the gut-busting laughs that come early in the novel make the luminous final pages all the more heartbreaking," according to the rave review at Entertainment Weekly.

Woodley beat over 250 candidates for the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster this past March, with director Josh Boone claiming that "it wasn't until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time. It was like lightning striking. I can't wait for the rest of the world to see what I have."

Meanwhile, Elgort, who plays Woodley's brother in "Divergent," has been cast as Augustus 'Gus' Waters ... and novelist John Green couldn't be happier.

“Ansel is whip-smart and uber-charismatic and everything I dreamed for Augustus Waters," Green told Inside Movies in an exclusive statement. "I am by nature a cautious pessimist, but I’ll just say it: Now that we have Shailene and Ansel, I am completely, unreservedly psyched about this movie."

Production on "The Fault in Our Stars" will commence once Woodley and Elgort wrap their respective roles as Beatrice 'Tris' Prior and Caleb Prior in "Divergent." It will certainly be interesting to see the duo go from siblings to sweethearts over the course of two consecutive film projects ... and probably a little weird, too.

Meanwhile, Ansel Elgort will next be seen as dreamboat Tommy Ross in the "Carrie" remake, opening Oct. 18, and Shailene Woodley will next be seen in "The Spectacular Now," opening Aug. 2. Woodley also recently wrapped her role as Mary Jane Watson in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," which opens May 2, 2014.

Until we totally did.

It's one of those can't-unsee-once-you-see situations, but it's cool. There's just no arguing with it — the man wears a pink suit, for crying out loud.

Glam filmmaker Baz Luhrmann's reimagining of F. Scott Fitzgerald's timeless Jazz-age romance "The Great Gatsby" looks like my 11th grade book report had sex with a disco ball, but that's par for the course. Luhrmann had previously razzle-dazzled "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet" and reunites with Leonardo DiCaprio as enigmatic rich dude Jay Gatsby, clinging to the memory of a past dalliance with Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). Clinging tragically, that is … What? Hey, it's an 88-year-old book, the statute of limitations on spoilers ran out quite a few decades ago. You can watch Gatsby die in 3-D, appropriate since critical consensus points to this old sport being the first box office casualty of the summer.

NETFLIX RECOMMENDS WITH A VENGEANCE
While words like "restrained" and "subdued" aren't part of Baz Luhrmann's vocabulary, they aptly describe the previous 1974 attempt at "The Great Gatsby" starring '70s golden boy Robert Redford, available on Netflix Streaming. Come for the lingering shots of palatial mansions and longing gazes, stay for the erudite bon mots and racism. Woody Allen's ex-muse Mia Farrow plays Daisy, while the screenplay was adapted by none other than "The Godfather" director Francis Ford Coppola.

*SPECIAL EVENT*
Speaking of lavish parties, my pals over at Bottleneck Gallery in Brooklyn, NY are throwing a humdinger tonight as they open their latest movie-themed art show "I Love You Man" from 7-10pm. You can get your bromance on with depictions of cinema's best buds, including "Three Amigos," Han and Chewie of "Star Wars" and Jules and Vincent of "Pulp Fiction," among many others. Those who attend opening night get first dibs on limited prints, which go online for purchase tomorrow (the 11th) at noon, and YOURS TRULY has a piece in this show as well, from a certain classic Steven Spielberg movie. As fellow artist James Franco would say, "Look at all my S**T!"

NETFLIX RECOMMENDS WITH A VENGEANCE
If you want to get clued-in to the hubbub surrounding the current poster subculture, then spend 80 minutes with some of the darlings of the scene via the new doc "Just Like Being There," available on Netflix Streaming. Despite some annoying sound issues, I found this to be an exemplary look at how gig posters capture the spirit of an event, be it a Nada Surf concert or a special Mondo secret screening of "Dawn of the Dead." Awesome artists like Jay Ryan, Daniel Danger and others share their inspirations for flatstock imagery at its finest. Dig it.

YOU DOWN WITH VOD?
All my readers with some ink will want to hit up Yekra to stream (or order on DVD) the new documentary "Tattoo Nation," this week's heartily recommended "Survivor of Thunderdome." It focuses on homegrown American tattoo styles, from black and grey guitar-string prison tattoos to the beautiful color work done by Ed Hardy and company, as well as how Chicano culture shaped what became the archetypal styles of the medium. The highlight is definitely cinematic badass Danny Trejo ("Machete") showing off his tats and accompanying his daughter to get inked. Now that's a cool dad.

