This week: Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena star as two LAPD partners that unwittingly make themselves targets of a dangerous drug cartel in the gritty, violent police drama "End of Watch."
Also new this week is the controversial Southern-fried drama "The Paperboy" starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey, as well as the raunchy-sweet chick flick "For a Good Time, Call …" featuring a breakout performance by funny lady Ari Graynor. Get More »
It was a photo finish at the box office this weekend and once the dust settled, Jennifer Lawrence's "House at the End of the Street" and Jake Gyllenhaal's "End of Watch" ended in a virtual tie for the top spot, just edging out Clint Eastwood's "Trouble with the Curve."
How close was it? According to Film.com, "House at the End of the Street" and "End of Watch" both earned an estimated $13 million, while "Trouble with the Curve" was right behind with $12.7 million.
For a full rundown of all the box office figures, including figures for "The Master," "Dredd" and returning hits "Finding Nemo 3D" and "Resident Evil: Retribution," head to Film.com.
If we ever had to be arrested, we'd want Jake Gyllenhaal to be the one to slap on the cuffs.
Jake makes law enforcement downright sexy in "End of Watch," the gritty new cop thriller in which the all-grown-up "Donnie Darko" star intimidates criminals with his piercing blue eyes (and sometimes with a gun, too). We'd certainly feel safer in a world where Jake's out there on the streets — serving, protecting and rocking that blue uniform.
Put your hands on your head and gaze upon Gyllenhaal in our Hot People Looking Hot photo gallery. "End of Watch" is now in theaters.
Over the span of her relatively young career, Anna Kendrick's been known as a few things in pigeonhole-happy Hollywood: the musically talented, Tony award nominee who crossed over to movies with "Camp"; the Oscar nominee who held her own against George Clooney in "Up in the Air"; the coolest cast member in the "Twilight" series.
And that's exactly how she likes it.
The funny and charismatic 27-year-old doesn't want to play the same role twice; it's why the Anna Kendrick you see in "End of Watch," where she plays the laid-back girlfriend to Jake Gyllenhaal's cliché-busting, bald-headed LAPD officer, won't seem anything like the Anna Kendrick you saw in last year's "50/50" or next week's "Pitch Perfect."
Kendrick told us all about her new role in "Watch" and how her Oscar nomination for "Air" put her strategy of choosing diverse roles to the test. Get More »

As much as we love all that summer has to offer, fall is where it's at for true cinephiles. The movie lover's season officially kicks off (according to us, anyway) the same day the annual Toronto International Festival launches every year in early September.
As has been the case for several years now, Toronto serves as a platform for studios to launch their Oscar hopefuls and for smaller indies to find a home (and maybe some awards down the line). "The King's Speech," "Slumdog Millionaire," "Precious" and "The Artist" all played at the festival before going on to Oscar glory while films like "Beginners," "Killer Joe" and "Your Sister's Sister," all came into the event without a distributor, and left with one. You'll forget all about Donnie Darko and his invisible rabbit friend when you check out this trailer for Jake Gyllenhaal's new movie "End of Watch." Sporting a bald dome and a buff look, Gyllenhaal is just another cop on a tough beat in Los Angeles with his best friend and partner, played by Michael Pena.
Officers Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Zavala (Pena) are having a normal day just looking for "dope, money, and guns" when they stumble onto a huge amount of gold and jewelry, including what looks like a gold-plated machine gun. Whaaaat?! Get More »
Anna Kendrick's career has been rockin' since 2008's first "Twilight," and the Oscar nominee shows no signs of slowing down.
In between being Bella's BFF Jessica Stanley in the fangy franchise, she's racking up to-die-for roles in films like "Up in The Air," "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," and the upcoming cancer comedy "50/50." She even snagged herself an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actress for role in "Up in The Air." With "Rapture-Palooza" on the way and voice work for "ParaNorman" in the can, Kendrick isn't wasting any time lining up her newest gig.
Right now, it looks like that honor will go to "End of Watch," a drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as two cops who "confront marriage, love, fatherhood and the harsh realities of the Los Angeles streets" together. Get More »
