The supporting cast roster for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is really starting to fill out. The latest news parachute to descend upon is this: Bruno Gunn will portray District 2's buff and rather unfriendly he-tribute Brutus.
As a refresher, Brutus is a strong and skillful career tribute who volunteers to step back into the ring for the Third Quarter Quell after it is announced that former victors will fill out the competitor pool for the 75th Annual Hunger Games. He is joined by Enobaria, the other rough and ready District 2 volunteer which has just been cast (Meta Golding will portray the character).
There's a lot for Gunn to work with on this role, since he's not exactly Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence)' type of ally, but he does offer to team up with her after witnessing her mad skills with the bow and arrow. Clearly, Brutus has that self-preservation thing going on. The character also presumably has ties with the District 2 career tributes from the 74th Annual Hunger Games, which Katniss and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) won, so there may be some underlying anger coming through from that.
"Magic Mike" star Kevin Nash was originally rumored for a part in "Catching Fire," and it was presumed he might be Brutus.
Gunn joins a boatload of newcomers to "The Hunger Games" franchise for movie two, including Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, Jena Malone as Johanna Mason, Amanda Plummer as Wiress, Lynn Cohen as Mags, and Meta Golding as Enobaria. Rumor has it, Sam Claflin will portray the most-anticipated role of "Catching Fire," Finnick Odair, and Patrick St. Espirit is rumored for the part of Thread.
What do you think of Bruno Gunn as Brutus? Does he fit the bill for the role?