BASIC CABLE BLUES
What better pairing with a tattoo doc than a movie where two guys get tanked and wake up with tats, asking themselves "Dude, Where's My Car?" at 10:30 a.m. on FX. The tats in question say "DUDE" and "SWEET," leading to one of the most hilarious miscommunication bits since "Who's on first?" Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott play the leads, before the weight of the world crushed their spirits.

THE CON IS ON
This is a good weekend for autograph hounds. The Port City Pop Con in Wilmington, North Carolina has Michael Biehn from the likes of "Aliens," "The Terminator," "Planet Terror," et al. If that wasn't enough you also got Ghostbuster extraordinaire Ernie Hudson, Hellboy's skinny buddy Abe Sapien i.e. Doug Jones, Dee Wallace (Elliott's mom from "E.T.") and Richard Edson from motherf**cking "Stranger Than Paradise" … HELLS YEAH!!!

Meanwhile, Virginia is for lovers, but Virginia Beach is for horror as Blood on the Beach reigns in ten actors from "The Devil's Rejects," a "Friday the 13th Part VII" reunion, Doug Bradley a.k.a. Pinhead from "Hellraiser" and the first con appearance from Michael Rappaport. Oh, and lest we forget, former underage porn queen/John Waters regular Traci Lords. Pretty sure she's legal now.

NEW ON BLU
Why not kick off this Mother's Day with the wildly apropos Blu-ray release of this year's horror hit "Mama." I loved the hell out of this old-fashioned ghost yarn from producer Guillermo del Toro when it dropped in January, with Jessica Chastain all sexily punked out and giving a nasty female specter what for. Gotta hand the filmmakers mad props for following through on an ending that is, while immensely satisfying, not AT ALL what you would expect from a PG-13 studio programmer.

HULU HEAVEN
"If life gives you lemons, make lemonade; if life gives you assholes, make a Troma movie." Truer words were never spoken, James Gunn, and why not harken back to the golden era (more like golden shower era) of skeezy old Troma Studios with the cult classic "Mother's Day" (1980), available on HULU fo free, yo. From its skuzzball synth score to choppy editing to truly bizarre performances, this slasher entry has a deranged old hag (Rose Ross) and her hillbilly sons getting their rocks off by torturing three young ladies on a camping trip. It's standard rape revenge fare given a cocaine-enhanced edge of pure concentrated weirdness. Watch it in its entirety below:

BASIC CABLE BLUES
If you're looking for a Mother's Day movie you can actually watch with your mom, why not give the Oscar-winning cuteness of "Juno" a try at 9 a.m. on Oxygen. Adorably sardonic high schooler Ellen Page gets knocked up and opts to give her bun in the oven up to an adoptive couple (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), despite lingering feelings for her unlikely baby daddy (Michael Cera). Director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody made their mark with this cutesy feminist-friendly love story, but their darker collaboration "Young Adult" is much, much better IMHO.

PAY CHANNEL PAYBACK
It wouldn't be a proper Mother's Day without an unbridled celebration of child abuse, thus IFC is running the 1981 camp fest "Mommie Dearest" four times in a row from noon through 11 p.m. Faye Dunaway plays screen idol Joan Crawford as an OCD bat outta hell, tormenting her young daughter to an inch of her life. "I told you! No wire hangers, ever!"

R.I.P. RAY HARRYHAUSEN
Finally, I just want to pay a quick remembrance to a man that inspired me and innumerable other geeks, dweebs and fantasy nerds with his boundless imagination. You will be missed, Ray Harryhausen, and I won't forget that one afternoon at a theater in Jersey City showing "Jason and the Argonauts" when you took a few minutes out of your day to sign my sketchbook and give me encouragement. See you in the clouds, sir.

As I ride off into the distant horizon, here's wishing you fellow weekend road warriors the best outing possible from this burnt-out, blighted wasteland. Enjoy your fast Internet, clean-ish movie theaters, plentiful gasoline and all the comforts of home, for this world lives now only in my memories …

The "Great Gatsby" star may be known throughout Hollywood for his good looks and killer acting chops, but the guy has a secret. Or rather, he has at least 20 of them.

When flipping through pages and pages of photos of the star, we notice something — either Leo's in an epic game of Telephone or he likes to get up close and personal when he tells people stuff. F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby" was first published in April 1925 and has since gone on to be read by millions of high school students around the globe, proclaimed as the second-best English language novel by the Modern Library (right behind James Joyce's "Ulysses") and all in all a brilliant depiction of the Roaring Twenties and a scathing deconstruction of post-WWI American idealism.

