Robert Redford Is the Boss for 'Captain America: Winter Soldier'

It's a big friggin' deal when The Sundance Kid decides he's gonna star in your movie. The name Robert Redford in and of itself is synonymous with awesome, so the man responsible for such repute is an absolute force of filmmaking who can pretty much do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. So, when he decided to sign on for movie two of the "Captain America" franchise, which was at first — let's face it — but a fragment of Marvel's ultimate "The Avengers" ambitions, we were all like "Whaaaaaaaat?!" With the sequel set to follow Cappy (Chris Evans)'s international tiff with the now-Soviet-friendly Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), how could they possibly make a suitable place for the likes of R.R.? 'Captain America 2' Finds New Direction

You've got to hand it to Marvel: When it comes to selecting directors, they certainly think outside the box. Classic thespian Kenneth Branagh for "Thor?" "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon for "The Avengers?" Jon Favreau, who previously was best known as Vince Vaughn's wingman, for the film that started it all, "Iron Man?" Big gambles and big, big payoffs.

All of which is our way of saying that it shouldn't be a surprise that Deadline is reporting that Marvel has selected the Russo Brothers to helm "Captain America 2."

'Captain America 2' Makes the 4th of April Its New Independence Day

For the past 235 years, the routine has been the same for Americans everywhere: When the calendar hits July 4, it's time to dig your miniature flags out of storage, throw up some red, white and blue bunting and celebrate the good ol' U.S. of A. Yes, when it comes to patriotism, July 4 is where it's at — until 2014, that is.

Get ready for some spring flag waving, because Disney and Marvel Studios announced today that "Captain America 2" is going to hit theaters on April 4, 2014. Sorry, Independence Day. You had a good run.

Of course, just what fans will be seeing on April 4, 2014 is still a bit up in the air; after all, while star Chris Evans is signed up for the sequel, no director has yet been chosen. Get More »
