Good Boy! 'The Artist' Star Uggie Wins Big at the Golden Collar Awards

You may not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but you can certainly give him a few awards for them.

Last night, while dogs around the country were begging for Milk Bones, an elite group, including Uggie, the furry star of "The Artist," were competing for Golden Collar Awards for the most creative canines in the entertainment industry.

The awards were founded in late 2011 by Dog News Daily, a marketing and digital media company, who created the Golden Collars after hearing the buzz surrounding Uggie's performance, and it looks like the hype paid off.

The 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier was nominated for the Best Dog in a Theatrical Film award for his work in both "Water for Elephants" and "The Artist," bringing home the night's big award for the latter.

Other winners included Brigitte, who plays Jay and Gloria's lovably dopey dog, Stella, on "Modern Family," and Hercules from "Pit Boss," who tied with Lisa Vanderpump's little lothario, Giggy, for Best Dog in a Reality Television Series.

While most recipients and their human counterparts seemed pleased by the results, one Hollywood bigwig was mad as hell and ready to fight about it.

The Wrap reports that Martin Scorcese voiced his support for Blackie, the dog from "Hugo," over the evening's winners.

"Uggie plays a nice little mascot who does tricks and saves his master's life in one of the films, while Blackie gives an uncompromising performance as a ferocious guard dog who terrorizes children," lamented the director. "We have learned to accept the human antihero, but when it comes to dogs, I guess we still have a long way to go."

Check out Uggie being the hit of the Golden Globes Parties.