The novel has to date been adapted for the screen five times, with the most famous arguably being the 1974 version directed by Jack Clayton, adapted by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby. The most recent adaptation is directed by Baz Luhrmann, the boisterous showman who brought us highly theatrical yet also richly cinematic party movies like "Romeo + Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge!" It's also the first version to be in 3-D.

So how would Fitzgerald himself feel about his Great American Novel being adapted for the third dimension? We caught up with him to find out. Yes, the following conversation actually happened — believe it, old sports.

[F. SCOTT FITZGERALD meets NextMovie's Nick Blake at a diner on Route 17 in New Jersey]

NICK BLAKE: Scott, hello. Thanks for coming.

F. SCOTT FITZGERALD: Bully! But it's "F. Scott," actually.

NB: Oh. Wikipedia said ...wait, you make people call you "F. Scott"? Aren't you from Minnesota?

FSF: Sir, I'm the writer of "The Great Gatsby," one of the all-time greatest works of American fiction. You don't feel that I've acquired the right to have acquaintances call to me as I prefer? [laughs] You beautiful little fool.

NB: I'm 6'2". But fine. "Francis S" it is.

FSF: I'm afraid your witticisms amuse only you, old sport.

NB: That's what the comments sections say, except with more typos and offensive slurs. Listen: They're making another "Gatsby" movie. Slight correction: it's been made. It's done.

FSF: Movie, you say? Is that a moving picture?

NB: Moving picture, yes.

FSF: And is it a talkie?

NB: A talkie? Oh, um. Yes. There's talking.

FSF: [Heavy sigh]

NB: Well, if anything, I imagine anyone lucky enough to be your descendent reaps the financial rewards of such a project in some way.

FSF: Alas, the dead are not free to guzzle highballs while enjoying the dancing ebb and flow of a splendidly-constructed 280-foot yacht on Long Island Sound!

NB: ... Right. Besides, a 3-D movie based on your book is only going to serve to have those who had no previous desire ...

FSF: What is this now? A threety movie? Like a hellish marriage of "three" and "meaty"?

NB: What? What could that even ... no. A "3-D" movie. It's ... you probably won't like this much.

FSF: I've readied myself. Continue. 

NB: Basically, you wear blue and red-tinted plastic glasses amongst strangers, and the movie jumps out as if it's in front of you as opposed to projected on a screen. It literally means "three-dimensional."

FSF: Three-dimensional? What is this third dimension? Can you get there by trolley? Or do you have to take one of the Wright Brothers' famous flying contraptions?

NB: No, it's ... it's not a place.

FSF: [shakes head] So this is what Marty, Finchy, Short-Stack, Randolph, Stain-Face, Cipriani and I fought the Great War for. Moving pictures in the third dimension!

NB: To be fair, it looks really nice.

FSF: To be fair to whom? [sighs, looks at the ceiling] These short-winded elations of men will damn us all.

NB: You've been dead for 73 years.

FSF: Yes, well, the bottle is just as lethal, sadly.

[A Waitress approaches]

Waitress: What'll it be?

NB: Just a burger, medium, please.

FSF: I'll take your finest medallion of spring lamb saddled by a dash of cream of celery with toasties, and make it snappy, toots!

NB: Please keep it down. And I don't think so — he was in the "Pussy Posse." Anyway, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Gatsby, and the rapper Jay-Z recorded a song for it.

FSF: Old sport, I believe you just momentarily spoke in tongues. You blacked out and babbled "rapperjayzee" in the middle of your otherwise reasonable sentence.

NB: No. Rapping is like singing except it's faster and it rhymes. Jay-Z is the man's name. Like the letters J and Z.

FSF: [under his breath] Reserving judgment is a matter of infinite hope.

NB: Yeah, you probably wouldn't like him. He's a billionaire philanthropist from New York with humble roots who throws lavish parties and landed a beautiful woman who was probably out of his reach if it wasn't for his wealth.

FSF: Tell me more of this "K-C" fellow! Does he sail?

NB: [to Waitress] The check, when you get the chance.

