If there's one rule governing the animal kingdom, it's this: You do not mess with Mom. Ever. If you come between a mama and her cub, you will lose. They're the most terrifying force in the animal kingdom, and they'll do anything to protect their babies.

Of course, you don't need science to tell you that. You know Mom can always be counted on to swoop in like a cookie-baking Batman, knock out a bully, and take you home for story time. (That reminds us, have you bought her a present yet?)

Movies may not get a lot right (physics, romance, book adaptations), but for the most part, they do right by moms. Especially tough moms. Cinema is packed with gun-toting, take-no-prisoners, willing-to-die mothers, and they're all so inspiring that we hated cutting it off at 9. But we did, and here are the Baddest Muthas in Movies. Add your own at #10.

Beowulf is essentially the first English action story, so it's not surprising that it features a tough mother like all of its descendants do. Sure, she's nameless, but she poses even more of a threat to Beowulf than her ferocious son does. In the original poem, she's all claws and bloodlust; in the 21st century she's been given something even deadlier -- the body and face of Angelina Jolie.

Your first night in a new house is usually full of dilemmas like "Where should we get dinner?" and "Where did I pack my pajamas?" But not for the mom and daughter in "Panic Room." They're burglarized, locked in a single room and facing a diabetic crisis. Luckily, Mama Meg thinks on her feet, and isn't afraid to throw blows, grab a gun or wield a sledgehammer if it means protecting her baby girl.

You might think that after more than three decades of talking about her iconic role of Ellen Ripley in the "Alien" films, Sigourney Weaver would be sick of it all.

But as she revealed in an extensive new interview with Moviefone, Weaver not only isn't tired of Ripley, she's actually hoping to get one last shot at James Cameron's interstellar monsters -- because she's convinced she "could definitely kick that alien's ass again."

And that's not all Weaver had to say about Cameron, "Alien" and "Avatar" when she sat down to discuss the 25th anniversary of "Aliens," still one of the most popular sequels in movie history.

"I love to work with Jim because it's full-tilt; there's no moderate speed, you're always at turbo-charge. You're always doing it together and it's always going to be worth it; 'Avatar' is the same way.

"I don't think for him subtlety is important. It's out there, it's big, it's bold, it's exciting. His characters are very archetypal; he writes these big primary-color characters, and as a director he gives you the action and the world around which to play out these parts in a very bold way."

So does that mean we can expect to see Weaver in the upcoming "Avatar" sequels? Well, maybe.

"Obviously it would be great if Grace could continue in some form or another," Weaver said. "But I think we're not at a point where we can talk publicly about it." And she's even less optimistic about the chances of Ripley making it to the big screen again.

"While I can't speak for them, I think for Fox, once you're sixty, you're not going to be starring in an action movie. I think it's too bad that that's the case. I would have liked to do one last story where we go back to the planet, where Ripley's history is resolved. But I do feel like her story is unfinished.

"I love the way the story has evolved," Weaver continued, "that every few years there's another voyage into that universe with another wonderful young director. And certainly I'm blessed with lots of different wonderful jobs, so I'm not sitting at home ruminating about all of that. If I was really caught up in it, I would find a logical story and try to get them behind it, but she may just be left circling earth."

But despite these disappointments, Weaver is optimistic that the new wave of powerful female directors is changing the way Hollywood looks at women.

"I think everything is going to change, we're going to have a big revolution. I'm sure we're going to see, even in very real films, women being much more physical and just being the kick-ass women that they are."

From her lips to god's ears.

The once hot "Alien" franchise has cooled off a bit in recent years. (It's archenemy, "Predator," meanwhile, keeps chugging along.)

So what better way to give those of us who love our "Aliens" a much-needed treat than to latch on to the current "TRON" fever spurred by the can't-quite-get-here soon-enough release of "TRON: Legacy"?

Ain't It Cool News put a call out for "TRON"-flavored mashups, and far and away the coolest video finds a lit-up Sigourney Weaver doing battle in the classic's climactic showdown (the "Joe vs. the Volcano" and "Big Lebowski" edits are also well worth your time).

With the "Aliens" cut, though, it's like you're seeing the climax of James Cameron's 1986 sequel staged at a Studio 54 after party that has gone horribly wrong. And it's just awesome.
