Take a Mental Vacation With 4 'Total Recall' Clips

Total Recall
Sony Pictures

22 years ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger took Mars by storm and made human shields seem practical, but now Colin Farrell thinks he can one-up The Governator with a "Total Recall" for today's demanding special effects hound.

Director Len Wiseman of "Underworld" fame lends his eye for sci-fi mayhem — as well as wife Kate Beckinsale — for this new iteration of Douglas Quaid (Farrell) and his quest to figure out whether he's a spy with a memory problem or just a guy on a bad (implanted) acid trip. Jessica Biel and "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston co-star. Get More »

Video Q&A: Colin Farrell on Putting His Privates in Harm's Way

"Total Recall" is Colin Farrell's second movie — the first being "Minority Report" — that is based on the writings of sci-fi author Philip K. Dick.

"The hover cars and the way they travel up buildings is very similar [to 'Minority Report']," says Farrell. "I feel bits of Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis' and 'Blade Runner.'"

There's also some dizzying action in this remake of the 1990 "Total Recall," and Farrell put his privates on the line during an anti-gravity scene that required him to be suspended on wires.

"My balls were getting pinched, I was getting welts on my ass and the blood was rushing to my face because I was hanging upside down for 20 minutes," says Farrell. "You're supposed to look like you have some semblance of control and calm, but you're struggling."

See for yourself if Farrell hides the hurt when "Total Recall" opens in theaters on August 3.

Colin Farrell Gets Disneyfied with 'Saving Mr. Banks'

Getty Images

Colin Farrell is about to get a little more family-friendly.

The "Fright Night" star will be embracing his paternal instincts as he signs on for a rare "dad" role in "Saving Mr. Banks," according to Deadline.

Farrell joins Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in the true behind-the-scenes story of the long, hard road to making "Mary Poppins," in which Walt Disney (Hanks) waged a 14-year courtship to persuade Australian author P.L. Travers (Thompson) to sell him the rights to her story of the beloved nanny. Travers (obviously) eventually gave in but remained prickly about it all the way to the end and apparently despised the film's animated sequences. Get More »

Josh Hutcherson, Beyoncé and More Will Be in 'Epic' 3-D Movie

We know Beyoncé Knowles is the Queen of Pop (and the Queen of Jay-Z's kingdom), but she'll be taking her crown to the screen next May with the arrival of "Epic."

This upcoming animated film is the story of a young woman who finds herself lost in a magic forest. Unfortunately for her, a war is brewing and she's gotta figure out a way to save herself, the world she's stumbled upon and, you know, the folks back home. Of course, she'll need a little help from some new forest friends while she's there to get the job done right.

Bey will lend her golden vocal chords to the character of Queen Tara. It sounds likely that Amanda Seyfried's character Mary Katherine will be our heroine. They'll be joined by Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Steven Tyler and a host of others actors and comedians as the characters our heroine encounters along the way — both goodies and baddies alike. Now is the winter of Colin Farrell.

The "Fright Night" star will turn in his vampire fangs and enter a very different kind of fantastical world if he accepts the lead role in "Winter's Tale," according to Variety.

Farrell is the current frontrunner for the male lead in writer-director Akiva Goldman's adaptation of Mark Helprin's 1983 fantasy novel, a role for which the filmmakers have previously been eyeing the likes of Benjamin Walker, Liam Hemsworth, Luke Evans, Tom Hiddleston, Aaron Johnson and Garrett Hedlund. The 20 Sexiest Men of Summer 2012

Summer isn't just the season for blockbusters. It's also the time of beefcakes. Oh sure, good-looking men abound in movies all year, but there's something about the hottest months that really brings them out, takes off their shirts, and makes them run, leap, and roll in slow motion.

This year seems especially easy on the eyes. We have the usual slate of superheroes (all of whom look fantastic in their capes and codpieces), soldiers and assassins, but with the extra spice of an android, a vampire, a medieval warrior, and a whole stable of male strippers. Any one of those is enough to make the season, but the combination is enough to make you glad theaters are air conditioned.

For now, here's a preview of summer's sexiest men to keep you feeling the heat until May and beyond.