10. Jennifer Coolidge in 'American Pie' (1999)

The thing that's unique about Coolidge and why she receives the honor of batting leadoff on this list is that she's not exactly "classically" MILF-hot in the sense of "Overall hot woman who also happens to have children" MILF-hot (yes, there are categories of MILF-hotness as of right now). Instead, what Coolidge brings is a lack of subtlety to the proceedings, which almost rates as much as general attractiveness when assessing MILF-sexiness. (That sentence isn't going on my resume.) There's no ambiguity: She will go for teenagers, and the fact that Coolidge is a hilarious comedic actress is the proverbial cherry on top. Plus, the term "MILF" itself was coined in her name. Well done, Jen.

9. Diane Lane in 'Unfaithful' (2002)

Diane Lane's role in "Unfaithful" was great at the time because it was equally beloved by critics and creep-shows alike. So whereas perverts in raincoats would permeate theaters across the country on sunny days to see Lane get down with Olivier Martinez in the movie, they could still subsequently pretend to discuss it on a "Diane Lane deserves the Oscar! She was fantastic!" level in public amongst their more straight-edge friends. It was a win-win for everybody. Also ... holy hell Diane Lane in this movie. Jesus H.

8. Kim Basinger in '8 Mile' (2002)

Poor B-Rabbit. Not only does no one from the hood believe in his rap skillz, but he also has to deal with the fact that he has the hottest mom in the trailer park and the truly horrifying Michael Shannon was among those who noticed. Not fun. The most surprising thing about "8 Mile" wasn't Eminem's previously-unheralded acting abilities; it was the lack of dialogue amongst Rabbit's friends about Basinger's sexiness. They would have been all over that — or at least some sort of question along the lines of, "So if you guys are broke trailer trash, how come your mom has a $700 haircut?"

7. Maria Bello in 'A History of Violence' (2005)

Bello's sexiness is kind of lost in the shuffle of a really good movie in "A History of Violence." You're often too busy doing other things to notice Bello, like trying to figure out if Viggo Mortensen is who he seems: an actual human versus a real-life fully-grown Pinocchio doll (BURN jk luv u Viggo). But then director David Cronenberg makes you remember with two different "Whoooaaa" scenes, both to break up the "Holy s**t everyone might die in a hail of bullets at any moment" vibe of the movie and to say "And BTW yes I know I have Maria Bello in my movie; everyone calm down." We're calm, Dave. Jeez.

6. Eva Mendes in 'Training Day' (2001)

Denzel Washington's character in "Training Day" may have done a lot of bad things and made a lot of poor choices, but Eva Mendes wasn't one of them. (And while we're here, so as to pull back on the perv-status of this entire article for a second, the kid who played their son was adorable. Okay, back to discussing naked chicks.) It almost made you feel bad for Denzel as he was lit up by the Russkies at the end of the movie — not only did he lose his life, but he never gets to spend any "alone time" with Eva ever again. Life is sad sometimes, guys.

5. Halle Berry in 'Monster's Ball' (2001)

Hoooooooohhhh boy, Halle Berry. Yikes. Because of "Monster's Ball," Berry has a real, actual answer to the normally demeaning-but-facetious "You got an Oscar? Who'd you have to screw to get that?" question: "Billy Bob Thornton, actually. But it was fake." Or was it? How surprised would you be, exactly, if it wasn't? Also, how grossed out? Side note: Billy Bob was rolling pretty f**king well in 2001, no? "Boy, that was some great morning sex, Angie, but I gotta run out and get paid to get naked with Halle Berry now. Back at six for dinner!" Yes, it was disgusting at the time, and it's disgusting now.

4. Jane Seymour in 'Wedding Crashers' (2005)

See? Even when the children are all girls, it's still not fun to have a hot mom, e.g., when she corners your future husband in his bedroom and asks him to squeeze her brand new boobs. And also, see? It's still great for the rest of us! I feel like Seymour was introduced to a brand new generation of people as a MILF in "Wedding Crashers," which is not to say nobody my age knew she could bring it, so to speak, but ... actually, yes, it is to say that, now that I think about it. She was throwing heat in that movie, and she's still at least painting the corners at 91 or 92 MPH in her current run of "Open Heart Pendant" commercials for Kay Jewelers.

3. Demi Moore in 'Striptease' (1996)

We're not sure "Striptease" was about anything more than Demi Moore at the height of her career saying, "Hey, I'm super hot and I'd like a movie where I play a character with noble intentions who nonetheless is naked all the time, if that's possible" and Hollywood's most easily-influenced producers (also known as just "producers") saying "Sure!" And that was fine with all of us, too. She's still quite attractive these days as well, I might add, if not quite good enough for a certain star of a s**tty CBS sitcom.

