9 Cool Things We Learned on the 'Beautiful Creatures' Set Visit

Warner Bros.

We, at NextMovie, pride ourselves on being early adopters of YA literature. We were on "Twilight" before K.Stew was ever a noun. We championed "The Hunger Games" before everyone (and their mom) knew it was cool. We're like hipsters, only way dorkier.

So when it was time to head off to Louisiana for a visit to the set of "Beautiful Creatures," we grabbed our dog-eared copy of the book it's based on — the one we read waaaaay before it was a movie — and geeked out on the beautiful creatures that are now bringing "Beautiful Creatures" to the big screen.

So what are the coolest details we learned on the New Orleans movie set? Read on. Get More »

Johnny Depp at the MTV Movie Awards MTV

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

• Well, he's not going to be in Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel," but maybe Johnny Depp will be in Wally Pfister's "Transcendence." Deadline reports that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star is in talks to join the feature directorial debut of Christopher Nolan's go-to cinematographer ... the plot of which is, of course, being kept under wraps.

• You know, Bradley Cooper is just about as perfect for a Cameron Crowe movie as, oh, Emma Stone. The "Hangover" star is set to make his already ultra-busy schedule even busier as he's in talks to join the "Amazing Spider-Man" beauty in Crowe's untitled romantic comedy, which is said to be in the vein of "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous." First Look at 'Beautiful Creatures'

Warner Bros.

Now that Harry Potter has kissed Ginny Weasley for the last time and the Cullen family is preparing to sparkle off into the sunset this November, it might seem that the well has run dry for fans of supernatural romance. But no — we have firsthand proof of life after "Twilight."

A few months ago, we packed up our copy of "Beautiful Creatures" and headed to Louisiana, where the adaptation of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's YA fantasy romance is filming. We got one action-packed day on set, where we watched a couple scenes being filmed — one of them so top-secret we won't even mention it again — and talked to most of the major players in the cast. My Favorite Comedy Movie: Emmy Rossum

"My favorite comedy is 'As Good As It Gets.'

"I love that movie! Jack Nicholson is absolutely perfect in that. He's Melvin! He's perfect! And he and Helen Hunt together, they both nailed it. Not every movie finds that kind of energy. But this one does, and it's so fun to watch.

"But mostly, I love the scene when Jack Nicholson puts the dog in the trash compactor. I just feel so bad for that dog, but I can't help but laugh!

"That comedy is seriously as good as it gets."

Emmy Rossum currently stars in the hit Showtime series "Shameless."
