There's a certain magical quality to modern day drugs. The tiniest prescribed pill can cure a multitude of medical problems, whilst the tiniest illegally-purchased pill can create the illusion you have cured a multitude of non-medical problems. So it's no wonder Hollywood loves injecting cool ideas about what sorts of human ailments — both physical and spiritual — fictional drugs might be able to treat.

In "Dredd 3D," the latest redux of comic book hero and one-man-justice-system, Judge Dredd, a narcotic named Slo-Mo has hit the streets, allowing its users to experience reality in slow motion (in the future, drug names are very literal). Jennifer Lawrence Tops Box Office Again

It was a photo finish at the box office this weekend and once the dust settled, Jennifer Lawrence's "House at the End of the Street" and Jake Gyllenhaal's "End of Watch" ended in a virtual tie for the top spot, just edging out Clint Eastwood's "Trouble with the Curve."

How close was it? According to, "House at the End of the Street" and "End of Watch" both earned an estimated $13 million, while "Trouble with the Curve" was right behind with $12.7 million.

2012 Preview: The Year in Fanboy, Part 2

Last week, we got out our calendars and red sharpies and made plans for the first half of 2012. We were gonna do the whole year, but then we got hungry, were shocked to discover there were no more Rolos in the house, went out to get Rolos, then bumped into that guy we met at a thing a while back.

Guess we lost track of time.