2. Angelina Jolie in 'Beowulf' (2007)

The great thing about adapting books or graphic novels or video games or poems or Don Henley songs to movies is that you don't have to stay true to the source at all so long as you keep the title and the names of some of its characters. Take Angelina Jolie as Grendel's Mother in "Beowulf," for example. Does it say anywhere in the original poem that Grendel's Mom had anything close to Angelina Jolie's body? No. Did the film's producers still cast Jolie and only lightly touch up her naked body (her character's wardrobe) in post so as not to have an NC-17 movie and a mess on their hands (pun intended)? You bet. It's a great country.

1. Anne Bancroft in 'The Graduate' (1967)

Yes, the "MILF" was coined by John Cho in "American Pie" because of Coolidge, but everyone and their mother acknowledges that the first true MILF was indeed Anne Bancroft, who took a trip to Poundtown with a young Dustin Hoffman in "The Graduate." Bancroft was also (of course) the influence to Simon and Garfunkel's classic "Mrs. Robinson," and with all due respect to Coolidge, Simon and Garfunkel have never written a song about her (unless you count their 1987 power ballad, "Stifler's Mom."**) Even posthumously, Bancroft rules the roost.

At 7:56 p.m. ET, Josh Horowitz will join stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Benedict Cumberbatch and director J.J. Abrams to introduce the never-before-seen clip and then sit down with the cast and crew for a 30-minute interview about the upcoming movie.

This week: Tom Cruise proves naysayers wrong yet again in the above-average thriller "Jack Reacher," which was shot entirely in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is based on Lee Child's 2005 mystery novel, "One Shot."

Also new this week is the horror hit "Mama" with Jessica Chastain, the Nicholas Sparks adaptation "Safe Haven" with Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough and the Blu-ray 3D conversion of "Gamer" with Gerard Butler.

'Jack Reacher'

Storyline: After five people are shot to death along a riverside Pittsburgh trail, a man is arrested and writes only one message: "Get Jack Reacher." Tom Cruise plays Reacher, an ex-military investigator who lives off the grid and ascertains that the accused has been framed. Reacher teams up with the accused's defense attorney (Rosamund Pike) to figure out who is really behind the shootings on the North Shore Trail and whether or not all the people killed were truly random. Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, Werner Herzog and Jai Courtney also star in this adaptation "One Shot," one of Lee Child's many Jack Reacher novels.
Extras!: Bonus features are only available on the Blu-ray, which include two commentary tracks (one with Cruise), a making-of feature, "You Do Not Mess with Jack Reacher: Combat and Weapons" and a look at the popularity of the "Jack Reacher" book series.
We Say: "Jack Reacher" isn't breaking any new ground but it's refreshing to see an old-school action thriller sans any blatant CGI wizardry. Just like when Cruise was cast as Lestat in "Interview with the Vampire," fans initially complained that the actor didn't match the physical description of the character in the books: a tall, imposing figure. And, like "Interview with the Vampire," Cruise again proves that his talent for adapting to the requirements of a character should never be underestimated.

'Mama'

Storyline: This surprise horror hit presented by Guillermo del Toro tells the tale of two young girls who disappeared in the woods the day their parents were killed. Five years later, the girls are found living in a decrepit cabin and are brought home to live with their uncle, Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), and his rocker girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica Chastain). When Lucas is injured and ends up in the hospital, a reluctant Annabel is tasked with helping the young girls acclimate to a world they left behind. But something has followed the girls back from the woods: a supernatural presence that they call "Mama."
Extras!: Both the DVD and Blu-ray have a commentary track with sibling writer-directors Andre and Barbara Muschietti, "The Birth of 'Mama'" behind-the-scenes featurette, the original short film introduced by del Toro and six deleted scenes. The Blu-ray also has "Matriarchal Secrets: The Visual Effects of 'Mama,'" which explains how the CG was a finishing touch added over as many practical effects as possible.
We Say: Like Ethan Hawke's clout-aided "Sinister," Chastain was riding high on the acclaim from "Zero Dark Thirty" when "Mama" hit theaters and thusly attracted a wider audience to this genre film. Aside from having a more celebrated leading lady than most horror films, the genuinely creepy "Mama" works by building suspense and not revealing the titular menace too soon. By the time you get a good look at what's been looking over the lost little girls, you might find yourself afraid to look into a dark closet ... just like Chastain's character.

