Video Q&A: 'The Sapphires' Stars Chris O'Dowd and Jessica Mauboy Sing for Their Supper
They say that anything too stupid to be said should be sung, and we here at NextMovie take maxims like that very seriously. So when it came time to interview Chris O'Dowd and Jessica Mauboy about their upcoming flick "The Sapphires," in which they, respectively, play a band manager and a member of an Aboriginal girl group desperate to make it big in any way possible, we knew that a simple spoken interview was out of the question. Chris O'Dowd Goes Fightin' Irish on Michael Bay
Beware the rage of Irish thespians.
"Bridesmaids" star Chris O'Dowd has some fightin' words for "Transformers" director Michael Bay — and just in time for St. Patrick's Day, according to the Toronto Sun.
Like any good (and temperamental) Irish gentleman, O'Dowd has stepped up to defend the honor of a lady who's apparently been mistreated – in this case, his "Friends With Kids" co-star, Megan Fox. O'Dowd is appalled that Fox has received so much backlash after being fired from the "Transformers" franchise and replaced by Rosie Whiteley-Huntington, the result of a spat between her and Bay (which involved her referring to the director as "Hitler"). What a Gem: Chris O'Dowd Joins 'The Sapphires'
Chris O'Dowd may be best known to audiences as the man whose delightful Irish brogue almost made us forget that there were any other characters in "Bridesmaids," but it seems his career in Hollywood is just getting started.
The actor has just signed on to appear in Australia's Goalpost Pictures' upcoming film "The Sapphires," Screen Daily reports. The movie, inspired by a true story, details the career of 1960s Aboriginal soul singers The Sapphires, who perform for troops in Vietnam during wartime.
O'Dowd will star as the talent scout who discovers the girl group, played by Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy, Miranda Tapsell, and Shari Sebbens. Get More »
Judd Apatow Recruits Up-and-Comers for His Next, 'This Is Forty'
For Judd Apatow, directing is just the fun little thing he does between masterminding the modern age of cinematic comedy.
"This Is Forty," the fourth film by the successful writer/director/producer, will arrive on the tails of his previous flicks "40-Year-Old Virgin," "Knocked Up" and "Funny People," along with producing efforts like "Anchorman," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the recent hit "Bridesmaids."
Quite a resume.
The new movie is a spin-off of the Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann characters from "Knocked Up," following the couple as they move into the golden age of life. Apatow is reaching far and wide for the perfect cast, signing Megan Fox and comic legend Albert Brooks to the picture -- and now The Playlist reports that Chris O'Dowd, Lena Dunham, Charlyne Yi and Wyatt Russell have also joined the movie.
