The 25 Coolest People in Movies

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling Getty Images

What does it mean to be cool? It's pretty damn subjective. So when compiling our list of the 25 coolest people making movies right now (somebody had to do it, right?), we accounted for various factors.

These are the actors who not only impress us onscreen (though that helps), but convey a certain genuineness off it, be it at awards shows, on TV appearances or during our own personal experiences interviewing them. They can be multi-talents, also excelling at music, art or writing. And they can make a habit of turning up in hilarious viral videos or even at your local karaoke bar.

But most of all, these are the 25 actors we'd really just like to sit down and have a beer with.

Welcome to NextMovie's 1st annual Cool List – and let us know who makes your own list in the comments section below. Get More »

GALLERY: Stars Sing For the 'Pitch Perfect' Premiere

Can you hit a high "C" for "Celebrities"?

Anna Kendrick, Elizabeth Banks, Rebel Wilson and other famous crooners were all in tune on the red carpet in celebration of "Pitch Perfect," a sort of "Bring It On" featuring a cappella performers rather than cheerleaders. We're not sure if anyone broke into spontaneous song at any point during the premiere but we have a feeling a few attendees might've received a request or two.

Check out our collection of pics from the premiere and sing along with "Pitch Perfect" when it hits theaters on Oct. 5.

Q&A: Anna Kendrick on 'End of Watch,' Bald Heads & Scruffy Beards

Anna Kendrick Getty Images

Over the span of her relatively young career, Anna Kendrick's been known as a few things in pigeonhole-happy Hollywood: the musically talented, Tony award nominee who crossed over to movies with "Camp"; the Oscar nominee who held her own against George Clooney in "Up in the Air"; the coolest cast member in the "Twilight" series.

And that's exactly how she likes it.

The funny and charismatic 27-year-old doesn't want to play the same role twice; it's why the Anna Kendrick you see in "End of Watch," where she plays the laid-back girlfriend to Jake Gyllenhaal's cliché-busting, bald-headed LAPD officer, won't seem anything like the Anna Kendrick you saw in last year's "50/50" or next week's "Pitch Perfect."

Kendrick told us all about her new role in "Watch" and how her Oscar nomination for "Air" put her strategy of choosing diverse roles to the test. Get More »

The Top 50 Music Videos Featuring Movie Stars

Kristen Stewart Music Video
MSN
Ever since Michael Jackson and John Landis unleashed "Thriller" in 1983, shaming all that preceded it, the music video has become an art form within itself. It can be a launching pad for your career (Alicia Silverstone), a favor to a boyfriend (Courteney Cox, Evan Rachel Wood), or a way to begin rebuilding a thousand burned bridges (Mickey Rourke).

With the MTV Video Music Awards hitting MTV tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET, we've compiled a list of the 50 best based on a number of factors: creativity of video, quality of actor's performance and, for some, random dancing ability. Our only caveats: no cameos and no soundtracks. The debate begins now. Get More »

August With Anna Kendrick, Sadly Not Robert Pattinson

As summer comes to a close, I am forced to come to terms with the fact that I've had more misses than hits in August. In the fan girl world, you win some, you lose some.

Early in the month, I focused my efforts on the release of "ParaNorman" in hopes of a run-in with one of my favorite actresses, Anna Kendrick. I got the chance to meet Anna for the fifth time at her appearance on "Good Day New York" during her short stay in New York. As always, she was a doll.

The misses came back to back in the form of hot leading men. It started with Robert Pattinson, who was in New York for an entire week on a whirlwind press tour for "Cosmopolis." I put in two days of work trying to meet him, but to no avail. Next up was Jake Gyllenhaal, who is currently doing previews of his American stage debut, "If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet" off Broadway. Jake was a guest on "The Late Show With David Letterman" but, again, it was a bust. Get More »

'The Twilight Saga' Cast Power Rankings

Twilight
Summit

Perhaps the only media types who enjoy speculation more than entertainment writers are sports journalists. They're constantly trying to out-predict their colleagues on which team will win the World Series, where Dwight Howard will be traded, which rookies will become all-stars, etc.

A popular format to grade teams and players on where they are and where they are headed is the Power Rankings. Grantland borrowed this device to recap "Mad Men" episodes, positioning the characters each week in order of how well they handled themselves in the episode. Get More »

Sometimes interviewing the hottest celebs on the planet isn't as easy as it looks. NextMovie editor Kevin Polowy hit the red carpet at Comic-Con 2012 to interview Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Anna Kendrick and Kodi Smit-McPhee about their upcoming movie "ParaNorman."

Unfortunately, it doesn't go so well for Kevin, but luckily Mintz-Plasse was there to put his reporter hat on and save the interview. Has he done this before?

Olivia Wilde and Ron Livingston Make Great 'Drinking Buddies'

Jay and Mark Duplass went from microbudget mumblecore like "The Puffy Chair" to more mainstream fare -albeit still quirky- like "Cyrus" and "Jeff Who Lives At Home."

Now with "Drinking Buddies" it's time for the grand marshal of the mumblecore parade, Joe Swanberg, will have his shot (or shots) at mass appeal, according to Deadline, by adding Olivia Wilde, Ron Livingston and Jake M. Johnson to a cast headlined by the thinking man's hottie crush, Anna Kendrick. Get More »