'Safe Haven'

Rotten Tomatoes: 13% Rotten
Storyline: The latest Nicholas Sparks romance novel adaptation stars Julianne Hough as a young woman who moves to a new town for a fresh start and Josh Duhamel as a widowed store owner with whom Hough starts a relationship. Will the dark secrets she is keeping spoil the romance? Have you ever seen a movie based on a Sparks book before?
Extras!: Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain deleted scenes and an alternative ending. The Blu-ray adds "Igniting the Romance in 'Safe Haven,'" a set tour and "Josh Duhamel's Lesson in Crabbing."
We Say: It's been said before and is worth repeating: Nicholas Sparks must be stopped at all costs. There is an audience for "The Notebook" author's unwavering commitment to schmaltz and syrupy sentimentality, but these movie adaptations of his work do nothing except showcase pretty actors lit by soft, pretty light acting pretty PG-13. If this does it for you, grab a bowl of the vanilla-est vanilla ice cream and enjoy the processed sweetness.

'Gamer' Blu-ray 3D

Storyline: In the not-too-distant future, video game god Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall) has made billions of dollars from the ultimate video game: "Slayers," a a mass-scale, multi-player first-person shooter that allows players to control participants in real life. Unfortunately, the participants are mostly death row inmates fighting for a shot at freedom, including Kable (Gerard Butler), a man framed for a crime he didn't commit. The only hope Kable has of regaining his freedom and seeing his family is to escape the constraints of the game and expose Castle for the fraud he is.
Extras!: The only extra on this Blu-ray 3D is the same one as the previous Blu-ray release: an 80-minute, multi-part documentary called "Inside the Game: Controlling 'Gamer.'"
We Say: This hyperkinetic 2009 sci-fi action flick unfolds like a video game with nonstop action and quick cuts for Generation ADHD … but you already knew that. This new 3-D conversion is a curious choice for Lionsgate since the movie didn't exactly tear up the box office like other recent 3-D conversions ("Jurassic Park"). Still, the 3-D does add a lot of welcome depth, like the scenes in the underground rave and wide shots of the city. When the action is mano a mano, the benefits are negligible, but fans of the movie will still want to upgrade for the added dimension.

The visual effects department had to do a pretty bang-up job to make Joseph Gordon-Levitt look even remotely similar to a young yippee ki-yaying mother-f---er Bruce Willis in Rian Johnson's time-hopping "Looper," but since Hollywood's baddest, baldest ass-kicker was blessed with three daughters and no sons in real life, there wasn't much of a choice. Sure, all that pain and suffering ultimately paid off, but there are some people who've got it way, way easier.

For fellow action hero Will Smith, for example, his prime mini-me is his own son Jaden who doesn't need a stitch of prosthesis to pull it off because, you know, doy. The two star as, surprise surprise, father and son in M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming sci-fi thriller "After Earth," and we swear that the older Fresh Prince Jr. gets, the more of that Big Willie Style he inherits.

Surprisingly enough, they're not the only Hollywood-ites to mirror one another so closely across the generation space. LaLa Land Looperism is actually more common than ya might think, and we've got our lucky 13 favorites plucked out right here for your amazement.

The casting director on "Stuck on Love" must've needed exactly zero minutes to knot together this mother-daughter pair for the indie family drama. The two adorably bush-browed brunettes share the same milky complexion, gazelle-esque body frames and delicate little poses. Oh, and they're both ridiculously gorgeous.

WARNING: HERE BE CRAZY SPOILERS.

If you are a living, breathing human being between the ages of four and 110, then it's almost a certainty that at some point this month, you'll be going to see "Iron Man Three." And not just once but probably several times.

That's because every Marvel film seems to be jam-packed with secret references, hidden jokes and insider Easter eggs designed to thrizzle even the most jaded movie or comic book fan. Forget that RunPee app that tells you when it's safe to leave the theater; in "Iron Man Three," every single second could hold an encrypted message teasing "Howard the Duck 2" or hinting at a crossover with Daredevil or something. Seeing "Iron Man Three" just once simply isn't an option; after all, it's more than a movie, it's a pop culture test you have to study for.

So in order to help you get the most out of your second trip to the theater, we've put together a guide to 7 Things You May Have Missed the First Time Around in "Iron Man Three." Because you don't want to be the one with Easter egg on your face.

