Max Landis Will Work Writing Powers on 'Chronicle 2'
After all, what's a superhero origin story without a follow-up adventure?
Max Landis has officially signed on to write a sequel to "Chronicle," the low-budget sci-fi action film that's made over $100 million in worldwide box office since its release in early February, according to Deadline.
Landis wrote the original film, which follows three high school friends who gain superpowers after they come in contact with an unidentified object; after initially indulging in tricks and pranks, they soon grapple with the moral responsibilities that come with such abilities and must each ask themselves the ultimate question: Are you going to be a Good Guy or a Bad Guy? 'Chronicle' Writes Success Story At Box Office
Unheralded sci-fi/horror flick "Chronicle" wrote its own success story at the box office this weekend as the story about a group of high school students who suddenly develop superpowers topped the box office with a surprisingly strong $22 million debut according to Hollywood.com.
That was just enough to edge out fellow newcomer "The Woman in Black," which also took in a greater than expected $21 million thanks to a young audience made up mostly of female fans, no doubt due to the presence of "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe.
So how did returning films such as Liam Neeson's "The Grey" and Kate Beckinsale's vampire epic "Underworld: Awakening" fare? For the full box office report, including figures for the pro-whale weepie "Big Miracle," head to Hollywood.com.
Three Teens Go From Geeks to Gods in 4 'Chronicle' Clips
Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan and Alex Russell play a trio of average high schoolers who become teen titans after a close encounter with a mysterious crater in "Chronicle."
They do all the things you'd imagine a bunch of young dudes would do with newly acquired comic book powers, but when one of them starts to turn towards the dark side, things get complicated. At the very least they'll all get a few memorable Facebook profile pics out of it all.
Why 'Chronicle' Is the Coolest Movie of the Year (So Far)
As far as Januarys go, this was a decent one for movies — "The Grey," "Haywire" and "The Innkeepers" have all been solid, but now that February's here, I can report that I've seen the first film of 2012 that hasn't just tickled my nerd fancy, it has held it down and relentlessly assaulted me with an armory of movie feathers. (That sentence makes sense, I swear it.)
(And the film I'm talking about is "Chronicle.") Get More »
GALLERY: 'Friday Night Lights' Stars Ready For Their Close-Up
We have to confess: "Chronicle" inspired us.
Sure, we wish we could fly and move things with our mind, but that's not what we mean. Between Michael B. Jordan's excellent performances in this weekend's sci-fi flick and "Red Tails" and Taylor Kitsch's upcoming turns in "John Carter" and "Battleship," we figured it was time to pay homage to the (incredibly attractive) cast of "Friday Night Lights" as they're about to see their names in lights for real.
And, thus, we were inspired to create this gallery of the "Friday Night Lights" kids in movies, past and future. We urge you to click through with clear eyes and full hearts.
Flying People 'Chronicle'd in New York City
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... a pretty nifty marketing campaign for the new sci-fi film, "Chronicle."
"Chronicle" is about people who suddenly gain powerful superhuman abilities, including the power of flight -- so why not get people buzzing about the movie via actual flying people? Get More »
