Kit Harington Inherits Another Throne In 'Arthur & Lancelot'

Casting directors are just full of imagination. For this reason, we get things like Ryan Reynolds and Chris Evans cast as every superhero, or Michelle Rodriguez playing every female soldier who dies in a movie.

A cliché is a cliché for a reason, however, and that's why "Game of Thrones" star Sean Bean will be playing badass knights/kings for the rest of his life ("Lord of the Rings," "Black Death," "Mirror Mirror," etc). He's apparently also passed that Medieval gene off to his co-star on the popular HBO fantasy series, Kit Harington, as the 24-year-old Brit has just been chosen to play King Arthur.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harington will play the once and future King of ancient folklore in "Arthur & Lancelot," Warner Bros. jovial take on Arthurian legend from "Wedding Crashers" director David Dobkin. Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman from AMC’s "The Killing" tested with Harington last month in the role of Lancelot, but has yet to be confirmed.

Previously retold in countless movies including "Excalibur," "First Knight," and the Bruckheimered "King Arthur," this youthful pass at the time-tested story casts Arthur as an "illegitimate son being raised by a humble and poor knight in a village who will grow into an inspiring leader while Lancelot is a rebellious noble who distrusts the established government." This modern take will be mostly sans Guinevere, relegated to a mere cameo so as not to cause any strife between the two boys.

The studio is looking for another hip reinvention ala "Sherlock Holmes," but it sounds a lot like "Arthur Begins." Cameras will roll in March of next year, when we'll also see Harington pop on screen in "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D."

The Hawaiian hunk could live with his shirt off, and we’d be plenty happy. The 32-year-old rising star knows how to rock the leather wristbands, barely-there kilt, and bone necklace that Conan wears in the upcoming reboot of the comic-book-inspired franchise.