1. Dr. Yinsen Lives!

Marvel

The film begins with a flashback to a 1999 conference in Bern, Switzerland, where Tony briefly meets and then blows off two fellow scientists, Dr. Yu and Dr. Yinsen. Dr. Yu has been getting most of the press, since his character is part of the film's China-only expanded release, but it's Dr. Yinsen who is of real interest to "Iron Man" fans. That's because Yinsen (Shaun Toub) is actually the same guy who saved Tony Stark's life at the beginning of the first "Iron Man" film back in 2008! Not only that, but in "Iron Man," Yinsen actually makes a direct reference to having met Stark previously at a conference in Bern, making the entire opening sequence of "Iron Man Three" one giant Easter egg. Now that's how you do it.

2. Just Who Is Tony Talking To?

In that opening sequence, we also get a voiceover from Robert Downey, Jr., who literally sets the scene for the movie by telling us the tale of everything that went down. But is he actually telling this story to us, the audience ... or is he talking to someone else? If you stick around for the credits, you'll find out the answer, because in one of Marvel's patented "secret" post-credit scenes, we discover that Tony is really telling the story to ... Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) himself! It's a nice callback to the end of "Marvel's The Avengers," where the two of them drove off into the sunset together.

3. The Credits That Will Not End

Oh, and speaking of those credits, holy smokes. We thought they would literally never end. But there's a pretty good reason for that: Marvel is screwing with us. Knowing that fans would be sticking around to watch the credits, the producers dragged them out for a full ten minutes, listing not only every single person who even thought about working on the film, but some completely fictional crew members as well. Just check out the giant wall of text that comes up when they get to the special effects department and you'll notice at least one patently bogus name: Gwyneth Waltrow. How many other inside jokes are hidden in the credits? You'll have to watch them again and play your own game of Where's Waltrow? to find out.

4. The Hulkbuster

At the climax of the film, Tony unleashes a veritable army of Iron Man suits. But while most of those suits barely get more than a brief cameo, one suit of armor in particular gets an extended closeup, as an immense Iron Man prototype comes running out of nowhere to hoist up a massive crane on its broad shoulders. In fact, the armor is so big and so strong, it resembles nothing so much as a metallic version of The Hulk — which is no coincidence at all, as the design is clearly based on Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor from the comics, which he created explicitly to fight and defeat The Hulk. So does the existence of the Hulkbuster suit presage a showdown between Stark and Banner in an upcoming movie? We sure as hell hope so!

5. Stan Lee, Cameo Artist

Spotting the cameo of Marvel's Chairman Emeritus Stan Lee has become a bit of a ritual for Marvel movie fans, as the legendary co-creator of Iron Man has made brief appearances in nearly every single superhero film based on Marvel characters in the past 15 years. Some are bigger than others, though, and this time around you may miss it if you're distracted — by, for instance, the beauty pageant swimsuit competition he's judging. Hey, what can you say — the ladies love Stan Lee as much as everyone else does.

6. The Secret of Modern Art

In previous installments of the "Iron Man" franchise, some of the coolest Easter eggs have been hidden in plain sight inside Tony Stark's high-tech lab (think Captain America's shield in the first two "Iron Man" films). And this time around is no different. Case in point: That weird big ball of twisted metal sitting in the background? It might appear to just be a random chunk of modern art, but look a little closer and you'll see that it's actually the mangled remnants of the Formula One race car Tony drove in "Iron Man 2." Nothing like a two-ton souvenir, right?

7. Giant-Size Man-Thing

Though the movie is technically about Iron Man, a great deal of its DNA actually comes from a very different Marvel character: the mysterious Man-Thing. In the comics, you see, the cult hero called Man-Thing was originally a scientist who was doing top secret research on plants in the Everglades when his wife betrayed him to AIM. In desperation, he injected himself with his untested formula, only to discover it had seriously unexpected consequences. All of that, of course, is in "Iron Man Three," with AIM using a formula based on plant research to give people superpowers. Need more? Well, how about this: The female AIM agent (played by Stephanie Szostak) who battles Tony to the death midway through the film is named Ellen Brandt, who is best known to comics fans as Man-Thing's treacherous wife. The character even has the scar on her face she received fighting Man-Thing in the comics! So what does all this mean for a possible Man-Thing appearance in Phase Two? Only time will tell.

With "Iron Man Three" already destroying box office records around the world and inspiring fans across America to brave huge lines and packed theaters, the folks at Disney and Marvel are no doubt in full-on party mode. But while things couldn't be better at the moment, one very dark cloud looms on the horizon: the prospect that Robert Downey Jr. has donned the Iron Man armor for the last time.

