Questions and Answers from Tribeca: Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts is figuring it out. Julia Roberts' niece, the daughter of actor Eric Roberts, the 22-year-old star of "Adult World" is grappling with living in the world as, well, an adult. When NextMovie caught up with Roberts at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City the day after the film's premiere, the actress was picking at a bunless burger and a heap of fries, bemoaning the blisters her heels had given her the night before. "Someone should do a shoe break-in service where they break in your shoes," she said.
Shoe problems aside, Roberts' career is standing tall: She's graduated from her "Nancy Drew" and "Aquamarine" kiddie film days to solidly received indies like "Adult World" and "It's Kind of a Funny Story," and a memorable supporting role as Ke$ha-like Riley in Rashida Jones' "Celeste and Jesse Forever." Her career is maturing as she does.
In "Adult World," Roberts plays Amy, a would-be poet who literally runs away from home when her parents refuse to continue paying contest entry fees for her amateur verse. She makes rent money at a porn shop (guess what it's called) alongside scruffy manager/cute dude Alex (Roberts' real-life boyfriend, "American Horror Story" star Evan Peters), while pestering an enigmatic has-been poet (a hilariously befuddled John Cusack) to mentor her, hoping the two can reverse their career trajectories and meet in the middle.
In addition to Roberts' million-dollar shoe-softening idea, NextMovie chatted with her about "Adult World," being a terrible roommate and her deep obsession with bagels. Get More »
Emma Roberts Signs On For Pot Trafficking Comedy 'We're the Millers'
"We're the Millers" might just be the little comedy that could. After more than five years in what industry folk like to call "development hell," the flick is finally (almost) in production. And the cast is shaping up pretty nice too, if you ask us. Not that anyone did.
The latest additions to the roster include starlet Emma Roberts and comedy vet Kathryn Hahn, who join Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Ed Helms and Nick Offerman, IndieWire reports.
Roberts will play Julia, a disturbed 20-year-old runaway who poses as the offspring of Sudeikis and Aniston to somehow help with their plot to ferry 1,400 pounds of marijuana from Mexico to the United States. We're not sure exactly how her pretending to be their daughter fits into their master plan, but we're confident it will all be explained in the end. Get More »
'Empire State' Adds A Bunch Of People, Including 'Twilight' Star Nikki Reed
Usually when you're making a big-budget movie, having actors is one of the main requirements. You know, it helps. But even though "Empire State" is set to begin filming in less than a week, until now half the cast was still up in the air.
Well, better late than never: According to Deadline, "The Twilight Saga"'s Nikki Reed will be joining "Empire State" along with fellow newcomers Chris Diamantopoulos ("The Three Stooges"), Michael Angarano ("Red State," "Haywire"), Jerry Ferrara ("Entourage") and Paul Ben-Victor ("In Plain Sight").

Emma Roberts Visits the 'Empire State'
Best known for her work in "Scream 4" and a slew of indie flicks that hit the film festival circuit (most recently "Celeste and Jesse Forever"), Emma Roberts is about to make a leap to the big leagues. The starlet has signed on for Dito Montiel's "Empire State," which already counts Liam Hemsworth and Dwayne Johnson among its cast.
Based on true events dating back to 1982, the story follows two childhood friends (Hemsworth will play one) from Astoria, N.Y., who plot to rob an armored car depository.
According to Variety, Johnson will take on the role of the NYPD detective out to bust them and Roberts will play a waitress who becomes a love interest for Hemsworth's character. Get More »
Emma Roberts & Craig Roberts Investigate a 'Family Secret'
We don't want to get too "Who Do You Think you Are?" on y'all, but according to Deadline, Emma Roberts and "Submarine's" Craig Roberts have both just signed on to the upcoming drama "I Am My Family Secret."
Coincidence?!
Okay, actually, it is a coincidence, because as far as anybody knows, the two young stars aren't actually related (sorry, Hollywood genealogy buffs). But now they're going to be linked in a professional sense at least, as Emma Roberts reunites with her "Lymelife" director Derick Martini for what is described as a film about "two brothers, wildly different, who discover their parents have been hiding a startling and life-altering secret from them for over two decades." Emma Roberts Charms in 'The Girl With The Tramp Stamp Tattoo'
When she played "Nancy Drew" in 2007 we knew that Hollywood royalty Emma Roberts had a knack for solving mysteries. At the time she was 16, and like most famous young ingénues she had the potential to either continue her onscreen sleuthing career or become an "E! True Hollywood Story"-style party girl of the Lindsay Lohan variety.
Now, thanks to the knuckleheads at Funny or Die, Roberts has managed to fulfill both expectations in "The Girl With The Tramp Stamp Tattoo," a hilarious parody of the trailer for this winter's "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." Get More »
Q&A: Emma Roberts & Freddie Highmore Are More Than Just 'Getting By'
When the niece of one of the biggest actresses in the world and the protégé of one of the biggest actors in the world come together, you can expect they'll do more than just get by.
Of course, in "The Art of Getting By" (on DVD and Blu-ray this week), Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore do just that, but it's kind of the point.
Julia Roberts' relative and Johnny Depp's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" co-star play slackers and high school seniors trying to graduate by the skin of their teeth. When loner George meets Sally, he's inspired to broaden his horizons beyond skipping school and drawing all over test papers. He even goes to a party! With people there! Get More »
