UPDATE: "Twilight" studio Summit Entertainment at Lionsgate has issued a statement regarding the death of Gisela G., promising that she will indeed be remembered during the "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

"Lionsgate, Summit and the entire 'Twilight' community are saddened by the death of a Comic-Con fan today due to a traffic accident during the hours leading up to this year's convention in San Diego. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim's family and friends. She will be respectfully remembered this Thursday in Hall H."

Several "Twilight" cast members have also tweeted their respects for their fallen fan. Erik Odom wrote, "This is awful. My heart goes out to her family." Nikki Reed added, "This is horrible. So sad. I'm speechless." Ashley Greene and several other co-stars also chimed in with their condolences.

Tragedy struck San Diego Comic-Con today; according to Examiner, a "Twilight" fan waiting in line for the convention's Thursday opening was hit by a car and killed.

Details are still unclear, but early reports suggest the 53-year-old woman identified by the fan community as Gisella was crossing Harbor Drive outside the convention center when she tripped and was hit by a car. The driver stayed on the scene and an ambulance was immediately summoned, but the fan never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital due to severe head trauma.

In what has become an annual tradition, fans of "The Twilight Saga" had already begun camping out at the site of this year's Comic-Con in hopes of getting one of the highly coveted seats to Lionsgate's "Twilight" seminar. With this year being the franchise's final appearance at Comic-Con, fans are especially eager to get a ticket to Hall H to say farewell to their heroes while also getting an advance peek at "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2."

According to U-T San Diego, Harbor Drive was shut down for an extended period while authorities investigated the incident. No statement has yet been released by either Comic-Con or Lionsgate.

Our thoughts are with Gisella's family and friends.