So will Downey Jr. return for "Iron Man 4"? Or is this the end of Iron Man as we know it?

Sure, that may sound like a crazy idea, but rumors have been swirling for months now that Downey, Jr. will in fact be leaving the Marvel fold. And these rumors have a pretty credible source: Downey Jr. himself.

"Right now I don’t have a contract to do anything, and I did for the last five years," Downey Jr. told GQ recently. "How many genre movies can I do? How many follow-ups to a successful follow-up are actually fun?"

Then Gwyneth Paltrow threw even more fuel on the fire when she told Geek Nation that "I don't think there's going to be [an 'Iron Man 4']. I think we're done with 'Iron Man.'"

Marvel's response? No problem, we'll just recast everybody if we have to.

"I hope Downey makes a lot of movies for us as Stark," Marvel's movie guru Kevin Feige told MovieWeb. "If and when he doesn't, and I'm still here making these movies, we don't take him to Afghanistan and have him wounded again. I think we James Bond it."

All those dire warnings have led to many to begin speculation over who might take over the role. But now, Downey Jr. is backtracking, telling Empire in a recent interview that "the only thing I ever let go of had claw marks in it."

"There's a little bit of soul reclamation going on," he added. "I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best. Sorry! The affinity with Tony now is: How do you sustain something? Which may explain why "Iron Man Three" director Shane Black is so sure that Downey Jr. will be back for "Iron Man 4" and even "Iron Man 5." "There has been a lot of discussion about it: 'Is this the last Iron Man for Robert?' Something tells me that it will not be the case, and he will be seen in a fourth, or fifth," said Black, according to Screen Rant. "But I can be a little excited."

Robert Downey Jr. coming back for "Iron Man 4"? Now that's enough to get any fan excited. Here's hoping.

What makes a Hollywood face "scary"?

The ways to get on the following list are indeed diverse. You could have made an entire career off of having a naturally horrifying face (reluctantly looking at you, Mr. Englund). You could have a nightmare-inducing mugshot floating on the internet forever (hi, Mr. Nolte). You could even have a relatively friendly face that still is kind of ... well ... noteworthy (Buscemi). One thing's for sure: Each and every person on this list is beautiful on the inside, and that's all that matters.

Having said that, let's talk about how scary their faces are. Look within.

Marvel

Sometimes when fans go to see superhero movies they already know in advance everything there is to know about the bad guy. After all, everyone's familiar with The Joker or Lex Luthor. However, sometimes the bad guy is some relatively obscure figure known only to scholars of the source comic book — you know, like Bane or Thanos or Parallax.

So, for many fans, the biggest question heading into — and coming out of — "Iron Man Three" is this: Who the heck is this nefarious shadowy fellow who calls himself The Mandarin?

Hey, glad you asked. Otherwise this Mandarin Primer we just put together would have really been a waste of time.

In "Iron Man Three," The Mandarin is played by Sir Ben Kingsley. And he's apparently the leader of an international terrorist organization (remember that vague "Ten Rings" reference from the first "Iron Man" film?) who targets Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark as part of his latest diabolical scheme.

All of which has some basis in the original comics. Even the part where a Chinese villain is played by a very British actor.

Marvel

First debuting in the Iron Man strip back in 1964's Tales of Suspense #50, The Mandarin was the son of a Chinese father and a British mother. Orphaned at a young age, The Mandarin spent his father's fortune to train himself as an expert scientist and martial artist, kind of like an evil Batman.

Left broke, the obsessed Mandarin experienced a serious stroke of luck when he discovered a crashed spaceship, which is kind of like hitting the supervillain lottery. Using the alien technology he found on the ship, The Mandarin fashioned ten rings, each giving him a different power, such as telepathy and the ability to shoot beams of ice, fire and electricity. In other words, he can do everything Iron Man can do, only without a giant suit.

Naturally, The Mandarin has undergone a number of changes over the years as Marvel ditched most of the blatantly offensive remnants of his Yellow Peril inception. They've since emphasized his intelligence and the fact that unlike many supervillains he operates under a strict code of honor, always keeping to his word. He's also died a bunch of times and come back, sometimes with robotic hands or the rings fused to his spine, because, you know, comics.

So there you have it, a quick primer on the villain known as The Mandarin. Now go out there and enjoy yourself some superhero movie fun!
