My Favorite Movie: Steve Carell
"Probably 'Dr. Strangelove' or 'Being There,' Peter Sellers being the common thread there.
"I think 'Being There' was so muted and so... there was a tone that movie struck that I had never seen before in a movie. It was so gentle and kind yet thought provoking. I thought it was very smart and I thought his portrayal of that character was brilliant.
"'Dr. Strangelove,' again, very silly but at the same time incredibly dark subject matter. Again, thought provoking... the things they got away with in that movie were astounding. So indicative of that period in history, too. Something that gives you chills and makes you laugh at the same time is pretty amazing."
Steve Carell can be seen this week counseling Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones in "Hope Springs."
My Favorite Comedy Movie: Penn Badgley
"My favorite comedy of all time? That's easy: 'Being There.' It's not just a comedy. It's a deeply touching drama. It really crosses genres in an amazing way.
"When I first saw it, I was totally amazed. In that movie, Peter Sellers isn't just an actor, he is like... a savant. That role required someone with a special talent and he nailed it. And Shirley MacLaine? Also amazing!
"I just really, really love that movie."
Penn Badgley currently stars as Dan Humphrey in the hit TV show "Gossip Girl," and will next be seen on the big screen in the Sundance thriller "Margin Call."
